⁷ When they persisted in questioning him, he straightened up and told them, “Let the person among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”

⁶ Based on the testimony of two or three witnesses, they must surely die. But they are not to die based on the testimony of one person. ⁷ Let the witnesses be the first to begin executing them, then the rest of the people shall follow. By doing this you will purge evil from among you.”

¹⁶ As for the wicked, God says, “How dare you recite my statutes or speak about my covenant with your lips! ¹⁷ You hate instruction and toss my words behind you. ¹⁸ When you see a thief, you befriend him, and you keep company with adulterers. ¹⁹ You give your mouth free reign for evil, and your tongue devises deceit. ²⁰ You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother’s son.

¹⁸ Some speak rashly like the cutting of a sword, but what the wise say promotes healing.

⁴ Don’t answer a fool according to his foolishness, or you will be just like him. ⁵ Answer a fool according to his foolishness, or he will think himself to be wise.

²⁹ “My message is like fire or like a hammer that shatters rock, is it not?” declares the LORD.

¹ Judging Others
“Stop judging, so that you won’t be judged, ² because the way that you judge others will be the way that you will be judged, and you will be evaluated by the standard with which you evaluate others.
³ “Why do you see the speck in your brother’s eye but fail to notice the beam in your own eye? ⁴ Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when the beam is in your own eye? ⁵ You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you will see clearly enough to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

²⁵ “How terrible it will be for you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but on the inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. ²⁶ You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup, so that its outside may also be clean.
²⁷ “How terrible it will be for you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs that look beautiful on the outside but inside are full of dead people’s bones and every kind of impurity. ²⁸ In the same way, on the outside you look righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

⁴⁶ The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like that!”

¹ God will Judge EveryoneTherefore, you have no excuse—every one of you who judges. For when you pass judgment on another person, you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, practice the very same things. ² Now we know that God’s judgment against those who act like this is based on truth. ³ So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on those who practice these things and then do them yourself, do you think you will escape God’s judgment?

²¹ as you teach others, do you fail to teach yourself? As you preach against stealing, do you steal? ²² As you forbid adultery, do you commit adultery? As you abhor idols, do you rob temples? ²³ As you boast about the Law, do you dishonor God by breaking the Law? ²⁴ As it is written, “God’s name is being blasphemed among the gentiles because of you.”
²⁵ For circumcision is valuable if you observe the Law, but if you break the Law, your having been circumcised has no more value than if you were uncircumcised.

²⁴ But if everyone is prophesying, when an unbeliever or an uneducated person comes in he will be convicted and examined by everything that’s happening. ²⁵ His secret, inner heart will become known, and so he will bow down to the ground and worship God, declaring, “God is truly among you!”

⁶ Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer everyone.

¹² For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul and spirit, joints and marrow, as it judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart. ¹³ No creature can hide from him, but everyone is exposed and helpless before the eyes of the one to whom we must give a word of explanation.

¹⁶ In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp, two-edged sword. His face was like the sun when it shines with full force.

¹⁶ So repent. If you don’t, I will come to you quickly and wage war against them with the sword of my mouth.

¹⁵ A sharp sword comes out of his mouth to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod and tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.
