³⁴ But take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts should be overloaded with surfeiting and drunkenness, and the anxious cares of life, and that day should come upon you unawares. ³⁵ For as a snare shall it come upon all that are settled on the face of the whole earth.

²² And the populace shouted, It is the voice of a god, and not a man. ²³ But instantly the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not the glory to God: and being devoured with worms, he expired.

⁹ who shall receive punishment, even eternal perdition, from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power:

³ how shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation, which, commencing at the beginning to be spoken by the Lord, was confirmed unto us by those who had heard him;

²³ and to the general assembly and church of the first-born registered in the heavens, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of just men perfected,

⁴ For if God spared not the angels when they sinned, but casting them bound in chains of darkness into hell, delivered them to be kept fast until the judgment;

⁷ As much as she hath glorified herself, and rioted in luxury, so much torment and sorrow give her: because she hath said in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. ⁸ Therefore in one hour shall all her plagues come, death, and mourning, and famine: and she shall be consumed with fire; because mighty is the Lord God, who judgeth her.
