¹³ This is why I speak to them in figures, because though they look they do not see, and though they listen they do not hear or understand.

¹⁶ But blessed are your eyes, for they do see, and your ears, for they do hear.

¹⁷ And he noticed it and said to them, "Why do you discuss your being without bread? Do you not yet see nor understand? Are your minds so dull? ¹⁸ When you have eyes can you not see, and when you have ears can you not hear? Do you not remember

¹⁹ And the basis of the judgment is this, that the light has come into the world, and yet, because their actions were wicked, men have loved the darkness more than the light. ²⁰ For everyone who does wrong hates the light and will not come to it, for fear his actions will be exposed.

³⁹ And Jesus said, "I have come into this world to judge men, that those who cannot see may see, and that those who can see may become blind." ⁴⁰ Some Pharisees who were present heard this, and they said to him, "Then are we blind too?" ⁴¹ Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would be guilty of no sin, but as it is, you say 'We can see'; so your sin continues.

³ If the meaning of my preaching of the good news is veiled at all, it is so only in the case of those who are on the way to destruction. ⁴ In their case, the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep the light of the good news of the glorious Christ, the likeness of God, from dawning upon them.
