But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!"

⁵ And he looked around at them with anger, hurt by their obstinacy, and he said to the man, "Hold out your hand!" And he held it out, and his hand was cured.

¹⁸ And he said to them, "Have not even you any understanding then? Do you not see that nothing that goes into a man from outside can pollute him,

¹⁷ And he noticed it and said to them, "Why do you discuss your being without bread? Do you not yet see nor understand? Are your minds so dull? ¹⁸ When you have eyes can you not see, and when you have ears can you not hear? Do you not remember ¹⁹ how many baskets of pieces you picked up when I broke the five loaves in pieces for those five thousand men?" They said to him, "Twelve." ²⁰ "When I broke the seven loaves in pieces for the four thousand, how many baskets of pieces did you pick up?" They said to him, "Seven." ²¹ He said to them, "Do you not understand yet?"

¹⁴ Still later he appeared to the Eleven themselves when they were at table, and reproached them for their obstinacy and want of faith, because they had not believed those who had seen him after he had been raised from the dead.

²⁵ Then he said to them, "How foolish you are and how slow to believe all that the prophets have said!

⁷ What follows? Israel failed to get what it sought, but those whom God selected got it.
