1 but on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking spices they had prepared.
2 But they found the stone rolled back from the tomb,
3 and when they went inside they could not find the body.
4 They were in great perplexity over this, when suddenly two men in dazzling clothing stood beside them.
5 The women were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look among the dead for him who is alive?
6 Remember what he told you while he was still in Galilee,

9 and they went back from the tomb and told all this to the eleven and all the rest.

13 That same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem,
14 and they were talking together about all these things that had happened.
15 And as they were talking and discussing them, Jesus himself came up and went with them,
16 but they were prevented from recognizing him.
17 And he said to them, "What is all this that you are discussing with each other on your way?" They stopped sadly,
18 and one of them named Cleopas said to him, "Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know what has happened there lately?"
19 And he said, "What is it?" They said to him, "About Jesus of Nazareth, who in the eyes of God and of all the people was a prophet mighty in deed and word,
20 and how the high priests and our leading men gave him up to be sentenced to death, and had him crucified.
21 But we were hoping that he was to be the deliverer of Israel. Why, besides all this, it is three days since it happened.
22 But some women of our number have astounded us. They went to the tomb early this morning
23 and could not find his body, but came back and said that they had actually seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive.
24 Then some of our party went to the tomb and found things just as the women had said, but they did not see him."
25 Then he said to them, "How foolish you are and how slow to believe all that the prophets have said!
26 Did not the Christ have to suffer thus before entering upon his glory?"
27 And he began with Moses and all the prophets and explained to them the passages all through the Scriptures that referred to himself.
28 When they reached the village to which they were going, he acted as though he were going on,
29 but they urged him not to, and said, "Stay with us, for it is getting toward evening, and the day is nearly over." So he went in to stay with them.
30 And when he took his place with them at table, he took the bread and blessed it and broke it in pieces and handed it to them.
31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew him, and he vanished from them.
32 And they said to each other, "Did not our hearts glow when he was talking to us on the road, and was explaining the Scriptures to us?"
33 And they got up immediately and went back to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and their party all together,
34 and learned from them that the Master had really risen and had been seen by Simon.
35 And they told what had happened on the road, and how they had known him when he broke the bread in pieces.
36 While they were still talking of these things, he himself stood among them.
37 They were startled and panic-stricken, and thought they saw a ghost.
38 But he said to them, "Why are you so disturbed, and why do doubts arise in your minds?
39 Look at my hands and feet, for it is I myself! Feel of me and see, for a ghost has not flesh and bones, as you see I have."

41 But they could not yet believe it for sheer joy and they were amazed. And he said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?"
42 And they gave him a piece of broiled fish,
43 and he took it and ate it before their eyes.
44 Then he said to them, "This is what I told you when I was still with you—that everything that is written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must come true."
45 Then he opened their minds to the understanding of the Scriptures,
46 and said to them, "The Scriptures said that Christ should suffer as he has done, and rise from the dead on the third day,
47 and that repentance leading to the forgiveness of sins should be preached to all the heathen in his name.
48 You are to be witnesses to all this, beginning at Jerusalem.
49 And I will send down upon you what my Father has promised. Wait here in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."
50 And he led them out as far as Bethany. Then he lifted up his hands and blessed them.
51 And as he was blessing them, he parted from them.
52 And they went back with great joy to Jerusalem,
53 and were constantly in the Temple, blessing God.
John 20:1-21
1 On the day after the Sabbath, very early in the morning while it was still dark, Mary of Magdala went to the tomb, and she saw that the stone had been removed from it.
2 So she ran away and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple who was dear to Jesus, and said to them, "They have taken the Master out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have put him."
3 So Peter and the other disciple went out of the city and started for the tomb.
4 And they both ran, and the other disciple ran faster than Peter and got to the tomb first.
5 And he stooped down and saw the bandages lying on the ground, but he did not go in.
6 Then Simon Peter came up behind him, and he went inside the tomb, and saw the bandages lying on the ground,
7 and the handkerchief that had been over Jesus' face not on the ground with the bandages, but folded up by itself.
8 Then the other disciple who had reached the tomb first went inside too, and saw and was convinced.
9 For they did not yet understand the statement of Scripture that he must rise from the dead.
10 So the disciples went home again.
11 But Mary stood just outside the tomb, weeping. And as she wept she looked down into the tomb,
12 and saw two angels in white sitting where Jesus' body had been, one at his head and one at his feet.
13 And they said to her, "Why are you weeping?" She said to them, "They have taken my Master away, and I do not know where they have put him."
14 As she said this she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was he.
15 Jesus said to her, "Why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?" She, supposing that he was the gardener, said to him, "If it was you, sir, that carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will take him away."
16 "Mary!" said Jesus. She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbouni!" which means Master.
17 Jesus said to her, "You must not cling to me, for I have not yet gone up to my Father, but go to my brothers and say to them that I am going up to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God."
18 Mary of Magdala went and declared to the disciples, "I have seen the Master!" and she told them that he had said this to her.
19 When it was evening on that first day after the Sabbath, and the doors of the house where the disciples met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came in and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you!"
20 Then he showed them his hands and his side, and the disciples were full of joy at seeing the Master.
21 Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you! Just as my Father sent me forth so I now send you."

26 A week after, the disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came in and stood among them, and said, "Peace be with you!"
