²⁵ And He said to them, The kings of the Gentiles domineer over them; and those exercising authority over them are called Benefactors. ²⁶ But you are not thus: but let the greater among you be as the younger; and the leader as the waiter. ²⁷ For which is the greater, he that sitteth at the table, or the waiter? is not the one sitting? but I am in the midst of you as the waiter.

¹² Then when He washed their feet, and took His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, Do you understand what I have done to you? ¹³ You call me Master and Lord, and you speak beautifully; for I am. ¹⁴ If then I, your Lord and Master, washed your feet, you ought also to wash the feet of one another. ¹⁵ For I have given unto you an example, that you may also do as I have done to you. ¹⁶ Truly, truly, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; nor the apostle greater than him that sent him. ¹⁷ If you know these things, happy are ye if you may do them.
