²⁶ But what went you out to see? a prophet? Yea, and I say unto you even more than a prophet.

⁹ But what went you out to see? a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet: ¹⁰ for this is he, concerning whom it has been written, Behold, I send my messenger before my face, who will prepare thy way before thee. ¹¹ Truly I say unto you, Among those having been born of women there has not risen a greater than John the Baptist: nevertheless the least in the kingdom of the heavens is greater than he. ¹² From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of the heavens suffers violence, and the violent are taking it by force. ¹³ For all the prophets and the law prophesied till John. ¹⁴ And if you wish to receive it, he is Elijah, who is to come.

⁷⁶ And thou, little child, shall be called a prophet of the Highest; for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways,

¹⁶ The law and the prophets were until John: from that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every one presses into it.

⁶ And if we may say, From men; all the people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.

³⁵ He was a bright and shining light: and you were willing to rejoice for an hour in that light.
