³ I wil set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the worke of them that fall away: it shall not cleaue vnto me.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not couet thy neighbours house, neither shalt thou couet thy neighbours wife, nor his man seruant, nor his mayde, nor his oxe, nor his asse, neyther any thing that is thy neighbours.

⁸ They are soone turned out of the way, which I commanded them: for they haue made them a molten calfe and haue worshipped it, and haue offered thereto, saying, These be thy gods, O Israel, which haue brought thee out of the lande of Egypt.

¹⁷ And there shall cleaue nothing of ye damned thing to thine hand, that the Lord may turne from the fiercenes of his wrath, and shewe thee mercie, and haue compassion on thee and multiplie thee, as he hath sworne vnto thy fathers:

⁹ Beware that there be not a wicked thought in thine heart, to say, The seuenth yeere, the yeere of freedome is at hand: therefore it grieueth thee to looke on thy poore brother, and thou giuest him nought, and he crie vnto the Lord against thee, so that sinne be in thee:

⁶ Be ye therefore of a valiant courage, to obserue and doe all that is written in the booke of the Lawe of Moses, that ye turne not therefrom to the right hand nor to the left,

²⁰ And Samuel said vnto the people, Feare not. (ye haue indeede done all this wickednesse, yet depart not from following the Lord, but serue the Lord with all your heart, ²¹ Neither turne yee backe: for that shoulde be after vaine things which cannot profite you, nor deliuer you, for they are but vanitie)

¹¹ It repenteth me that I haue made Saul King: for he is turned from me, and hath not performed my commandements. And Samuel was mooued, and cryed vnto the Lord all night.

² And when it was euening tide, Dauid arose out of his bed, and walked vpon the roofe of the Kings palace: and from the roofe he sawe a woman washing her selfe: and the woman was very beautifull to looke vpon. ³ And Dauid sent and inquired what woman it was: and one sayde, Is not this Bath-sheba the daughter of Eliam, wife to Vriah the Hittite?

² And Ahab spake vnto Naboth, saying, Giue me thy vineyarde, that I may make mee a garden of herbes thereof, because it is neere by mine house: and I will giue thee for it a better vineyarde then it is: or if it please thee, I will giue thee the worth of it in money. ³ And Naboth said to Ahab, The Lord keepe me from giuing the inheritance of my father vnto thee. ⁴ Then Ahab came into his house heauie and in displeasure, because of the word which Naboth the Izreelite had spoken vnto him. for hee had sayde, I will not giue thee the inheritance of my fathers, and he lay vpon his bed, and turned his face and would eate no bread. ⁵ Then Iezebel his wife came to him and said vnto him, Why is thy spirit so sad that thou eatest no bread? ⁶ And he said vnto her, Because I spake vnto Naboth the Izreelite, and sayd vnto him, Giue me thy vineyard for money, or if it please thee, I will giue thee another vineyard for it: but he answered, I wil not giue thee my vineyarde. ⁷ Then Iezebel his wife sayde vnto him, Doest thou nowe gouerne the kingdome of Israel? vp, eate bread, and be of good cheere, I will giue thee the vineyard of Naboth the Izreelite. ⁸ So she wrote letters in Ahabs name, and sealed them with his seale, and sent the letters vnto the Elders, and to the nobles that were in his citie dwelling with Naboth. ⁹ And shee wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaime a fast, and set Naboth among the chiefe of the people, ¹⁰ And set two wicked men before him, and let them witnesse against him, saying, Thou diddest blaspheme God and the King: then cary him out, and stone him that he may dye. ¹¹ And the men of his citie, euen the Elders and gouernours, which dwelt in his citie, did as Iezebel had sent vnto them: as it was written in the letters, which she had sent vnto them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth among the chiefe of the people, ¹³ And there came two wicked men, and sate before him: and the wicked men witnessed against Naboth in the presence of the people saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the King. Then they caried him away out of the citie, and stoned him with stones, that he dyed. ¹⁴ Then they sent to Iezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned and is dead. ¹⁵ And when Iezebel heard that Naboth was stoned and was dead, Iezebel sayd to Ahab, Vp, and take possession of the vineyarde of Naboth the Izreelite, which he refused to giue thee for money: for Naboth is not aliue, but is dead. ¹⁶ And when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he rose to go downe to the vineyard of Naboth the Izreelite, to take possession of it. ¹⁷ And the word of the Lord came vnto Eliiah the Tishbite, saying, ¹⁸ Arise, goe downe to meete Ahab King of Israel, which is in Samaria. loe, he is in the vineyarde of Naboth, whither he is gone downe to take possession of it. ¹⁹ Therefore shalt thou say vnto him, Thus sayth the Lord, Hast thou killed, and also gotten possession? And thou shalt speake vnto him, saying, Thus sayth the Lord, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, shall dogs licke euen thy blood also. ²⁰ And Ahab sayd to Eliiah, Hast thou found mee, O mine enemie? And he answered, I haue found thee: for thou hast solde thy selfe to worke wickednes in the sight of the Lord. ²¹ Beholde, I will bring euill vpon thee, and wil take away thy posteritie, and wil cut off from Ahab him that pisseth against the wall, as well him that is shut vp, as him that is left in Israel, ²² And I wil make thine house like the house of Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the sonne of Ahiiah, for the prouocation wherewith thou hast prouoked, and made Israel to sinne. ²³ And also of Iezebel spake the Lord, saying, The dogs shall eate Iezebel, by the wall of Izreel. ²⁴ The dogs shall eate him of Ahabs stocke, that dyeth in the citie: and him that dyeth in the fieldes, shall the foules of the ayre eate. ²⁵ (But there was none like Ahab, who did fell him selfe, to worke wickednesse in the sight of the Lord: whom Iezebel his wife prouoked. ²⁶ For he did exceeding abominably in following idoles, according to all that the Amorites did, whom the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.) ²⁷ Nowe when Ahab heard those wordes, he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth vpon him and fasted, and lay in sackecloth and went softely. ²⁸ And the worde of the Lord came to Eliiah the Tishbite, saying, ²⁹ Seest thou how Ahab is humbled before me? because he submitteth himselfe before me, I will not bring that euill in his dayes, but in his sonnes dayes wil I bring euill vpon his house.

³ All are gone out of the way: they are all corrupt: there is none that doeth good, no not one.

²⁰ The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousnes: according to the purenes of mine hands he recompensed me: ²¹ Because I kept the wayes of the Lord, and did not wickedly against my God. ²² For all his Lawes were before mee, and I did not cast away his commandements from mee. ²³ I was vpright also with him, and haue kept me from my wickednes.

⁴ I haue not hanted with vaine persons, neither kept companie with the dissemblers. ⁵ I haue hated the assemblie of the euill, and haue not companied with the wicked.

³ The wordes of his mouth are iniquitie and deceit: hee hath left off to vnderstand and to doe good.

¹ To the excellent musician Ieduthun. I thought, I will take heede to my wayes, that I sinne not with my tongue: I will keepe my mouth brideled, while the wicked is in my sight.

⁴ Blessed is the man that maketh the Lord his trust, and regardeth not the proude, nor such as turne aside to lyes.

⁴¹ Yea, they returned, and tempted God, and limited the Holie one of Israel.

⁵⁷ But turned backe and delt falsely like their fathers: they turned like a deceitfull bowe.

¹⁰ Ye that loue the Lord, hate euill: he preserueth the soules of his Saints: hee will deliuer them from the hand of the wicked.

³⁷ Turne away mine eies from regarding vanitie, and quicken me in thy way.

¹¹³ SAMECH. I hate vaine inuentions: but thy Lawe doe I loue.

⁵ But these that turne aside by their crooked wayes, them shall the Lord leade with the workers of iniquitie: but peace shalbe vpon Israel.

²⁵ Desire not her beautie in thine heart, neither let her take thee with her eye lids.

³¹ Looke not thou vpon the wine, when it is red, and when it sheweth his colour in the cup, or goeth downe pleasantly. ³² In the ende thereof it will bite like a serpent, and hurt like a cockatrise. ³³ Thine eyes shall looke vpon strange women, and thine heart shall speake lewde things. ³⁴ And thou shalt bee as one that sleepeth in the middes of the sea, and as hee that sleepeth in the toppe of the maste. ³⁵ They haue stricken mee, shalt thou say, but I was not sicke: they haue beaten mee, but I knew not, when I awoke: therefore will I seeke it yet still.

⁹ The sight of ye eye is better then to walke in ye lustes: this also is vanitie, and vexation of spirit.

¹¹ Depart out of the way: go aside out of the path: cause the holy one of Israel to cease from vs.

¹⁵ Hee that walketh in iustice, and speaketh righteous things, refusing gaine of oppression, shaking his handes from taking of gifts, stopping his eares from hearing of blood, and shutting his eyes from seeing euill.

¹⁷ But thine eyes and thine heart are but only for thy couetousnesse, and for to sheade innocent blood, and for oppression, and for destruction, euen to doe this.

⁶ For they haue made ready their heart like an ouen whiles they lie in waite: their baker sleepeth all the night: in the morning it burneth as a flame of fire. ⁷ They are all hote as an ouen, and haue deuoured their iudges: all their Kings are fallen: there is none among them that calleth vnto me.

² And they couet fields, and take them by violence, and houses, and take them away: so they oppresse a man and his house, euen man and his heritage.

⁵ And them that worship the hoste of heauen vpon the house tops, and them that worship and sweare by the Lord, and sweare by Malcham, ⁶ And them that are turned backe from the Lord, and those that haue not sought the Lord, nor inquired for him.

²⁸ But I say vnto you, that whosoeuer looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath committed adulterie with her already in his heart.

⁹ Let loue be without dissimulation. Abhorre that which is euill, and cleaue vnto that which is good.

⁹ But now seeing ye knowe God, yea, rather are knowen of God, howe turne ye againe vnto impotent and beggerly rudiments, whereunto as from the beginning ye wil be in bondage againe?

³⁹ But we are not they which withdrawe our selues vnto perdition, but follow faith vnto the conseruation of the soule.

¹³ Let no man say when hee is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God can not bee tempted with euill, neither tempteth he any man. ¹⁴ But euery man is tempted, when hee is drawen away by his owne concupiscence, and is entised. ¹⁵ Then when lust hath conceiued, it bringeth foorth sinne, and sinne when it is finished, bringeth foorth death.

²¹ For it had bene better for them, not to haue acknowledged the way of righteousnes, then after they haue acknowledged it, to turne from the holy commandement giuen vnto them.

¹⁹ They went out from vs, but they were not of vs: for if they had bene of vs, they should haue continued with vs. But this cometh to passe, that it might appeare, that they are not all of vs.
