³ Therefore nowe O Lord, take, I beseech thee, my life from me: for it is better for me to die then to liue.

¹⁵ Therefore if thou deale thus with mee, I pray thee, if I haue founde fauour in thy sight, kill me, that I behold not my miserie.

³ And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God we had perished, when our brethren died before the Lord.

⁴ But he went a dayes iourney into the wildernesse, and came and sate downe vnder a iuniper tree, and desired that he might die, and sayde, It is now ynough: O Lord, take my soule, for I am no better then my fathers.

²⁰ Wherefore is the light giuen to him that is in miserie? and life vnto them that haue heauie hearts? ²¹ Which long for death, and if it come not, they would euen search it more then treasures:

⁸ Oh that I might haue my desire, and that God would grant me the thing that I long for! ⁹ That is, that God would destroy me: that he would let his hand go, and cut me off.

¹⁵ Therefore my soule chuseth rather to be strangled and to die, then to be in my bones. ¹⁶ I abhorre it, I shall not liue alway: spare me then, for my dayes are but vanitie.

¹ Surely there be many things that increase vanitie: and what auaileth it man?

¹⁴ Cursed be the day wherein I was borne: and let not the day wherein my mother bare me, be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed be the man, that shewed my father, saying, A man child is borne vnto thee, and comforted him. ¹⁶ And let that man be as the cities, which the Lord hath ouerturned and repented not: and let him heare the cry in the morning, and the showting at noone tide, ¹⁷ Because he hath not slaine me, euen from the wombe, or that my mother might haue bene my graue, or her wobe a perpetual conception. ¹⁸ How is it, that I came forth of the wombe, to see labour and sorowe, that my dayes shoulde be consumed with shame?

⁸ And when the sunne did arise, God prepared also a feruent East winde: and the sunne beat vpon the head of Ionah, that he fainted, and wished in his heart to die, and said, It is better for me to dye, then to liue.

¹⁵ But I haue vsed none of these things: neither wrote I these things, that it should be so done vnto me: for it were better for me to die, then that any man should make my reioycing vaine.

²¹ For Christ is to me both in life, and in death aduantage. ²² And whether to liue in the flesh were profitable for me, and what to chuse I knowe not. ²³ For I am distressed betweene both, desiring to be loosed and to be with Christ, which is best of all. ²⁴ Neuerthelesse, to abide in the flesh, is more needefull for you. ²⁵ And this am I sure of, that I shall abide, and with you all continue, for your furtherance and ioy of your faith,
