²⁶ If any man amog you seeme religious, and refraineth not his tongue, but deceiueth his owne heart, this mans religion is vaine.

¹⁶ But beware lest your heart deceiue you, and lest yee turne aside, and serue other gods, and worship them,

⁹ Be ye not like an horse, or like a mule, which vnderstand not: whose mouthes thou doest binde with bit and bridle, least they come neere thee.

¹³ Keepe thy tongue from euill, and thy lips, that they speake no guile.

¹ To the excellent musician Ieduthun. I thought, I will take heede to my wayes, that I sinne not with my tongue: I will keepe my mouth brideled, while the wicked is in my sight. ² I was dumme and spake nothing: I kept silece euen from good, and my sorow was more stirred.

³ Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, and keepe the doore of my lips.

¹⁹ In many wordes there cannot want iniquitie: but he that refrayneth his lippes, is wise.

³¹ The mouth of the iust shall be fruitfull in wisdome: but the tongue of the froward shall be cut out.

² A man shall eate good things by the fruite of his mouth: but the soule of the trespassers shall suffer violence. ³ Hee that keepeth his mouth, keepeth his life: but he that openeth his lips, destruction shall be to him.

¹² There is a way that seemeth right to a man: but the issues thereof are the wayes of death.

² The tongue of the wise vseth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fooles babbleth out foolishnesse.

¹⁰ A diuine sentence shalbe in the lips of the King: his mouth shall not transgresse in iudgement.

²⁵ There is a way that seemeth right vnto man: but the issue thereof are the wayes of death.

¹ Better is the poore that walketh in his vprightnes, then he that abuseth his lips, and is a foole.

²⁶ He coueteth euermore greedily, but the righteous giueth and spareth not.

¹³ Bring no more oblations, in vaine: incense is an abomination vnto me: I can not suffer your newe moones, nor Sabbaths, nor solemne dayes (it is iniquitie) nor solemne assemblies.

²⁰ He feedeth of ashes: a seduced heart hath deceiued him, that he cannot deliuer his soule, nor say, Is there not a lye in my right hand?

¹⁴ Ye haue saide, It is in vaine to serue God: and what profite is it that we haue kept his commandement, and that we walked humbly before the Lord of hostes?

⁹ But in vaine they worship me, teaching for doctrines, mens precepts.

⁷ But they worship me in vaine, teaching for doctrines the commandements of men.

¹⁸ Take heede therefore how ye heare: for whosoeuer hath, to him shall be giuen: and whosoeuer hath not, from him shalbe taken euen that which it seemeth that he hath.

¹⁸ Let no man deceiue himselfe: If any man among you seeme to be wise in this world, let him be a foole, that he may be wise.

² And whereby ye are saued, if ye keepe in memorie, after what maner I preached it vnto you, except ye haue beleeued in vaine.

¹⁵ And we are found also false witnesses of God: for we haue testified of God, that he hath raised vp Christ: whome he hath not raised vp, if so be the dead be not raised.

⁶ But by them which seemed to be great, I was not taught (whatsoeuer they were in time passed, I am nothing the better: God accepteth no mans person) for they that are the chiefe, did adde nothing to me aboue that I had.

⁹ And when Iames, and Cephas, and Iohn, knew of the grace that was giuen vnto me, which are counted to be pillars, they gaue to me and to Barnabas the right hands of fellowship, that we should preach vnto the Gentiles, and they vnto the Circumcision,

⁴ Haue ye suffered so many things in vaine? if so be it be euen in vaine.

³ For if any man seeme to himselfe, that he is somewhat, when he is nothing, hee deceiueth himselfe in his imagination.

²⁹ Let no corrupt comunication proceed out of your mouths: but that which is good, to ye vse of edifying, that it may minister grace vnto the hearers.

⁴ Neither filthinesse, neither foolish talking, neither iesting, which are things not comely, but rather giuing of thankes.

⁶ Let your speach be gracious alwayes, and powdred with salt, that ye may know how to answere euery man.

¹⁹ Wherefore my deare brethren, let euery man be swift to heare, slowe to speake, and slowe to wrath.

²² And be ye doers of the word, and not hearers onely, deceiuing your owne selues.

²⁰ But wilt thou vnderstand, O thou vaine man, that the faith which is without workes, is dead?

² For in many things we sinne all. If any man sinne not in word, he is a perfect man, and able to bridle all the body. ³ Beholde, we put bittes into the horses mouthes, that they should obey vs, and we turne about all their bodie. ⁴ Behold also the shippes, which though they be so great, and are driuen of fierce windes, yet are they turned about with a very small rudder, whither soeuer the gouernour listeth. ⁵ Euen so the tongue is a litle member, and boasteth of great things: beholde, howe great a thing a litle fire kindleth. ⁶ And the tongue is fire, yea, a worlde of wickednesse: so is the tongue set among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature, and it is set on fire of hell.

¹⁰ For if any man long after life, and to see good dayes, let him refraine his tongue from euill, and his lippes that they speake no guile.
