²³ And God stirred him vp another aduersarie, Rezon the sonne of Eliada, which fled from his lorde Hadadezer King of Zobah. ²⁴ And he gathered men vnto him, and had bene captaine ouer the company, when Dauid slew them. And they went to Damascus, and dwelt there, and they made him King in Damascus.

⁸ But he forsooke the counsell that the olde men had giuen him, and asked counsell of the yong men that had bene brought vp with him, and waited on him. ⁹ And he said vnto them, What counsell giue ye, that we may answere this people, which haue spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke, which thy father did put vpon vs, lighter? ¹⁰ Then the yong men that were brought vp with him, spake vnto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say vnto this people, that haue spoken vnto thee, and said, Thy father hath made our yoke heauie, but make thou it lighter vnto vs: euen thus shalt thou say vnto them, My least part shalbe bigger then my fathers loynes. ¹¹ Now where as my father did burden you with a grieuous yoke, I will yet make your yoke heauier: my father hath chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.

³⁴ In his dayes did Hiel the Bethelite buylde Iericho: he layed the foundation thereof in Abiram his eldest sonne, and set vp the gates thereof in his yongest sonne Segub, according to the worde of the Lord which he spake by Ioshua the sonne of Nun.

¹ Then Ben-hadad the King of Aram assembled all his armie, and two and thirtie Kings with him, with horses, and charets, and went vp and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.

¹² And when he heard that tidings, as he was with the Kings drinking in the pauilions, he sayd vnto his seruants, Bring forth your engines, and they set them against the citie. ¹³ And beholde, there came a Prophet vnto Ahab King of Israel, saying, Thus sayeth the Lord, Hast thou seene all this great multitude? beholde, I will deliuer it into thine hande this day, that thou mayest knowe, that I am the Lord.

¹⁹ So they came out of the citie, to wit, the seruants of the princes of the prouinces, and the hoste which followed them. ²⁰ And they slew euery one his enemie: and the Aramites fled, and Israel pursued them: but Ben-hadad ye King of Aram escaped on an horse with his horsemen. ²¹ And the King of Israel went out, and smote the horses and charets, and with a great slaughter slew he the Aramites.

²⁴ And this doe, Take the Kings away, euery one out of his place, and place captaines for them.

²⁸ And there came a man of God, and spake vnto the King of Israel, saying, Thus sayeth the Lord, Because the Aramites haue sayd, The Lord is the God of the mountaines, and not God of the valleis, therefore will I deliuer all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the Lord. ²⁹ And they pitched one ouer against the other seuen dayes, and in the seuenth day the battel was ioyned: and the children of Israel slew of the Aramites an hundreth thousand footemen in one day. ³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek into the citie: and there fel a wall vpon seuen and twentie thousand men that were left: and Ben-hadad fled into the citie, and came into a secret chamber.

¹³ Then he sayd vnto him, Say vnto her now, Beholde, thou hast had all this great care for vs, what shall we doe for thee? Is there any thing to bee spoken for thee to the King or to the captaine of the hoste? And shee answered, I dwell among mine owne people.

⁶ And Dauid sayd, Whosoeuer smiteth the Iebusites first, shalbe the chiefe and captaine. So Ioab the sonne of Zeruiah went first vp, and was captaine.

¹⁰ These also are the chiefe of the valiant men that were with Dauid, and ioyned their force with him in his kingdome with al Israel, to make him King ouer Israel, according to the worde of the Lord. ¹¹ And this is the nomber of the valiant men whome Dauid had, Iashobeam the sonne of Hachmoni, the chiefe among thirtie: he lift vp his speare against three hundreth, whom he slewe at one time. ¹² And after him was Eleazar the sonne of Dodo the Ahohite, which was one of the three valiant men. ¹³ He was with Dauid at Pas-dammim, and there the Philistims were gathered together to battel: and there was a parcell of ground full of barley, and the people fled before the Philistims. ¹⁴ And they stood in the middes of the field, and saued it, and slewe the Philistims: so the Lord gaue a great victorie. ¹⁵ And three of the thirtie captaines went to a rocke to Dauid, into the caue of Adullam. And the armie of the Philistims camped in the valley of Rephaim. ¹⁶ And when Dauid was in the hold, the Philistims garison was at Beth-lehem. ¹⁷ And Dauid longed, and said, Oh, that one would giue me to drinke of the water of the well of Beth-lehem that is at the gate. ¹⁸ Then these three brake thorowe the hoste of the Philistims, and drewe water out of the well of Beth-lehem that was by the gate, and tooke it and brought it to Dauid: but Dauid would not drinke of it, but powred it for an oblation to the Lord, ¹⁹ And said, Let not my God suffer me to do this: should I drinke the blood of these mens liues? for they haue brought it with the ieopardie of their liues: therefore he would not drinke it: these things did these three mightie men. ²⁰ And Abishai the brother of Ioab, he was chiefe of the three, and he lift vp his speare against three hundreth, and slew them, and had the name among the three.

And Dauid made him of his counsell. ²⁶ These also were valiant men of warre, Asahel the brother of Ioab, Elhanan the sonne of Dodo of Beth-lehem, ²⁷ Shammoth the Harodite, Helez the Pelonite, ²⁸ Ira the sonne of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Antothite, ²⁹ Sibbecai the Husathite, Ilai the Ahohite, ³⁰ Maharai the Netophathite, Heled ye sonne of Baanah the Netophathite, ³¹ Ithai the sonne of Ribai of Gibeah of the children of Beniamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite, ³² Hurai of the riuers of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite, ³³ Azmaueth the Baharumite, Elihaba the Shaalbonite, ³⁴ The sonnes of Hashem the Gizonite, Ionathan the sonne of Shageh the Harite, ³⁵ Ahiam the sonne of Sacar the Hararite, Eliphal the sonne of Vr, ³⁶ Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahiiah the Pelonite, ³⁷ Hezro the Carmelite, Naarai the sonne of Ezbai, ³⁸ Ioel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the sonne of Haggeri, ³⁹ Zelek the Ammonite, Nahrai the Berothite, the armour bearer of Ioab, the sonne of Zeruiah, ⁴⁰ Ira the Ithrite, Garib the Ithrite, ⁴¹ Vriah the Hittite, Zabad the sonne of Ahlai, ⁴² Adina the sonne of Shiza the Reubenite, a captaine of the Reubenites, and thirtie with him, ⁴³ Hanan the sonne of Maachah, and Ioshaphat the Mithnite, ⁴⁴ Vzia the Ashterathite, Shama and Ieiel the sonnes of Otham the Aroerite, ⁴⁵ Iediael the sonne of Shimri, and Ioha his brother the Tizite, ⁴⁶ Eliel the Mahauite, and Ieribai and Ioshauiah the sonnes of Elnaam, and Ithmah the Moabite, ⁴⁷ Eliel and Obed, and Iaasiel the Mesobaite.

¹⁷ And the fame of Dauid went out into all landes, and the Lord brought the feare of him vpon all nations.

⁴ And Dauid tooke from him a thousand charets, and seuen thousand horsemen, and twentie thousand footemen, and destroyed all the charets, but he reserued of them an hundreth charets. ⁵ Then came the Aramites of Damascus to succour Hadarezer King of Zobah, but Dauid slewe of the Aramites two and twentie thousand.

⁹ Then Tou King of Hamath heard howe Dauid had smitten all the hoste of Hadarezer King of Zobah:

¹² And Abishai the sonne of Zeruiah smote of Edom in the salt valley eighteene thousand,

⁹ And the children of Ammon came out, and set their battell in aray at the gate of the citie. And the Kings that were come, were by them selues in the fielde.

¹³ Be strong, and let vs shewe our selues valiant for our people, and for the cities of our God, and let the Lord doe that which is good in his owne sight. ¹⁴ So Ioab and the people that was with him, came neere before the Aramites vnto the battel, and they fled before him.

³ And Abiiah set the battel in aray with the armie of valiant men of warre, euen foure hundreth thousand chosen men. Ieroboam also set the battell in aray against him with eight hundreth thousande chosen men which were strong and valiant.

⁵ Ought you not to know that the Lord God of Israel hath giuen the kingdome ouer Israel to Dauid for euer, euen to him and to his sonnes by a couenant of salt? ⁶ And Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat the seruant of Salomon the sonne of Dauid is risen vp, and hath rebelled against his lord: ⁷ And there are gathered to him vayne men and wicked, and made themselues strong against Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon: for Rehoboam was but a childe and tender hearted, and coulde not resist them. ⁸ Now therefore ye thinke that yee be able to resist against the kingdome of the Lord, which is in the handes of the sonnes of Dauid, and ye bee a great multitude, and the golden calues are with you which Ieroboam made you for gods. ⁹ Haue ye not driuen away the Priestes of the Lord the sonnes of Aaron and the Leuites, and haue made you Priests like the people of other countreis? whosoeuer commeth to consecrate with a yong bullocke and seuen rams, the same may be a Priest of them that are no gods. ¹⁰ But wee belong vnto the Lord our God, and haue not forsaken him, and the Priestes the sonnes of Aaron minister vnto the Lord, and the Leuites in their office. ¹¹ And they burne vnto the Lord euery morning and euery euening burnt offerings and sweete incense, and the breade is set in order vpon the pure table, and the candlesticke of golde with the lampes thereof, to burne euery euening: for we keepe the watch of the Lord our God: but ye haue forsaken him. ¹² And behold, this God is with vs, as a captaine, and his Priests with the sounding trumpets, to crie an alarme against you. O yee children of Israel, fight not against the Lord God of your fathers: for ye shall not prosper. ¹³ But Ieroboam caused an ambushment to compasse, and come behind them, when they were before Iudah, and the ambushment behinde them. ¹⁴ Then Iudah looked, and beholde, the battel was before and behinde them, and they cried vnto the Lord, and the Priests blewe with the trumpets, ¹⁵ And the men of Iudah gaue a shoute: and euen as the men of Iudah shouted, God smote Ieroboam and also Israel before Abiiah and Iudah. ¹⁶ And the children of Israel fledde before Iudah, and God deliuered them into their hande.

⁹ And there came out against them Zerah of Ethiopia with an hoste of ten hundreth thousande, and three hundreth charets, and came vnto Mareshah. ¹⁰ Then Asa went out before him, and they set the battell in aray in the valley of Zephathah beside Mareshah.

² Then Asa brought out siluer and gold out of the treasures of the house of the Lord, and of the Kings house, and sent to Benhadad King of Aram that dwelt at Damascus, saying, ³ There is a couenant betweene me and thee, and betweene my father and thy father: behold, I haue sent thee siluer and golde: come, breake thy league with Baasha King of Israel that hee may depart from me.

³ And Ahab King of Israel saide vnto Iehoshaphat King of Iudah, Wilt thou goe with mee to Ramoth Gilead? And hee answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people, and wee will ioyne with thee in the warre.

⁵ Therefore the King of Israel gathered of Prophets foure hundreth men, and sayde vnto them, Shall we goe to Ramoth Gilead to battel, or shall I cease? And they sayd, Go vp: for God shall deliuer it into the Kings hand.

⁹ And the King of Israel, and Iehoshaphat King of Iudah sate either of them on his throne clothed in their apparel: they sate euen in the threshing floore at the entring in of the gate of Samaria: and all the Prophets prophesied before them.

⁶ He hyred also an hundreth thousand valiant men out of Israel for an hundreth talents of siluer.

⁵ And he fought with the King of the children of Ammon, and preuailed against them. And the children of Ammon gaue him the same yere an hundreth talents of siluer, and ten thousande measures of wheate, and ten thousand of barley: this did the children of Ammon giue him both in the second yeere and the third.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God and despised his wordes, and misused his Prophets, vntill the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, and till there was no remedie.

⁴ Arise: for the matter belogeth vnto thee: we also wil be with thee: be of comfort and do it.

³ And Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and said, Although they buylde, yet if a foxe goe vp, he shall euen breake downe their stonie wall.

⁷ But when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodims heard that the walles of Ierusalem were repayred, (for the breaches began to be stopped) then they were very wroth,

¹⁴ Then I behelde, and rose vp, and said vnto the Princes, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not afrayde of them: remember the great Lord, and fearefull, and fight for your brethren, your sonnes, and your daughters, your wiues, and your houses.

²⁰ In what place therefore ye heare the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither vnto vs: our God shall fight for vs.

¹ And on that day did they reade in the booke of Moses, in the audience of the people, and it was found written therein, that the Ammonite, and the Moabite should not enter into the Congregation of God,

³ Then the King sayde, What honour and dignitie hath bene giuen to Mordecai for this? And the Kings seruants that ministred vnto him, sayd, There is nothing done for him.

²² In all this did not Iob sinne, nor charge God foolishly.

¹ Why doe the heathen rage, and the people murmure in vaine?

³ All are gone out of the way: they are all corrupt: there is none that doeth good, no not one.

³² God girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way vpright.

³⁹ For thou hast girded me with strength to battell: them, that rose against me, thou hast subdued vnder me.

⁴⁴ As soone as they heare, they shall obey me: the strangers shall be in subiection to me.

⁷ Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the Name of ye Lord our God. ⁸ They are brought downe and fallen, but we are risen, and stand vpright. ⁹ Saue Lord: let the King heare vs in the day that we call.

¹⁴ Hope in the Lord: be strong, and he shall comfort thine heart, and trust in the Lord.

¹⁶ The King is not saued by the multitude of an hoste, neither is the mightie man deliuered by great strength.

¹² They rewarded me euill for good, to haue spoyled my soule.

⁹ He maketh warres to cease vnto the endes of the world: he breaketh the bowe and cutteth the speare, and burneth the chariots with fire.

¹¹ The Lord of hostes is with vs: the God of Iaakob is our refuge. Selah.

³ In the palaces thereof God is knowen for a refuge. ⁴ For lo, the Kings were gathered, and went together. ⁵ When they sawe it, they marueiled: they were astonied, and suddenly driuen backe. ⁶ Feare came there vpon them, and sorowe, as vpon a woman in trauaile.

⁴ For my friendship they were mine aduersaries, but I gaue my selfe to praier. ⁵ And they haue rewarded me euil for good, and hatred for my friendship.

⁹ Two are better then one: for they haue better wages for their labour. ¹⁰ For if they fal, the one wil lift vp his felow: but wo vnto him that is alone: for he falleth, and there is not a second to lift him vp. ¹¹ Also if two sleepe together, then shall they haue heate: but to one how should there be heate? ¹² And if one ouercome him, two shall stand against him: and a threefolde coard is not easily broken.

¹⁵ And there was founde therein a poore and wise man, and he deliuered the citie by his wisedome: but none remembred this poore man.

⁹ Gather together on heapes, O ye people, and ye shalbe broken in pieces, and hearken all ye of farre countreys: gird your selues, and you shalbe broken in pieces: gird your selues, and you shalbe broken in pieces.

⁸ For he sayeth, Are not my princes altogether Kings?

² He shall goe vp to the temple, and to Dibon to the hie places to weepe: for Nebo and for Medeba shall Moab howle: vpon all their heades shalbe baldnesse, and euery beard shauen.

⁴ So shall the King of Asshur take away the captiuitie of Egypt, and the captiuitie of Ethiopia, both yong men and olde men, naked and barefoote, with their buttockes vncouered, to the shame of Egypt.

⁶ And Elam bare the quiuer in a mans charet with horsemen, and Kir vncouered the shield. ⁷ And thy chiefe valleis were full of charets, and the horsemen set themselues in aray against the gate.

⁶ And for a spirite of iudgement to him that sitteth in iudgement, and for strength vnto them that turne away the battell to the gate.

² Take the mill stones, and grinde meale: loose thy lockes: make bare the feete: vncouer the legge, and passe through the floods. ³ Thy filthinesse shall be discouered, and thy shame shall be seene: I will take vengeance, and I will not meete thee as a man.

⁵ There came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, euen fourescore men, hauing their beardes shauen, and their clothes rent and cut, with offerings and incense in their hands to offer in the house of the Lord.

¹⁵ Why are thy valiant men put backe? they could not stand, because the Lord did driue them. ¹⁶ Hee made many to fall, and one fell vpon another: and they saide, Arise, let vs goe againe to our owne people, and to the land of our natiuitie from the sworde of the violent.

³⁷ For euery head shalbe balde, and euery beard plucked: vpon all the handes shall be cuttings, and vpon the loynes sackecloth.

⁴² They shall holde the bowe and the buckeler: they are cruell and vnmercifull: their voyce shall roare like the sea, and they shall ride vpon horses, and be put in aray like men to the battell against thee, O daughter of Babel.

⁵ Like the noyse of charrets in the toppes of the mountaines shall they leape, like the noyse of a flame of fire that deuoureth the stubble, and as a mightie people prepared to the battel.

¹¹ Nowe also many nations are gathered against thee, saying, Zion shalbe condemned and our eye shall looke vpon Zion. ¹² But they knowe not the thoughtes of the Lord: they vnderstand not his counsell, for he shall gather them as the sheaues in the barne.

¹ Beholde, the day of the Lord commeth, and thy spoyle shall be deuided in the middes of thee. ² For I will gather all nations against Ierusalem to battell, and the citie shall be taken, and the houses spoyled, and the women defiled, and halfe of the citie shall goe into captiuitie, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from ye citie. ³ Then shall the Lord goe foorth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battell.

³¹ And when his other felowe seruants sawe what was done, they were very sory, and came, and declared vnto their Lord all that was done.

⁴ And againe he sent vnto them another seruant, and at him they cast stones, and brake his head, and sent him away shamefully handled.

¹⁶ He that heareth you, heareth me: and he that despiseth you, despiseth me: and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me.

¹⁰ And at the time conuenient he sent a seruant to the husbandmen, that they should giue him of the fruite of the vineyard: but the husbandmen did beate him, and sent him away emptie. ¹¹ Againe he sent yet another seruant: and they did beate him, and foule entreated him, and sent him away emptie.

³¹ What shall we then say to these thinges? If God be on our side, who can be against vs?

⁵ It doeth no vncomely thing: it seeketh not her owne things: it is not prouoked to anger: it thinketh not euill: ⁶ It reioyceth not in iniquitie, but reioyceth in the trueth: ⁷ It suffreth all things: it beleeueth all things: it hopeth all things: it endureth all things.

¹³ Watch ye: stand fast in the faith: quite you like men, and be strong.

² Beare ye one anothers burden, and so fulfill the Lawe of Christ.

²⁷ Onely let your conuersation be, as it becommeth the Gospel of Christ, that whether I come and see you, or els be absent, I may heare of your matters that ye continue in one Spirit, and in one mind, fighting together through the faith of the Gospel. ²⁸ And in nothing feare your aduersaries, which is to them a token of perdition, and to you of saluation, and that of God.

⁸ Hee therefore that despiseth these thinges, despiseth not man, but God who hath euen giuen you his holy Spirit.
