²⁶ John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not,

¹ Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in, behold, he cometh, saith the LORD of hosts. ² But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:

¹¹ I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and [with] fire:

⁸ I baptized you with water; but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

¹⁶ John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but there cometh he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and [with] fire:

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. ¹¹ He came unto his own, and they that were his own received him not.

¹⁹ They said therefore unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye know neither me, nor my Father: if ye knew me, ye would know my Father also.

³ And these things will they do, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

³ And this is life eternal, that they should know thee the only true God, and him whom thou didst send, [even] Jesus Christ.

²⁵ O righteous Father, the world knew thee not, but I knew thee; and these knew that thou didst send me;

⁵ For John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

¹⁶ And I remembered the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

¹ Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God: and [such] we are. For this cause the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
