¹² Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s handmaid, bare unto Abraham:

¹⁰ And the angel of the LORD said unto her, I will greatly multiply thy seed, that it shall not be numbered for multitude. ¹¹ And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son; and thou shalt call his name Ishmael, because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. ¹² And he shall be [as] a wild-ass among men; his hand [shall be] against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren. ¹³ And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou art a God that seeth: for she said, Have I even here looked after him that seeth me? ¹⁴ Wherefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered. ¹⁵ And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called the name of his son, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.

²⁰ And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.

¹³ And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.
