¹⁴ I will be his father, and he shall be my son: if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men;

⁵ And thou shalt consider in thine heart, that, as a man chasteneth his son, so the LORD thy God chasteneth thee.

¹³ I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:

⁶ And he said unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

¹⁷ Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.

²⁰ I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him: ²¹ With whom my hand shall be established; mine arm also shall strengthen him. ²² The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. ²³ And I will beat down his adversaries before him, and smite them that hate him. ²⁴ But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him; and in my name shall his horn be exalted. ²⁵ I will set his hand also on the sea, and his right hand on the rivers. ²⁶ He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. ²⁷ I also will make him [my] firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. ²⁸ My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him. ²⁹ His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven. ³⁰ If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; ³¹ If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; ³² Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. ³³ But my mercy will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail. ³⁴ My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. ³⁵ Once have I sworn by my holiness; I will not lie unto David; ³⁶ His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me. ³⁷ It shall be established for ever as the moon, and [as] the faithful witness in the sky. ¹² Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest out of thy law; ¹³ That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.

¹¹ My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his reproof: ¹² For whom the LORD loveth he reproveth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

¹¹ For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have scattered thee, but I will not make a full end of thee; but I will correct thee with judgment, and will in no wise leave thee unpunished.

¹⁷ and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

³² But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

⁵ For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, This day have I begotten thee? and again, I will be to him a Father, And he shall be to me a Son?

⁵ and ye have forgotten the exhortation, which reasoneth with you as with sons, My son, regard not lightly the chastening of the Lord, Nor faint when thou art reproved of him; ⁶ For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. ⁷ It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is there whom [his] father chasteneth not? ⁸ But if ye are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? ¹⁰ For they verily for a few days chastened [us] as seemed good to them; but he for [our] profit, that [we] may be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹ All chastening seemeth for the present to be not joyous, but grievous: yet afterward it yieldeth peaceable fruit unto them that have been exercised thereby, [even the fruit] of righteousness.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
