¹ Beloved, believe not every spirit, but prove the spirits, whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. ² Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: every spirit which confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: ³ and every spirit which confesseth not Jesus is not of God: and this is the [spirit] of the antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it cometh; and now it is in the world already. ⁴ Ye are of God, [my] little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. ⁵ They are of the world: therefore speak they [as] of the world, and the world heareth them. ⁶ We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he who is not of God heareth us not. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. ⁷ Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is begotten of God, and knoweth God. ⁸ He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. ⁹ Herein was the love of God manifested in us, that God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. ¹⁰ Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. ¹² No man hath beheld God at any time: if we love one another, God abideth in us, and his love is perfected in us: ¹³ hereby know we that we abide in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. ¹⁴ And we have beheld and bear witness that the Father hath sent the Son [to be] the Saviour of the world. ¹⁵ Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God. ¹⁶ And we know and have believed the love which God hath in us. God is love; and he that abideth in love abideth in God, and God abideth in him. ¹⁷ Herein is love made perfect with us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as he is, even so are we in this world. ¹⁸ There is no fear in love: but perfect love casteth out fear, because fear hath punishment; and he that feareth is not made perfect in love. ¹⁹ We love, because he first loved us. ²⁰ If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, cannot love God whom he hath not seen. ²¹ And this commandment have we from him, that he who loveth God love his brother also.

¹ If there arise in the midst of thee a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and he give thee a sign or a wonder, ² and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; ³ thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or unto that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. ⁴ Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. ⁵ And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken rebellion against the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of bondage, to draw thee aside out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee.

¹⁵ The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

³¹ the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?

⁸ For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Let not your prophets that be in the midst of you, and your diviners, deceive you, neither hearken ye to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed. ⁹ For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.

¹⁵ Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves. ¹⁶ By their fruits ye shall know them. Do [men] gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

⁴ And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man lead you astray. ⁵ For many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ; and shall lead many astray.

²³ Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is the Christ, or, Here; believe [it] not. ²⁴ For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. ²⁵ Behold, I have told you beforehand. ²⁶ If therefore they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the wilderness; go not forth: Behold, he is in the inner chambers; believe [it] not.

²¹ And then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is the Christ; or, Lo, there; believe [it] not:

⁵⁷ And why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?

⁸ And he said, Take heed that ye be not led astray: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am [he]; and, The time is at hand: go ye not after them.

¹¹ Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the scriptures daily, whether these things were so.

²⁹ I know that after my departing grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock;

¹⁸ For they that are such serve not our Lord Christ, but their own belly; and by their smooth and fair speech they beguile the hearts of the innocent. ¹⁹ For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I rejoice therefore over you: but I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple unto that which is evil.

¹⁰ and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discernings of spirits: to another [divers] kinds of tongues; and to another the interpretation of tongues:

²⁹ And let the prophets speak [by] two or three, and let the others discern.

²¹ prove all things; hold fast that which is good;

¹ But the Spirit saith expressly, that in later times some shall fall away from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils,

¹³ But evil men and impostors shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.

¹ But there arose false prophets also among the people, as among you also there shall be false teachers, who shall privily bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.

¹⁸ Little children, it is the last hour: and as ye heard that antichrist cometh, even now have there arisen many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last hour.

⁷ For many deceivers are gone forth into the world, [even] they that confess not that Jesus Christ cometh in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist.

² I know thy works, and thy toil and patience, and that thou canst not bear evil men, and didst try them which call themselves apostles, and they are not, and didst find them false;

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.

¹³ Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever he shall hear, [these] shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come. ¹⁴ He shall glorify me: for he shall take of mine, and shall declare [it] unto you. ¹⁵ All things whatsoever the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he taketh of mine, and shall declare [it] unto you.

³ Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking in the Spirit of God saith, Jesus is anathema; and no man can say, Jesus is Lord, but in the Holy Spirit.

¹⁶ And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness; He who was manifested in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen of angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, received up in glory.

²³ Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that confesseth the Son hath the Father also.

³ and every spirit which confesseth not Jesus is not of God: and this is the [spirit] of the antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it cometh; and now it is in the world already.

¹ Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God: and whosoever loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

³ let no man beguile you in any wise: for [it will not be], except the falling away come first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, ⁴ he that opposeth and exalteth himself against all that is called God or that is worshipped; so that he sitteth in the temple of God, setting himself forth as God. ⁵ Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? ⁶ And now ye know that which restraineth, to the end that he may be revealed in his own season. ⁷ For the mystery of lawlessness doth already work: only [there is] one that restraineth now, until he be taken out of the way. ⁸ And then shall be revealed the lawless one, whom the Lord Jesus shall slay with the breath of his mouth, and bring to nought by the manifestation of his coming;

²² Who is the liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, [even] he that denieth the Father and the Son.

²⁸ and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father, which hath given [them] unto me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch [them] out of the Father’s hand. ³⁰ I and the Father are one.

³¹ Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

¹⁷ [even] the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you. ¹⁸ I will not leave you desolate: I come unto you. ¹⁹ Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye behold me: because I live, ye shall live also. ²⁰ In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. ²¹ He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him. ²² Judas (not Iscariot) saith unto him, Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? ²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

³⁰ I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world cometh: and he hath nothing in me;

¹¹ of judgment, because the prince of this world hath been judged.

²³ I in them, and thou in me, that they may be perfected into one; that the world may know that thou didst send me, and lovedst them, even as thou lovedst me.

¹⁰ And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness. ¹¹ But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall quicken also your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

³¹ What then shall we say to these things? If God [is] for us, who [is] against us?

³⁷ Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

¹² But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God.

¹³ Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall bring to nought both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body:

⁴ in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn [upon them].

¹⁶ And what agreement hath a temple of God with idols? for we are a temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

² wherein aforetime ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience;

¹⁷ that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

¹⁰ Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might.

¹² For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly [places]. ¹³ Wherefore take up the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and, having done all, to stand.

¹³ I write unto you, fathers, because ye know him which is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the evil one. I have written unto you, little children, because ye know the Father.

⁹ Whosoever is begotten of God doeth no sin, because his seed abideth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is begotten of God. ¹⁰ In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

²⁴ And he that keepeth his commandments abideth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.

⁶ We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he who is not of God heareth us not. By this we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

¹³ hereby know we that we abide in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

¹⁶ And we know and have believed the love which God hath in us. God is love; and he that abideth in love abideth in God, and God abideth in him.

⁴ For whatsoever is begotten of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that hath overcome the world, [even] our faith.

¹⁹ We know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in the evil one.

¹¹ And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb, and because of the word of their testimony; and they loved not their life even unto death.

⁴ As for the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the ways of the violent.

¹⁰ which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: ¹¹ get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.

⁸ For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Let not your prophets that be in the midst of you, and your diviners, deceive you, neither hearken ye to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

¹¹ If a man walking in wind and falsehood do lie, [saying], I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.

⁸ And his lord commended the unrighteous steward because he had done wisely: for the sons of this world are for their own generation wiser than the sons of the light.

³¹ He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is of the earth, and of the earth he speaketh: he that cometh from heaven is above all.

⁶ Jesus therefore saith unto them, My time is not yet come; but your time is alway ready. ⁷ The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that its works are evil.

²³ And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said unto you, A servant is not greater than his lord. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

¹⁴ I have given them thy word; and the world hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

¹⁶ They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

³ For the time will come when they will not endure the sound doctrine; but, having itching ears, will heap to themselves teachers after their own lusts;

² And many shall follow their lascivious doings; by reason of whom the way of the truth shall be evil spoken of. ³ And in covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose sentence now from of old lingereth not, and their destruction slumbereth not.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast down, the old serpent, he that is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world; he was cast down to the earth, and his angels were cast down with him.

²⁰ To the law and to the testimony! if they speak not according to this word, surely there is no morning for them.

¹⁰ For the LORD hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes, the prophets; and your heads, the seers, hath he covered.

¹² My people ask counsel at their stock, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredom hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.

⁸ But I truly am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.

²² All things have been delivered unto me of my Father: and no one knoweth who the Son is, save the Father; and who the Father is, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son willeth to reveal [him].

¹⁹ They said therefore unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye know neither me, nor my Father: if ye knew me, ye would know my Father also.

⁴⁵ But because I say the truth, ye believe me not. ⁴⁶ Which of you convicteth me of sin? If I say truth, why do ye not believe me? ⁴⁷ He that is of God heareth the words of God: for this cause ye hear [them] not, because ye are not of God. ⁴⁸ The Jews answered and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil? ⁴⁹ Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me. ⁵⁰ But I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

¹⁶ And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and they shall become one flock, one shepherd.

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

²⁰ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

¹⁷ [even] the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you.

²⁶ But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall bear witness of me:

¹³ Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever he shall hear, [these] shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come.

³⁷ Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end have I been born, and to this end am I come into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

²¹ Jesus therefore said to them again, Peace [be] unto you: as the Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

¹ Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called [to be] an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,

⁸ according as it is written, God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, unto this very day.

¹² But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us by God. ¹³ Which things also we speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Spirit teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. ¹⁴ Now the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually judged.

³⁷ If any man thinketh himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him take knowledge of the things which I write unto you, that they are the commandment of the Lord.

⁷ Ye look at the things that are before your face. If any man trusteth in himself that he is Christ’s, let him consider this again with himself, that, even as he is Christ’s, so also are we.

⁸ in flaming fire, rendering vengeance to them that know not God, and to them that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus:

⁹ [even he], whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all deceit of unrighteousness for them that are perishing; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie:

² that ye should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Saviour through your apostles:

⁸ He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

¹⁷ But ye, beloved, remember ye the words which have been spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;

⁶ And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.

³ And this is life eternal, that they should know thee the only true God, and him whom thou didst send, [even] Jesus Christ.

⁶ Seeing it is God, that said, Light shall shine out of darkness, who shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

⁹ but now that ye have come to know God, or rather to be known of God, how turn ye back again to the weak and beggarly rudiments, whereunto ye desire to be in bondage over again?

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

⁹ But concerning love of the brethren ye have no need that one write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another; ¹⁰ for indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brethren, that ye abound more and more;

⁷ For God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness; but of power and love and discipline.

²² Seeing ye have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth unto unfeigned love of the brethren, love one another from the heart fervently:

¹⁰ He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

²⁹ If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one also that doeth righteousness is begotten of him.

¹⁰ In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. ¹¹ For this is the message which ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another: ¹² not as Cain was of the evil one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. ¹³ Marvel not, brethren, if the world hateth you. ¹⁴ We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not abideth in death. ¹⁵ Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. ¹⁶ Hereby know we love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ¹⁷ But whoso hath the world’s goods, and beholdeth his brother in need, and shutteth up his compassion from him, how doth the love of God abide in him? ¹⁸ [My] little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue; but in deed and truth. ¹⁹ Hereby shall we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before him, ²⁰ whereinsoever our heart condemn us; because God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness toward God; ²² and whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do the things that are pleasing in his sight. ²³ And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he gave us commandment.

⁶ And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, the LORD, a God full of compassion and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy and truth; ⁷ keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin: and that will by no means clear [the guilty]; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, upon the third and upon the fourth generation.

⁵ For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive, and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

¹⁵ But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy and truth.

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father that glorifieth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God; ⁵⁵ and ye have not known him: but I know him; and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be like unto you, a liar: but I know him, and keep his word.

¹¹ Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfected; be comforted; be of the same mind; live in peace: and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

⁴ but God, being rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

²⁹ for our God is a consuming fire.

⁵ And this is the message which we have heard from him, and announce unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

⁴ He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him:

⁹ He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in the darkness even until now.

⁶ Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither knoweth him.

⁷ Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is begotten of God, and knoweth God.

⁷ I will tell of the decree: the LORD said unto me, Thou art my son; this day have I begotten thee.

⁶ He had yet one, a beloved son: he sent him last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.

¹⁸ The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised,

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth. ¹⁵ John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is become before me: for he was before me. ¹⁶ For of his fulness we all received, and grace for grace. ¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses; grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].

¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.

¹⁸ He that believeth on him is not judged: he that believeth not hath been judged already, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God.

²³ that all may honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which sent him.

²⁹ Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

⁵¹ I am the living bread which came down out of heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: yea and the bread which I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world.

⁵⁷ As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he that eateth me, he also shall live because of me.

²⁹ And he that sent me is with me; he hath not left me alone; for I do always the things that are pleasing to him.

⁴² Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I came forth and am come from God; for neither have I come of myself, but he sent me.

¹⁰ The thief cometh not, but that he may steal, and kill, and destroy: I came that they may have life, and may have [it] abundantly.

²⁵ Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, though he die, yet shall he live: ²⁶ and whosoever liveth and believeth on me shall never die. Believest thou this?

⁶ Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.

⁸ But God commendeth his own love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. ⁹ Much more then, being now justified by his blood, shall we be saved from the wrath [of God] through him. ¹⁰ For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by his life;

³² He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not also with him freely give us all things?

³ For ye died, and your life is hid with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, [who is] our life, shall be manifested, then shall ye also with him be manifested in glory.

⁵ For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, This day have I begotten thee? and again, I will be to him a Father, And he shall be to me a Son?

¹⁶ Hereby know we love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

¹⁰ Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins.

¹¹ And the witness is this, that God gave unto us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

⁷ The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all peoples: ⁸ but because the LORD loveth you, and because he would keep the oath which he sware unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

²⁴ Seventy weeks are decreed upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy.

¹⁶ Ye did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that ye should go and bear fruit, and [that] your fruit should abide: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

²⁵ whom God set forth [to be] a propitiation, through faith, by his blood, to shew his righteousness, because of the passing over of the sins done aforetime, in the forbearance of God; ²⁶ for the shewing, [I say], of his righteousness at this present season: that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him that hath faith in Jesus.

²⁹ For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren: ³⁰ and whom he foreordained, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

¹⁹ to wit, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not reckoning unto them their trespasses, and having committed unto us the word of reconciliation. ²⁰ We are ambassadors therefore on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beseech [you] on behalf of Christ, be ye reconciled to God. ²¹ Him who knew no sin he made [to be] sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in him.

⁴ but God, being rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, ⁵ even when we were dead through our trespasses, quickened us together with Christ (by grace have ye been saved),

³ For we also were aforetime foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. ⁴ But when the kindness of God our Saviour, and his love toward man, appeared, ⁵ not by works [done] in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost,

²⁴ who his own self bare our sins in his body upon the tree, that we, having died unto sins, might live unto righteousness; by whose stripes ye were healed.

¹⁸ Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in the flesh, but quickened in the spirit;

² and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.

¹ Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God: and [such] we are. For this cause the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

⁸ He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. ⁹ Herein was the love of God manifested in us, that God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

¹⁹ We love, because he first loved us.

³² Then his lord called him unto him, and saith to him, Thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou besoughtest me: ³³ shouldest not thou also have had mercy on thy fellow-servant, even as I had mercy on thee?

³⁷ And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. And Jesus said unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

³⁴ A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

¹² This is my commandment, that ye love one another, even as I have loved you. ¹³ Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

⁸ I speak not by way of commandment, but as proving through the earnestness of others the sincerity also of your love. ⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might become rich.

³¹ Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and railing, be put away from you, with all malice:

¹³ forbearing one another, and forgiving each other, if any man have a complaint against any; even as the Lord forgave you, so also do ye:

¹⁶ Hereby know we love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ¹⁷ But whoso hath the world’s goods, and beholdeth his brother in need, and shutteth up his compassion from him, how doth the love of God abide in him?

²³ And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he gave us commandment.

³⁰ And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for, [said he], I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

²⁰ And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for man shall not see me and live.

⁸ with him will I speak mouth to mouth, even manifestly, and not in dark speeches; and the form of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?

¹⁸ No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].

¹³ But now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

¹⁷ Now unto the King eternal, incorruptible, invisible, the only God, [be] honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁶ who only hath immortality, dwelling in light unapproachable; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom [be] honour and power eternal. Amen.

²⁷ By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

⁵ but whoso keepeth his word, in him verily hath the love of God been perfected. Hereby know we that we are in him:

¹⁷ Herein is love made perfect with us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as he is, even so are we in this world. ¹⁸ There is no fear in love: but perfect love casteth out fear, because fear hath punishment; and he that feareth is not made perfect in love.

²⁰ If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, cannot love God whom he hath not seen.

²⁰ In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. ²¹ He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him. ²² Judas (not Iscariot) saith unto him, Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? ²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. ²⁴ He that loveth me not keepeth not my words: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me. ²⁵ These things have I spoken unto you, while [yet] abiding with you. ²⁶ But the Comforter, [even] the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you.

⁹ But ye are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. But if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. ¹⁰ And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness. ¹¹ But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall quicken also your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you. ¹² So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh: ¹³ for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by the spirit ye mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. ¹⁴ For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. ¹⁵ For ye received not the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. ¹⁶ The Spirit himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are children of God: ¹⁷ and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with [him], that we may be also glorified with [him].

¹⁶ Know ye not that ye are a temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? ¹⁷ If any man destroyeth the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which [temple] ye are.

¹⁹ Or know ye not that your body is a temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have from God? and ye are not your own;

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. ²⁴ And they that are of Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with the passions and the lusts thereof. ²⁵ If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk.

²⁰ being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the chief corner stone; ²¹ in whom each several building, fitly framed together, groweth into a holy temple in the Lord; ²² in whom ye also are builded together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.

¹⁵ Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God. ¹⁶ And we know and have believed the love which God hath in us. God is love; and he that abideth in love abideth in God, and God abideth in him.

²⁹ On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world!

¹¹ Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and bear witness of that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God sent not the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through him.

³² What he hath seen and heard, of that he beareth witness; and no man receiveth his witness.

³⁴ For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for he giveth not the Spirit by measure.

⁴² and they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speaking: for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.

³⁶ But the witness which I have is greater than [that of] John: for the works which the Father hath given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. ³⁷ And the Father which sent me, he hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.

³⁹ Ye search the scriptures, because ye think that in them ye have eternal life; and these are they which bear witness of me;

³⁶ say ye of him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am [the] Son of God?

⁴⁷ And if any man hear my sayings, and keep them not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

²⁶ But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall bear witness of me: ²⁷ and ye also bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

⁵ But when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was constrained by the word, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.

¹² By Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I account [him], I have written unto you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God: stand ye fast therein.

¹ That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we beheld, and our hands handled, concerning the Word of life ² (and the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare unto you the life, the eternal [life], which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us); ³ that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you also, that ye also may have fellowship with us: yea, and our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ:

¹ My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye may not sin. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: ² and he is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.

⁹ If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for the witness of God is this, that he hath borne witness concerning his Son.

³² Every one therefore who shall confess me before men, him will I also confess before my Father which is in heaven.

⁸ And I say unto you, Every one who shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

⁹ because if thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus [as] Lord, and shalt believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved:

¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

² Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: every spirit which confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

⁵ And who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

¹ For the Chief Musician. [A Psalm] of David the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: and he said, I love thee, O LORD, my strength. ² The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strong rock, in him will I trust; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower. ³ I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

¹⁹ Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee, which thou hast wrought for them that put their trust in thee, before the sons of men!

⁷ How precious is thy lovingkindness, O God! and the children of men take refuge under the shadow of thy wings. ⁸ They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures. ⁹ For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

⁴ For from of old men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen a God beside thee, which worketh for him that waiteth for him.

⁶⁹ And we have believed and know that thou art the Holy One of God.

⁹ but as it is written, Things which eye saw not, and ear heard not, And [which] entered not into the heart of man, Whatsoever things God prepared for them that love him.

⁸ He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. ⁹ Herein was the love of God manifested in us, that God hath sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. ¹⁰ Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins.

¹² No man hath beheld God at any time: if we love one another, God abideth in us, and his love is perfected in us: ¹³ hereby know we that we abide in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

¹⁵ Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.

²⁵ It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more [shall they call] them of his household!

²² Howbeit I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you.

²⁴ Howbeit I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

³⁶ And I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said unto you, A servant is not greater than his lord. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

²⁹ For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren:

² looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of [our] faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ³ For consider him that hath endured such gainsaying of sinners against themselves, that ye wax not weary, fainting in your souls.

¹³ For judgment [is] without mercy to him that hath shewed no mercy: mercy glorieth against judgment.

²² Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect;

¹⁶ having a good conscience; that, wherein ye are spoken against, they may be put to shame who revile your good manner of life in Christ. ¹⁷ For it is better, if the will of God should so will, that ye suffer for well-doing than for evil-doing. ¹⁸ Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in the flesh, but quickened in the spirit;

¹ Forasmuch then as Christ suffered in the flesh, arm ye yourselves also with the same mind; for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; ² that ye no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. ³ For the time past may suffice to have wrought the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries:

¹³ but insomuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exceeding joy. ¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed [are ye]; because the [Spirit] of glory and the Spirit of God resteth upon you.

⁹ the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment;

⁷ but the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

²⁸ And now, [my] little children, abide in him; that, if he shall be manifested, we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

³ And every one that hath this hope [set] on him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

¹⁹ Hereby shall we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before him, ²⁰ whereinsoever our heart condemn us; because God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness toward God;

²¹ A sound of terrors is in his ears; in prosperity the spoiler shall come upon him:

¹⁹ How are they become a desolation in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

¹⁵ I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted. ¹⁶ Thy fierce wrath is gone over me; thy terrors have cut me off.

¹²⁰ My flesh trembleth for fear of thee; and I am afraid of thy judgments.

⁷⁴ To grant unto us that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies Should serve him without fear, ⁷⁵ In holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

¹⁵ For ye received not the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

²⁸ Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace, whereby we may offer service well-pleasing to God with reverence and awe:

¹⁹ Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and shudder.

⁴⁷ Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, [the same] loveth little.

¹⁴ For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that one died for all, therefore all died; ¹⁵ and he died for all, that they which live should no longer live unto themselves, but unto him who for their sakes died and rose again.

³ among whom we also all once lived in the lusts of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest:—

⁸ whom not having seen ye love; on whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

⁶ If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in the darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

¹¹ But he that hateth his brother is in the darkness, and walketh in the darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because the darkness hath blinded his eyes.

¹⁷ But whoso hath the world’s goods, and beholdeth his brother in need, and shutteth up his compassion from him, how doth the love of God abide in him?

¹⁸ Thou shalt not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

⁴³ Ye have heard that it was said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy:

³⁷ And he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. ³⁸ This is the great and first commandment. ³⁹ And a second like [unto it] is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

²⁹ Jesus answered, The first is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God, the Lord is one: ³⁰ and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. ³¹ The second is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. ³² And the scribe said unto him, Of a truth, Master, thou hast well said that he is one; and there is none other but he: ³³ and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

³⁴ A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. ³⁵ By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

¹² This is my commandment, that ye love one another, even as I have loved you.

⁹ Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. ¹⁰ In love of the brethren be tenderly affectioned one to another; in honour preferring one another;

⁹ For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet, and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. ¹⁰ Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.

⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith working through love.

¹⁴ For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, [even] in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

⁹ But concerning love of the brethren ye have no need that one write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another;

⁸ Finally, [be] ye all likeminded, compassionate, loving as brethren, tenderhearted, humbleminded:

⁸ above all things being fervent in your love among yourselves; for love covereth a multitude of sins:

¹¹ For this is the message which ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another:

¹⁴ We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not abideth in death.

¹⁸ [My] little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue; but in deed and truth.

¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
