¹⁵ of Naphtali, Ahira, the son of Enan; ¹⁶ these were the renowned of the congregation, princes of the tribes of their fathers, captains of the thousands of Israel. ¹⁷ ¶ And Moses and Aaron took these men who were designated by their names, ¹⁸ and they assembled all the congregation together on the first of the second month, and they were gathered by their lineages, by the houses of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, by their polls, ¹⁹ as the LORD had commanded Moses; and he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai. ²⁰ And the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, by their generations, after their families, by the houses of their fathers, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; and ³⁴ of the sons of Manasseh, by their generations, after their families, by the houses of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, ³⁵ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty-two thousand two hundred. ³⁶ Of the sons of Benjamin, by their generations, after their families, by the houses of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, ³⁷ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty-five thousand four hundred. ³⁸ Of the sons of Dan, by their generations, after their families, by the houses of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, ³⁹ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Dan, were sixty-two thousand seven hundred. ⁴⁰ Of the sons of Asher, by their generations, after their families, by the houses of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, ⁴¹ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Asher, were forty-one thousand five hundred. ⁴² Of the sons of Naphtali, by their generations, after their families, by the houses of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war, ⁴³ those that were numbered of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand four hundred. ⁴⁴ ¶ These are those that were numbered, which Moses and Aaron numbered, and the twelve princes of Israel, one man for each house of his fathers. ⁴⁵ So were all those that were numbered of the sons of Israel, by the houses of their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel; ⁴⁶ all those that were numbered were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty. ⁴⁷ ¶ But the Levites according to the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them. ⁴⁸ For the LORD had spoken unto Moses, saying, ⁴⁹ Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the sons of Israel; ⁵⁰ But thou shalt place the Levites in the tabernacle of the testimony and over all the vessels thereof and over all things that belong to it; they shall bear the tabernacle and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister in it and shall encamp round about the tabernacle. ⁵¹ And when the tabernacle departs, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up; and the stranger that comes near shall be put to death. ⁵² And the sons of Israel shall pitch their tents, each man by his own camp and each man by his own standard, throughout their hosts. ⁵³ But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of the testimony that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the sons of Israel; and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony. ⁵⁴ And the sons of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did they.

¹ ¶ In the third month from when the sons of Israel had gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai.

²² And there I will meet with thee, and I will speak with thee from above the seat of reconciliation, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the sons of Israel.

² In the day of the first month, the first of the month shalt thou set up the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the testimony.

¹⁷ And it came to pass in the first month in the second year on the first day of the month that the tabernacle was raised up.

¹ ¶ And the LORD called unto Moses, and spoke unto him out of the tabernacle of the testimony, saying,

³⁴ These are the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the sons of Israel in Mount Sinai.

¹ ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai in the first month of the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

¹¹ ¶ And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony. ¹² And the sons of Israel moved out of the wilderness of Sinai, and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Paran.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass in the year four hundred and eighty after the sons of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of the beginning of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.

¹ ¶ And Jacob called unto his sons and said, Gather yourselves together that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days. ² Gather yourselves together and hear, ye sons of Jacob, and hearken unto Israel your father. ³ Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, principal in dignity, and the principal in power.

¹ ¶ Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt with Jacob; each one came in with his household. ² Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, ³ Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, ⁴ Dan and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. ⁵ And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls: for Joseph was in Egypt already.

¹⁴ ¶ These are the heads of their fathers’ families: The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Enoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi; these are the families of Reuben. ¹⁵ And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Saul the son of a Canaanite woman; these are the families of Simeon. ¹⁶ And these are the names of the sons of Levi according to their lineages: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. And the years of the life of Levi were one hundred thirty-seven years. ¹⁷ The sons of Gershon: Libni, and Shimi, according to their families. ¹⁸ And the sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. And the years of the life of Kohath were one hundred thirty-three years. ¹⁹ And the sons of Merari: Mahali and Mushi; these are the families of Levi according to their lineages.

¹² When thou takest the number of the sons of Israel after the sum of them, each one shall give a ransom for his soul unto the LORD, when thou dost number them, that there be no mortality in them because of numbering them.

²⁶ A half per head, that is, half a shekel, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, for every one that went to be numbered, from twenty years old and upward, which were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.

¹⁸ and they assembled all the congregation together on the first of the second month, and they were gathered by their lineages, by the houses of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, by their polls,

⁶³ ¶ These are those that were numbered by Moses and Eleazar, the priest, who numbered the sons of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan of Jericho. ⁶⁴ And among these there was not a man of those whom Moses and Aaron the priest had numbered when they numbered the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai.

¹ ¶ And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he incited David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah. ² For the king said to Joab, the captain of the host, who was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel from Dan unto Beersheba and number the people that I may know the number of the people. ³ And Joab replied unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people one hundredfold to however many there are and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it, but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?

¹ ¶ And Satan stood up against Israel and provoked David to number Israel. ² And David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.

²³ But David did not number those twenty years old and under because the LORD had said he would multiply Israel like to the stars of the heavens. ²⁴ Joab, the son of Zeruiah, had begun to number, but he did not finish; and because of this, wrath fell upon Israel; and thus the number was not put in the account of the chronicles of King David.

¹⁷ And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread, for in this same day have I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore, shall ye observe this day for your ages by an ordinance forever.

¹⁴ Anyone that passes among those that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give the offering unto the LORD.

²⁹ Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness, all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me;

² Take the sum of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, from twenty years old and upward, by the houses of their fathers, all that are able to go to war in Israel.

¹¹ Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they were not perfect in following me,

¹ ¶ These are the journeys of the sons of Israel who went forth out of the land of Egypt with their hosts under the hand of Moses and Aaron.

¹⁸ And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God has given you this land to possess it; ye shall pass armed before your brethren, the sons of Israel, all that are valiant.

⁵ ¶ When a man has taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business; but he shall be free at home one year and shall cheer up his wife whom he has taken.

⁹ And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king, and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

¹³ And he had many works in the cities of Judah and men of war, mighty men of valour, in Jerusalem. ¹⁴ And these are the numbers of them according to the houses of their fathers: In Judah, princes of thousands; the prince Adnah and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valour; ¹⁵ and after him, Prince Jehohanan and with him two hundred and eighty thousand; ¹⁶ after him, Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour; ¹⁷ of Benjamin, Eliada, a mighty man of valour, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield; ¹⁸ after him, Jehozabad and with him one hundred and eighty thousand ready and prepared for the war.

¹¹ Moreover Uzziah had an army of fighting men that went out to war in companies, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel, the scribe, and Maaseiah, the governor, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s princes. ¹² The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valour were two thousand six hundred. ¹³ And under their hand was an army, a host of three hundred and seven thousand five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.

²¹ Moreover thou shalt consider out of all the people men of virtue, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness, and place princes over them, of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens.

²⁵ And Moses chose men of virtue out of all Israel and made them heads over the people, princes over thousands, over hundreds, over fifties, and over tens.

¹⁶ these were the renowned of the congregation, princes of the tribes of their fathers, captains of the thousands of Israel.

³ ¶ These shall pitch toward the sunrise, on the east: the standard of the camp of Judah throughout their hosts and the prince of the sons of Judah, Nahshon, the son of Amminadab. ⁴ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were seventy-four thousand six hundred. ⁵ Next to him shall pitch those of the tribe of Issachar and the prince of the sons of Issachar, Nethaneel, the son of Zuar. ⁶ His host, with those that were numbered thereof, were fifty-four thousand four hundred. ⁷ And the tribe of Zebulun and the prince of the sons of Zebulun, Eliab, the son of Helon. ⁸ His host, with those that were numbered thereof, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred. ⁹ All that were numbered in the camp of Judah were one hundred and eighty-six thousand four hundred, by their hosts. These shall set forth first. ¹⁰ The standard of the camp of Reuben shall be towards the Negev, by their hosts and the prince of the sons of Reuben, Elizur, the son of Shedeur. ¹¹ His host, with those that were numbered thereof, were forty-six thousand five hundred. ¹² And those which pitch by him shall be the tribe of Simeon and the prince of the sons of Simeon, Shelumiel, the son of Zurishaddai. ¹³ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred. ¹⁴ And the tribe of Gad and the prince of the sons of Gad, Eliasaph, the son of Reuel. ¹⁵ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty. ¹⁶ All that were numbered in the camp of Reuben were one hundred fifty-one thousand four hundred and fifty, by their hosts. And they shall set forth second. ¹⁷ Then shall set forward the tabernacle of the testimony, the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camps, in the manner that they encamp, so shall they set forward, each one in his place by their standards. ¹⁸ The standard of the camp of Ephraim by his hosts, on the west and the prince of the sons of Ephraim, Elishama, the son of Ammihud. ¹⁹ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were forty thousand five hundred. ²⁰ By him shall be the tribe of Manasseh and the prince of the sons of Manasseh, Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur. ²¹ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were thirty-two thousand two hundred. ²² And the tribe of Benjamin and the prince of the sons of Benjamin, Abidan, the son of Gideoni. ²³ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were thirty-five thousand four hundred. ²⁴ All that were numbered of the camp of Ephraim were one hundred and eight thousand one hundred, by their hosts. ¹⁰ ¶ And the princes offered at the dedication of the altar the day that it was anointed; even the princes offered their offering before the altar. ¹¹ And the LORD said unto Moses, They shall offer their offering, each prince on his day, at the dedication of the altar. ¹² And he that offered his offering the first day was Nahshon, the son of Amminadab, of the tribe of Judah. ¹³ And his offering was one silver charger, the weight thereof was one hundred and thirty shekels, and one silver bowl of seventy shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary; both of them were full of fine flour mingled with oil for a present; ¹⁴ one spoon of ten shekels of gold, full of incense; ¹⁵ one young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a burnt offering; ¹⁶ one he goat as the sin; ¹⁷ and for a sacrifice of peace, two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year. This was the offering of Nahshon, the son of Amminadab. ¹⁸ On the second day Nethaneel, the son of Zuar, prince of Issachar, offered. ¹⁹ He offered for his offering one silver charger, the weight thereof was one hundred and thirty shekels, one silver bowl of seventy shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary; both of them full of fine flour mingled with oil for a present; ²⁰ one spoon of gold of ten shekels, full of incense; ²¹ one young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a burnt offering; ²² one he goat as the sin; ²³ and for a sacrifice of peace: two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year. This was the offering of Nethaneel the son of Zuar. ²⁴ On the third day Eliab, the son of Helon, prince of the sons of Zebulun. ²⁵ His offering was one silver charger, the weight thereof was one hundred and thirty shekels, one silver bowl of seventy shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary; both of them full of fine flour mingled with oil for a present; ²⁶ one golden spoon of ten shekels, full of incense; ²⁷ one young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a burnt offering; ²⁸ one he goat as the sin; ²⁹ and for a sacrifice of peace: two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year. This was the offering of Eliab, the son of Helon. ³⁰ On the fourth day Elizur, the son of Shedeur, prince of the sons of Reuben. ³¹ His offering was one silver charger of the weight of one hundred and thirty shekels, one silver bowl of seventy shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mingled with oil for a present; ³² one golden spoon of ten shekels, full of incense; ³³ one young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a burnt offering; ³⁴ one he goat as the sin; ³⁵ and for a sacrifice of peace: two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year. This was the offering of Elizur, the son of Shedeur. ³⁶ On the fifth day Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai, prince of the sons of Simeon. ³⁷ His offering was one silver charger, the weight thereof was one hundred and thirty shekels, one silver bowl of seventy shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mingled with oil for a present; ³⁸ one golden spoon of ten shekels, full of incense; ³⁹ one young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a burnt offering; ⁴⁰ one he goat as the sin; ⁴¹ and for a sacrifice of peace, two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year. This was the offering of Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai. ⁴² On the sixth day Eliasaph the son of Deuel, prince of the sons of Gad. ⁴³ His offering was one silver charger of the weight of a hundred and thirty shekels, a silver bowl of seventy shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mingled with oil for a present; ⁴⁴ one golden spoon of ten shekels, full of incense; ⁴⁵ one young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a burnt offering; ⁴⁶ one kid of the goats as the sin; ⁴⁷ and for a sacrifice of peace, two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year. This was the offering of Pagiel, the son of Ocran. ⁷⁸ On the twelfth day Ahira, the son of Enan, prince of the sons of Naphtali. ⁷⁹ His offering was one silver charger, the weight thereof was one hundred and thirty shekels, one silver bowl of seventy shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, both of them full of fine flour mingled with oil for a present; ⁸⁰ one golden spoon of ten shekels, full of incense; ⁸¹ one young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, as a burnt offering; ⁸² one kid of the goats as the sin; ⁸³ and for a sacrifice of peace, two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year. This was the offering of Ahira, the son of Enan.

¹⁴ In the first place went the standard of the camp of the sons of Judah according to their armies, and over his host was Nahshon, the son of Amminadab. ¹⁵ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Issachar was Nethaneel, the son of Zuar. ¹⁶ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun was Eliab, the son of Helon. ¹⁷ And the tabernacle was already taken down, and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set forward, bearing the tabernacle. ¹⁸ Then the standard of the camp of Reuben set forward according to their armies, and over his host was Elizur, the son of Shedeur. ¹⁹ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Simeon was Shelumiel, the son of Zurishaddai. ²⁰ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Gad was Eliasaph, the son of Deuel. ²¹ Then the Kohathites set forward, bearing the sanctuary, and while they were coming, the others set up the tabernacle. ²² After them the standard of the camp of the sons of Ephraim set forward according to their armies, and over his host was Elishama, the son of Ammihud. ²³ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh was Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur. ²⁴ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin was Abidan, the son of Gideoni. ²⁵ Then the standard of the camp of the sons of Dan set forward according to their armies, gathering together all the camps, and over his host was Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai. ²⁶ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Asher was Pagiel, the son of Ocran. ²⁷ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali was Ahira, the son of Enan.

² Send thou men that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the sons of Israel; of every tribe of their fathers ye shall send a man, each one a prince among them. ³ And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran; all those men were princes of the sons of Israel. ⁴ And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua, the son of Zaccur. ⁵ Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat, the son of Hori. ⁶ Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb, the son of Jephunneh. ⁷ Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal, the son of Joseph. ⁸ Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hosea, the son of Nun. ⁹ Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti, the son of Raphu. ¹⁰ Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel, the son of Sodi. ¹¹ Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi, the son of Susi. ¹² Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel, the son of Gemalli. ¹³ Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur, the son of Michael. ¹⁴ Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi, the son of Vophsi. ¹⁵ Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel, the son of Machi.

³ And thou shalt write Aaron’s name upon the rod of Levi, for each head of family of their fathers shall have one rod.

⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the princes of the people and disjoint them before the LORD hanging them from a tree against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.

¹⁴ Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianite, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a family of the tribe of Simeon.

¹⁸ And ye shall take one prince of every tribe to divide the possession of the land. ¹⁹ And the names of the men are these: Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb, the son of Jephunneh. ²⁰ And of the tribe of the sons of Simeon, Shemuel, the son of Ammihud. ²¹ Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad, the son of Chislon. ²² And the of the tribe of the sons of Dan, the prince Bukki, the son of Jogli. ²³ Of the sons of Joseph: of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh, the prince Hanniel, the son of Ephod. ²⁴ And of the tribe of the sons of Ephraim, the prince Kemuel, the son of Shiphtan. ²⁵ And of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun, the prince Elizaphan, the son of Parnach. ²⁶ And of the tribe of the sons of Issachar, the prince Paltiel, the son of Azzan. ²⁷ And of the tribe of the sons of Asher, the prince Ahihud, the son of Shelomi. ²⁸ And of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali, the prince Pedahel, the son of Ammihud.

¹⁵ So I took the principals of your tribes, wise men and experts, and made them princes over you, princes over thousands and princes over hundreds and princes over fifties and princes over tens and officers among your tribes.

¹⁴ and with him ten princes, of each chief house a prince throughout all the tribes of Israel; and each one was the head of the house of their fathers among the thousands of Israel.

¹ ¶ Now the sons of Israel after their number, who were chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, who came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, each course was of twenty-four thousand. ² Over the first course for the first month was Jashobeam, the son of Zabdiel, and in his course were twenty-four thousand. ³ Of the sons of Perez was the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month. ⁴ And over the course of the second month was Dodai, an Ahohite, and in his course was prince Mikloth; in his course likewise were twenty-four thousand. ⁵ The third captain of the host for the third month was Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, a chief priest: and in his course were twenty-four thousand. ⁶ This is that Benaiah, who was mighty among the thirty, and above the thirty; and in his course was Ammizabad, his son. ⁷ The fourth for the fourth month was Asahel, the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. ⁸ The fifth for the fifth month was prince Shamhuth, the Izrahite; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. ⁹ The sixth for the sixth month was Ira, the son of Ikkesh of Tekoah; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁰ The seventh for the seventh month was Helez, the Pelonite, of the sons of Ephraim; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. ¹¹ The eighth for the eighth month was Sibbecai, the Hushathite, of Zarhi; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. ¹² The ninth for the ninth month was Abiezer, the Anetothite, of the Benjamites; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. ¹³ The tenth for the tenth month was Maharai, the Netophathite of Zarhi; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁴ The eleventh for the eleventh month was Benaiah, the Pirathonite, of the sons of Ephraim; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁵ The twelfth for the twelfth month was Heldai, the Netophathite of Othniel; and in his course were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁶ ¶ Presiding, likewise, over the tribes of Israel: over the Reubenites was prince Eliezer, the son of Zichri; over the Simeonites, Shephatiah, the son of Maachah. ¹⁷ Over the Levites, Hashabiah, the son of Kemuel. Over the Aaronites, Zadok. ¹⁸ Over Judah, Elihu, one of the brethren of David. Over those of Issachar, Omri, the son of Michael. ¹⁹ Over those of Zebulun, Ishmaiah, the son of Obadiah. Over those of Naphtali, Jerimoth, the son of Azriel. ²⁰ Over the sons of Ephraim, Hosea, the son of Azaziah. Over the half tribe of Manasseh, Joel, the son of Pedaiah. ²¹ Over the other half tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo, the son of Zechariah. Over those of Benjamin, Jaasiel, the son of Abner. ²² And over Dan, Azareel, the son of Jeroham. These were the princes of the tribes of Israel.

³² And Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said, Surely the LORD has looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me. ³³ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son; and said, Because the LORD has heard that I was hated, he has therefore given me this son also; and she called his name Simeon. ³⁴ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me because I have born him three sons; therefore his name was called Levi. ³⁵ And she conceived again and gave birth a son; and she said, Now I will praise the LORD; therefore she called his name Judah and stopped bearing children.

⁵ And Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a son unto Jacob. ⁶ And Rachel said, God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son. Therefore she called his name Dan. ⁷ And Bilhah Rachel’s maid conceived again and gave birth to a second son unto Jacob. ⁸ And Rachel said, With great wrestlings I have wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed; and she called his name Naphtali. ⁹ When Leah saw that she had stopped bearing children, she took Zilpah, her maid and gave her Jacob to wife. ¹⁰ And Zilpah, Leah’s maid, gave birth to a son unto Jacob. ¹¹ And Leah said, Good venture has come; and she called his name Gad. ¹² And Zilpah, Leah’s maid, gave birth to a second son unto Jacob. ¹³ And Leah said, Blessed am I, for the daughters will call me blessed; and she called his name Asher. ¹⁴ ¶ And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest and found mandrakes in the field and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son’s mandrakes. ¹⁵ And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that thou hast taken my husband and would thou take away my son’s mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee to night for thy son’s mandrakes. ¹⁶ And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him and said, Thou must come in unto me; for surely I have hired thee with my son’s mandrakes. And he lay with her that night. ¹⁷ And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived and gave birth to a fifth son unto Jacob. ¹⁸ And Leah said, God has given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband; and she called his name Issachar. ¹⁹ And Leah conceived again and gave birth to the sixth son unto Jacob. ²⁰ And Leah said, God has endued me with a good dowry; now my husband will dwell with me because I have born him six sons; and she called his name Zebulun.

¹⁷ And it came to pass when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also. ¹⁸ And it came to pass as her soul was departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni, but his father called him Benjamin. ¹⁹ Thus Rachel died and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem. ²⁰ And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave; that is the pillar of Rachel’s grave unto this day. ²¹ ¶ And Israel journeyed and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar. ²² And it came to pass when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve: ²³ The sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun. ²⁴ The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin. ²⁵ And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid: Dan and Naphtali. ²⁶ And the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid: Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Padanaram.

⁸ And these are the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn. ⁹ And the sons of Reuben: Enoch, Phallu, Hezron, and Carmi. ¹⁰ And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Saul the son of a Canaanite woman. ¹¹ And the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ¹² And the sons of Judah: Er and Onan and Shelah and Pharez and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Pharez were Hezron and Hamul. ¹³ And the sons of Issachar: Tola, Phuvah, Job, and Shimron. ¹⁴ And the sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel. ¹⁵ These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore unto Jacob in Padanaram, with his daughter Dinah; all the souls of his sons and his daughters were thirty-three. ¹⁶ And the sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli. ¹⁷ And the sons of Asher: Jimnah, Ishuah, Isui, Beriah, and Serah, their sister. The sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel. ¹⁸ These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and these she gave birth unto Jacob: sixteen souls. ¹⁹ The sons of Rachel, Jacob’s wife: Joseph and Benjamin. ²⁰ And unto Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On gave birth unto him. ²¹ And the sons of Benjamin were Belah, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. ²² These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob, in all, fourteen souls. ²³ And the sons of Dan: Hushim. ²⁴ And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.

¹ ¶ And Jacob called unto his sons and said, Gather yourselves together that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days. ² Gather yourselves together and hear, ye sons of Jacob, and hearken unto Israel your father. ³ Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, principal in dignity, and the principal in power. ⁴ Unstable as water, thou shalt not be principal because thou didst go up to thy father’s bed; then thou became defiled, going up to my couch. ⁵ ¶ Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of injustice are their weapons. ⁶ Let my soul not enter into their secret; nor let my honour join their assembly; for in their anger they slew a man, and in their own will they dug down a wall. ⁷ Cursed be their anger, which is strong, and their wrath, which is hard; I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel. ⁸ ¶ Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise; thy hand shall be on the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s sons shall bow down before thee. ⁹ Judah is a lion’s whelp; from the prey, my son, thou art gone up; he stooped down, he couched as a lion and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? ¹⁰ The sceptre shall not be taken from Judah, nor the lawgiver from between his feet until Shiloh comes; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. ¹¹ Binding his foal unto the vine and his ass’s colt unto the choice roots; he washed his garments in wine and his covering in the blood of grapes; ¹² His eyes red with wine, and his teeth white with milk. ¹³ ¶ Zebulun shall dwell at the port of the sea; and he shall be for a port of ships; and his border shall be unto Zidon. ¹⁴ Issachar is a strong ass couching down between two burdens; ¹⁵ and he saw that rest was good and the land that it was pleasant and bowed his shoulder to bear and became a servant unto tribute. ¹⁶ Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. ¹⁷ Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that bites the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward. ¹⁸ I have waited for thy saving health, O LORD. ¹⁹ Gad, an army shall invade him, but he shall invade at the last. ²⁰ Out of Asher his bread shall be fat, and he shall yield delight unto the king. ²¹ Naphtali is a hind let loose, who shall give forth a good word. ²² ¶ Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a fountain, whose daughters run over the wall. ²³ The arches have sorely grieved him and shot at him and hated him; ²⁴ but his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the Mighty one of Jacob; from there did the stone of Israel shepherd, ²⁵ by the God of thy father, who shall help thee, and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of the heavens above, with blessings of the deep that lies under, with blessings of the breasts and of the womb. ²⁶ The blessings of thy father were greater than the blessings of my progenitors; unto the borders of the eternal hills they shall be upon the head of Joseph and on the crown of the Nazarite of his brethren. ²⁷ Benjamin, ravening wolf: in the morning he shall devour the prey, and in the evening he shall divide the spoil. ²⁸ ¶ All these were the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke unto them and blessed them; each one according to his blessing he blessed them. ²⁹ And he charged them and said unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron, the Hittite, ³⁰ in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron, the Hittite for a possession of a buryingplace. ³¹ There they buried Abraham and Sarah, his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah, his wife; and there I buried Leah. ³² The purchase of the field and of the cave that is therein was from the sons of Heth. ³³ And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed and expired and was gathered unto his people.

¹⁰ The standard of the camp of Reuben shall be towards the Negev, by their hosts and the prince of the sons of Reuben, Elizur, the son of Shedeur.

¹⁸ Then the standard of the camp of Reuben set forward according to their armies, and over his host was Elizur, the son of Shedeur.

¹ ¶ And this is the blessing, with which Moses the man of God blessed the sons of Israel before his death. ² And he said, The LORD came from Sinai and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from Mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of holiness, at his right hand the law of fire for them. ³ Yea, he loved the peoples; all his saints are in thy hand; they also united at thy feet; they received thy words. ⁴ Moses commanded us law as inheritance unto the congregation of Jacob. ⁵ And he was king in Jeshurun when the heads of the people, the tribes of Israel, were gathered together as one. ⁶ ¶ Let Reuben live and not die, and let not his men be few. ⁷ And this blessing is for Judah, and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people; let his hands be sufficient for him, and be thou a help to him from his enemies. ⁸ ¶ And to Levi he said, Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah and with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah, ⁹ who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen them; neither did he acknowledge his brethren nor know his own children; therefore, they shall keep thy word and guard thy covenant. ¹⁰ They shall teach Jacob thy judgments and Israel thy law; they shall put incense before thy nostrils and a perfect sacrifice upon thine altar. ¹¹ Bless, O LORD, his ministry, {Heb. men of valour} and take pleasure in the work of his hands; smite through the loins of those that rise up against him and of those that hate him that they may never rise again. ¹² ¶ And to Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; and the LORD shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders. ¹³ And to Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD is his land, for the gifts of the heavens, for the dew, and for the deep that is stretched out beneath, ¹⁴ and for the gifts of the fruits of the sun and for the gifts of the influence of the moon, ¹⁵ and for the summit of the ancient mountains and for the gifts of the everlasting hills, ¹⁶ and for the gifts of the earth and fullness thereof, and may the grace of him that dwelt in the bush come upon the head of Joseph and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren. ¹⁷ His beauty is like the firstborn of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns; with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth; these are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and these are the thousands of Manasseh. ¹⁸ ¶ And to Zebulun he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out; and thou, Issachar, in thy tents. ¹⁹ They shall call the people unto the mountain; there they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness; therefore they shall suck the abundance of the seas and hidden treasures of the sand. ²⁰ And to Gad he said, Blessed is he that caused Gad to be enlarged; he shall dwell as a lion and shall tear the arm with the crown of the head. ²¹ And he saw the best for himself because there the portion of the lawgiver was enclosed; and he came at the head of the people; he shall execute the righteousness of the LORD and his judgments with Israel. ²² ¶ And to Dan he said, Dan is a lion’s whelp; he shall leap from Bashan. ²³ And to Naphtali he said, Naphtali, filled with grace and full of the blessing of the LORD, shall inherit the west and the Negev. ²⁴ And to Asher he said, Asher, more blessed than the sons, shall be acceptable unto his brethren and shall dip his foot in oil. ²⁵ Thy locks shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be. ²⁶ ¶ There is no other like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rides upon the heavens for thy help, in the clouds with his excellency. ²⁷ The habitation of God is eternal, and underneath the everlasting arms; he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee and shall say, Destroy them. ²⁸ Then Israel, the fountain of Jacob, shall dwell in safety alone in a land of grain and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew. ²⁹ Blessed art thou, O Israel, who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help and the sword of thy excellency? Thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee, and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

⁴ And I heard the number of those that were sealed: and there were sealed a hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the sons of Israel. ⁵ Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. ⁶ Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Naphtali were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. ⁷ Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. ⁸ Of the tribe of Zebulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

¹² And those which pitch by him shall be the tribe of Simeon and the prince of the sons of Simeon, Shelumiel, the son of Zurishaddai.

³⁶ On the fifth day Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai, prince of the sons of Simeon.

³ ¶ These shall pitch toward the sunrise, on the east: the standard of the camp of Judah throughout their hosts and the prince of the sons of Judah, Nahshon, the son of Amminadab.

¹² And he that offered his offering the first day was Nahshon, the son of Amminadab, of the tribe of Judah.

¹⁴ In the first place went the standard of the camp of the sons of Judah according to their armies, and over his host was Nahshon, the son of Amminadab.

¹⁸ Now these are the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,

²⁰ and Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,

¹⁰ And Ram begat Amminadab, and Amminadab begat Nahshon, prince of the sons of Judah; ¹¹ And Nahshon begat Salma, and Salma begat Boaz,

² Abraham begat Isaac; Isaac begat Jacob; Jacob begat Judas and his brothers; ³ Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; Phares begat Esrom; Esrom begat Aram; ⁴ Aram begat Aminadab; Aminadab begat Naasson; Naasson begat Salmon; ⁵ Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; Booz begat Obed of Ruth; Obed begat Jesse;

³² who was the son of Jesse, who was the son of Obed, who was the son of Booz, who was the son of Salmon, who was the son of Naasson,

⁵ Next to him shall pitch those of the tribe of Issachar and the prince of the sons of Issachar, Nethaneel, the son of Zuar.

¹⁸ On the second day Nethaneel, the son of Zuar, prince of Issachar, offered.

¹⁵ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Issachar was Nethaneel, the son of Zuar.

⁷ And the tribe of Zebulun and the prince of the sons of Zebulun, Eliab, the son of Helon.

²⁴ On the third day Eliab, the son of Helon, prince of the sons of Zebulun.

¹⁶ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun was Eliab, the son of Helon.

¹⁸ The standard of the camp of Ephraim by his hosts, on the west and the prince of the sons of Ephraim, Elishama, the son of Ammihud.

²⁰ By him shall be the tribe of Manasseh and the prince of the sons of Manasseh, Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur.

⁴⁸ On the seventh day Elishama, the son of Ammihud, prince of the sons of Ephraim.

⁵⁴ On the eighth day Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur, prince of the sons of Manasseh.

²² After them the standard of the camp of the sons of Ephraim set forward according to their armies, and over his host was Elishama, the son of Ammihud. ²³ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh was Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur.

²⁶ Laadan, his son, Ammihud, his son, Elishama, his son, ²⁷ Nun, his son, Joshua, his son.

²² And the tribe of Benjamin and the prince of the sons of Benjamin, Abidan, the son of Gideoni.

⁶⁰ On the ninth day Abidan, the son of Gideoni, prince of the sons of Benjamin.

²⁴ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin was Abidan, the son of Gideoni.

²⁵ The standard of the camp of Dan shall be on the Aquilon by their hosts and the prince of the sons of Dan, Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai.

⁶⁶ On the tenth day Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai, prince of the sons of Dan.

²⁵ Then the standard of the camp of the sons of Dan set forward according to their armies, gathering together all the camps, and over his host was Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai.

²⁷ Next to him shall camp those of the tribe of Asher and the prince of the sons of Asher, Pagiel, the son of Ocran.

⁷² On the eleventh day Pagiel, the son of Ocran, prince of the sons of Asher.

²⁶ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Asher was Pagiel, the son of Ocran.

¹⁴ And the tribe of Gad and the prince of the sons of Gad, Eliasaph, the son of Reuel.

⁴² On the sixth day Eliasaph the son of Deuel, prince of the sons of Gad.

²⁰ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Gad was Eliasaph, the son of Deuel.

²⁹ And the tribe of Naphtali and the prince of the sons of Naphtali, Ahira, the son of Enan.

⁷⁸ On the twelfth day Ahira, the son of Enan, prince of the sons of Naphtali.

²⁷ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali was Ahira, the son of Enan.

⁴ And with you there shall be a man of every tribe, every one head of the house of his fathers.

² that the princes of Israel, heads of the houses of their fathers, who were the princes of the tribes, and were over those that were numbered, offered;

¹⁷ And I will come down and talk with thee there, and I will take of the spirit which is in thee and will put it upon them, and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.

² and they rose up against Moses, with two hundred and fifty men of the sons of Israel, princes of the congregation, of the council, men of renown;

⁹ And the sons of Eliab: Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram. This is that Dathan and Abiram, who were famous in the congregation, who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they strove against the LORD.

¹⁵ Then he replied unto him, Oh my Lord, with what shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.

⁷ then Saul said unto his slaves that stood about him, Hear now, ye sons of Jemini, will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards and make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds

²³ See, therefore, and take knowledge of all the hiding places where he hides himself and come again to me with the certainty, and I will go with you; and it shall come to pass, if he is in the land that I will search him out with all the thousands of Judah.

² But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be Lord in Israel; and his goings forth are from the beginning, from the days of the ages.

⁵ And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben, Elizur, the son of Shedeur; ⁶ of Simeon, Shelumiel, the son of Zurishaddai; ⁷ of Judah, Nahshon, the son of Amminadab; ⁸ of Issachar, Nethaneel, the son of Zuar; ⁹ of Zebulun, Eliab, the son of Helon; ¹⁰ of the sons of Joseph, of Ephraim, Elishama, the son of Ammihud; of Manasseh, Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur; ¹¹ of Benjamin, Abidan, the son of Gideoni; ¹² of Dan, Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai; ¹³ of Asher, Pagiel, the son of Ocran; ¹⁴ of Gad, Eliasaph, the son of Deuel; ¹⁵ of Naphtali, Ahira, the son of Enan;

³ To him the porter opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand. ⁹ After this I saw, and, behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations and kindreds and peoples and tongues stood before the throne and before the Lamb clothed with long white robes and palms in their hands ¹⁰ and cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation unto him who is seated upon the throne of our God and unto the Lamb. ¹¹ And all the angels stood round about the throne and about the elders and the four animals; and they fell upon their faces before the throne and worshipped God, ¹² saying, Amen: The blessing and the glory and the wisdom and the thanksgiving and the honour and the power and the might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen. ¹³ ¶ And one of the elders responded and asked me, Who are these who are arrayed in long white robes? and where did they come from? ¹⁴ And I said unto him, lord, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are those who came out of great tribulation and have washed their long robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple, and he that is seated on the throne shall dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun be thrust upon them nor any other heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall govern them and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters, and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

¹ ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the testimony, on the first of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

⁵⁹ And these were those which went up from Telmelah, Telharsa, Cherub, Addan, and Immer, but they could not show their father’s house and their seed, whether they were of Israel.

⁶¹ And these were they which came up also from Telmelah, Telharesha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer; but they could not show their father’s house, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel.

³ without father, without mother, without lineage, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life, but made like unto the Son of God; abides a priest continually.

⁶ but he whose descent is not counted in those took tithes from Abraham and blessed him that had the promises.

² Take the sum of all the congregation of the sons of Israel by their families, by the houses of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls,

¹ ¶ And it came to pass after the plague that the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saying, ² Take the sum of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, from twenty years old and upward, by the houses of their fathers, all that are able to go to war in Israel.

¹ ¶ And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he incited David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah. ² For the king said to Joab, the captain of the host, who was with him, Go now through all the tribes of Israel from Dan unto Beersheba and number the people that I may know the number of the people. ³ And Joab replied unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people one hundredfold to however many there are and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it, but why does my lord the king delight in this thing? ⁴ Notwithstanding, the king’s word prevailed against Joab and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel. ⁵ And passing the Jordan, they pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lies in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer. ⁶ After that they came to Gilead and to the land of Tahtimhodshi, and they came to Danjaan and about to Zidon. ⁷ Then they came to the fortress of Tyre and to all the cities of the Hivites and of the Canaanites, and they went out towards the Negev from Judah, even to Beersheba. ⁸ So when they had gone through all the land, they returned to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. ⁹ And Joab gave up the sum of the number of the people unto the king, and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men. ¹⁰ ¶ And David’s heart smote him after he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in having done this; but now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy slave, for I have done very foolishly.

³² And Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said, Surely the LORD has looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.

⁹ And the sons of Reuben: Enoch, Phallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

³ Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, principal in dignity, and the principal in power. ⁴ Unstable as water, thou shalt not be principal because thou didst go up to thy father’s bed; then thou became defiled, going up to my couch.

¹⁰ The standard of the camp of Reuben shall be towards the Negev, by their hosts and the prince of the sons of Reuben, Elizur, the son of Shedeur. ¹¹ His host, with those that were numbered thereof, were forty-six thousand five hundred.

⁵ ¶ Reuben, firstborn of Israel; the sons of Reuben: Enoch, of whom was the family of the Enochites; of Pallu, the family of the Palluites; ⁶ of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Carmi, the family of the Carmites. ⁷ These are the families of the Reubenites; and those numbered were forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty.

¹ ¶ Now the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn, but because he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel; and he was not counted as the firstborn.

⁷ These are the families of the Reubenites; and those numbered were forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty.

³³ And she conceived again and gave birth to a son; and said, Because the LORD has heard that I was hated, he has therefore given me this son also; and she called his name Simeon.

²⁵ ¶ And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brethren, took each man his sword and came upon the city boldly and slew all the males. ²⁶ And they slew Hamor and Shechem, his son, with the edge of the sword and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house, and went out. ²⁷ The sons of Jacob came upon the slain and spoiled the city because they had defiled their sister. ²⁸ They took their sheep and their oxen and their asses and that which was in the city and that which was in the field ²⁹ and all their wealth and all their little ones and their wives they took captive and spoiled even all that was in the house. ³⁰ And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.

²⁴ And he turned himself about from them and wept and returned to them again and spoke with them and took Simeon from them and bound him before their eyes.

¹⁰ And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Saul the son of a Canaanite woman.

⁵ ¶ Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of injustice are their weapons. ⁶ Let my soul not enter into their secret; nor let my honour join their assembly; for in their anger they slew a man, and in their own will they dug down a wall.

¹² The sons of Simeon by their families: of Nemuel, the family of the Nemuelites; of Jamin, the family of the Jaminites; of Jachin, the family of the Jachinites; ¹³ of Zerah, the family of the Zarhites; of Saul, the family of the Shaulites. ¹⁴ These are the families of the Simeonites, twenty-two thousand two hundred.

¹³ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred.

⁸ and he went after the man of Israel into the tent and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. So the plague of the sons of Israel was stayed. ⁹ And those that died in that plague were twenty-four thousand.

¹⁴ These are the families of the Simeonites, twenty-two thousand two hundred.

¹⁰ And Zilpah, Leah’s maid, gave birth to a son unto Jacob. ¹¹ And Leah said, Good venture has come; and she called his name Gad.

¹⁶ And the sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli.

¹⁹ Gad, an army shall invade him, but he shall invade at the last.

¹⁴ And the tribe of Gad and the prince of the sons of Gad, Eliasaph, the son of Reuel. ¹⁵ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.

¹⁵ The sons of Gad by their families: of Zephon, the family of the Zephonites; of Haggi, the family of the Haggites; of Shuni, the family of the Shunites; ¹⁶ of Ozni, the family of the Oznites; of Eri, the family of the Erites; ¹⁷ of Arod, the family of the Arodites; of Areli, the family of the Arelites. ¹⁸ These are the families of the sons of Gad according to those numbered, forty thousand five hundred.

¹⁵ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.

³⁵ And she conceived again and gave birth a son; and she said, Now I will praise the LORD; therefore she called his name Judah and stopped bearing children.

¹² And the sons of Judah: Er and Onan and Shelah and Pharez and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. And the sons of Pharez were Hezron and Hamul.

⁸ ¶ Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise; thy hand shall be on the neck of thine enemies; thy father’s sons shall bow down before thee. ⁹ Judah is a lion’s whelp; from the prey, my son, thou art gone up; he stooped down, he couched as a lion and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? ¹⁰ The sceptre shall not be taken from Judah, nor the lawgiver from between his feet until Shiloh comes; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be. ¹¹ Binding his foal unto the vine and his ass’s colt unto the choice roots; he washed his garments in wine and his covering in the blood of grapes; ¹² His eyes red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.

³ ¶ These shall pitch toward the sunrise, on the east: the standard of the camp of Judah throughout their hosts and the prince of the sons of Judah, Nahshon, the son of Amminadab. ⁴ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were seventy-four thousand six hundred.

¹⁹ The sons of Judah: Er and Onan; and Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. ²⁰ And the sons of Judah by their families: of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites; of Pharez, the family of the Pharzites; of Zerah, the family of the Zarhites. ²¹ And the sons of Pharez: of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Hamul, the family of the Hamulites. ²² These are the families of Judah according to those numbered, seventy-six thousand five hundred.

¹⁴ And these are the numbers of them according to the houses of their fathers: In Judah, princes of thousands; the prince Adnah and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valour; ¹⁵ and after him, Prince Jehohanan and with him two hundred and eighty thousand; ¹⁶ after him, Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour;

¹⁸ And Leah said, God has given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband; and she called his name Issachar.

¹³ And the sons of Issachar: Tola, Phuvah, Job, and Shimron.

¹⁴ Issachar is a strong ass couching down between two burdens; ¹⁵ and he saw that rest was good and the land that it was pleasant and bowed his shoulder to bear and became a servant unto tribute.

⁵ Next to him shall pitch those of the tribe of Issachar and the prince of the sons of Issachar, Nethaneel, the son of Zuar. ⁶ His host, with those that were numbered thereof, were fifty-four thousand four hundred.

²³ Because there is no enchantment in Jacob, neither is there any divination in Israel. According to this time, it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What God has made! ²⁴ Behold the people, who shall rise up as a great lion and lift up himself as a young lion; he shall not lie down until he eats of the prey and drinks the blood of the slain. ²⁵ Then Balak said unto Balaam, Now that you do not curse them, do not bless them either.

²³ The sons of Issachar by their families: of Tola, the family of the Tolaites; of Pua, the family of the Punites; ²⁴ of Jashub, the family of the Jashubites; of Shimron, the family of the Shimronites. ²⁵ These are the families of Issachar according to those numbered, sixty-four thousand three hundred.

²⁰ And Leah said, God has endued me with a good dowry; now my husband will dwell with me because I have born him six sons; and she called his name Zebulun.

¹⁴ And the sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon, and Jahleel.

¹³ ¶ Zebulun shall dwell at the port of the sea; and he shall be for a port of ships; and his border shall be unto Zidon.

⁷ And the tribe of Zebulun and the prince of the sons of Zebulun, Eliab, the son of Helon. ⁸ His host, with those that were numbered thereof, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.

²⁶ The sons of Zebulun after their families: of Sered, the family of the Sardites; of Elon, the family of the Elonites; of Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites. ²⁷ These are the families of the Zebulunites according to those numbered, sixty thousand five hundred.

⁸ His host, with those that were numbered thereof, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.

²⁴ and she called his name Joseph, saying, Let the LORD add unto me another son.

¹ ¶ And Jacob dwelt in the land in which his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan. ² These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah and with the sons of Zilpah, his father’s wives; and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report. ³ Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his other sons because he was the son of his old age, and he made him a coat of many colours. ⁴ And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him and could not speak peaceably unto him. ⁵ ¶ And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brethren; and they hated him yet the more. ⁶ And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed: ⁷ For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about and made obeisance to my sheaf. ⁸ And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us? Or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams and for his words. ⁹ And he dreamed yet another dream and told it to his brethren, saying, Behold, I have dreamed another dream; and, behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars made obeisance to me. ¹⁰ And he told it to his father and to his brethren; and his father reprehended him and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? ¹¹ And his brethren envied him; but his father kept the word. ¹² ¶ And his brethren went to feed their father’s sheep in Shechem. ¹³ And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the sheep in Shechem? Come and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I. ¹⁴ And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it is well with thy brethren and well with the sheep and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem. ¹⁵ And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field; and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou? ¹⁶ And he said, I seek my brethren; tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks. ¹⁷ And the man said, They are departed from here; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren and found them in Dothan. ¹⁸ And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. ¹⁹ And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer comes; ²⁰ now therefore, come and let us slay him and cast him into a cistern, and we will say, Some evil beast has devoured him; and we shall see what will become of his dreams. ²¹ When Reuben heard it, he delivered him out of their hands and said, Let us not kill him. ²² And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood but cast him into this cistern that is in the wilderness and lay no hand upon him that he might rid him out of their hands to deliver him to his father again. ²³ ¶ And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stripped Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him; ²⁴ and they took him and cast him into the cistern; and the pit was empty, there was no water in it. ²⁵ And they sat down to eat bread; and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing aromas and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt. ²⁶ Then Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother and conceal his blood? ²⁷ Come and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content. ²⁸ And when the Midianite merchantmen passed by, they took and lifted up Joseph out of the cistern and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph into Egypt. ²⁹ And Reuben returned unto the cistern; and, behold, Joseph was not inside, and he rent his clothes. ³⁰ And he returned unto his brethren and said, The young man is not; and I, where shall I go? ³¹ ¶ Then they took Joseph’s coat and killed a kid of the goats and dipped the coat in the blood; ³² and they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father and said, We have found this, recognize now whether it is thy son’s coat or not. ³³ And he knew it and said, It is my son’s coat; an evil beast has devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces. ³⁴ Then Jacob rent his clothes and put sackcloth upon his loins and mourned for his son many days. ³⁵ And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted, and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him. ³⁶ And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s and captain of the guard.

¹ ¶ And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the hands of the Ishmeelites, who had brought him down there. ² But the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prospered man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. ³ And his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. ⁴ So Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him; and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. ⁵ And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house and in the field. ⁶ And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and with him knew of nothing more than of the bread which he ate. And Joseph was handsome and well favoured. ⁷ ¶ And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. ⁸ But he refused and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand; ⁹ there is none greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back anything from me but thee because thou art his wife; how then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God? ¹⁰ And it came to pass as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not hearken unto her, to lie by her or to be with her. ¹¹ And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business, and none of those of the house were there within. ¹² And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me; and he left his garment in her hand and fled and got outside. ¹³ ¶ And it came to pass when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled forth, ¹⁴ that she called unto those of her house and spoke unto them, saying, See, he has brought in a Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice; ¹⁵ and it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me and fled and left. ¹⁶ And she laid up his garment by her until his lord came home. ¹⁷ And she spoke unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew slave, whom thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to dishonour me; ¹⁸ and when I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment with me and fled out. ¹⁹ ¶ And it came to pass when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke unto him, saying, After this manner did thy slave treat me, that his wrath was kindled. ²⁰ And Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound; and he was there in the prison. ²¹ But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him mercy and gave him grace in the sight of the prince of the house of the prison. ²² And the prince of the house of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatever they did there, he was the doer of it. ²³ The prince of the prison looked not to anything that was under his hand because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.

²⁰ And unto Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On gave birth unto him.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass after these things that it was told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick; and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. ² And one told Jacob and said, Behold, thy son Joseph comes unto thee. Then Israel strengthened himself and sat upon the bed ³ and said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me ⁴ and said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of peoples and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession. ⁵ And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, who were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine. ⁶ And those whom thou hast begotten after them shall be thine and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance. ⁷ Because when I came from Padanaram, Rachel died unto me in the land of Canaan in the way when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath; and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath, which is Bethlehem. ⁸ ¶ And Israel beheld Joseph’s sons and said, Who are these? ⁹ And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God has given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them. ¹⁰ Now the eyes of Israel were so dim for age that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him, and he kissed them and embraced them. ¹¹ And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face, and, behold, God has showed me also thy seed. ¹² Then Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth. ¹³ And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel’s left hand and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel’s right hand and brought them near unto him. ¹⁴ Then Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it upon Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands with understanding; for Manasseh was the firstborn. ¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has fed me all my life long unto this day, ¹⁶ the Angel who frees me from all evil, bless these young men, and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth. ¹⁷ Then Joseph seeing that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him; and he held up his father’s hand, to remove it from Ephraim’s head unto Manasseh’s head. ¹⁸ And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father, for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head. ¹⁹ And his father refused and said, I know it, my son, I know it; he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great; but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of Gentiles. ²⁰ And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh. And he set Ephraim before Manasseh. ²¹ And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die; but God shall be with you and bring you again unto the land of your fathers. ²² Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.

²² ¶ Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a fountain, whose daughters run over the wall. ²³ The arches have sorely grieved him and shot at him and hated him; ²⁴ but his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the Mighty one of Jacob; from there did the stone of Israel shepherd, ²⁵ by the God of thy father, who shall help thee, and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of the heavens above, with blessings of the deep that lies under, with blessings of the breasts and of the womb. ²⁶ The blessings of thy father were greater than the blessings of my progenitors; unto the borders of the eternal hills they shall be upon the head of Joseph and on the crown of the Nazarite of his brethren.

¹⁸ The standard of the camp of Ephraim by his hosts, on the west and the prince of the sons of Ephraim, Elishama, the son of Ammihud. ¹⁹ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were forty thousand five hundred.

³⁵ These are the sons of Ephraim by their families: of Shuthelah, the family of the Shuthalhites; of Becher, the family of the Bachrites; of Tahan, the family of the Tahanites. ³⁶ And these are the sons of Shuthelah: of Eran, the family of the Eranites. ³⁷ These are the families of the sons of Ephraim according to those numbered, thirty-two thousand five hundred. These are the sons of Joseph by their families.

¹⁷ His beauty is like the firstborn of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns; with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth; these are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and these are the thousands of Manasseh.

⁵ And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, who were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.

²⁸ The sons of Joseph by their families: Manasseh and Ephraim. ²⁹ The sons of Manasseh: of Machir, the family of the Machirites; and Machir begat Gilead; of Gilead comes the family of the Gileadites. ³⁰ These are the sons of Gilead: of Jeezer, the family of the Jeezerites; of Helek, the family of the Helekites; ³¹ of Asriel, the family of the Asrielites; of Shechem, the family of the Shechemites; ³² of Shemida, the family of the Shemidaites; and of Hepher, the family of the Hepherites. ³³ And Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, had no sons, but daughters; and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were Mahlah and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. ³⁴ These are the families of Manasseh, and those numbered of them, fifty-two thousand seven hundred.

¹⁹ And his father refused and said, I know it, my son, I know it; he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great; but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of Gentiles. ²⁰ And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh. ¹⁶ ¶ And they journeyed from Bethel, and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath when Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour. ¹⁷ And it came to pass when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also. ¹⁸ And it came to pass as her soul was departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni, but his father called him Benjamin.

²⁰ And we said unto my lord, We have a father, an old man, and a young man of his old age, yet a lad; and his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother, and his father loves him.

²¹ And the sons of Benjamin were Belah, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard.

²⁷ Benjamin, ravening wolf: in the morning he shall devour the prey, and in the evening he shall divide the spoil.

³⁸ The sons of Benjamin after their families: of Bela, the family of the Belaites; of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites; of Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites; ³⁹ of Shupham, the family of the Shuphamites; of Hupham, the family of the Huphamites. ⁴⁰ And the sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman: of Ard, the family of the Ardites; and of Naaman, the family of the Naamites. ⁴¹ These are the sons of Benjamin by their families: and those numbered were forty-five thousand six hundred.

¹⁷ of Benjamin, Eliada, a mighty man of valour, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield;

⁸ Of the tribe of Zebulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

²³ His host, with those that were numbered of them, were thirty-five thousand four hundred.

⁴¹ These are the sons of Benjamin by their families: and those numbered were forty-five thousand six hundred.

⁴⁴ And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valour. ⁴⁵ And they turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon; and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men and pursued hard after them unto Gidom, and slew two thousand men of them. ⁴⁶ So that all who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men that drew the sword; all these were men of valour.

⁵ And Bilhah conceived and gave birth to a son unto Jacob. ⁶ And Rachel said, God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son. Therefore she called his name Dan.

²³ And the sons of Dan: Hushim.

¹⁶ Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. ¹⁷ Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that bites the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.

⁴² These are the sons of Dan by their families: of Shuham, the family of the Shuhamites. These are the families of Dan by their families. ⁴³ All the families of the Shuhamites, according to those numbered, were sixty-four thousand four hundred.

¹² And Zilpah, Leah’s maid, gave birth to a second son unto Jacob. ¹³ And Leah said, Blessed am I, for the daughters will call me blessed; and she called his name Asher.

²⁷ and the sons of Joseph, who were born him in Egypt, were two souls. All the souls of the house of Jacob, who came into Egypt, were seventy.

²⁰ Out of Asher his bread shall be fat, and he shall yield delight unto the king.

⁴⁴ The sons of Asher after their families: of Jimna, the family of the Jimnites; of Jesui, the family of the Jesuites; of Beriah, the family of the Beriites. ⁴⁵ Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites; of Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites. ⁴⁶ And the name of the daughter of Asher was Sarah. ⁴⁷ These are the families of the sons of Asher according to those numbered; fifty-three thousand four hundred.

⁷ And Bilhah Rachel’s maid conceived again and gave birth to a second son unto Jacob. ⁸ And Rachel said, With great wrestlings I have wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed; and she called his name Naphtali.

²⁴ And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem.

² Take the sum of all the congregation of the sons of Israel by their families, by the houses of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls, ³ from twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel; thou and Aaron shall number them by their hosts. ⁴ And with you there shall be a man of every tribe, every one head of the house of his fathers. ⁵ And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben, Elizur, the son of Shedeur; ⁶ of Simeon, Shelumiel, the son of Zurishaddai; ⁷ of Judah, Nahshon, the son of Amminadab; ⁸ of Issachar, Nethaneel, the son of Zuar; ⁹ of Zebulun, Eliab, the son of Helon; ¹⁰ of the sons of Joseph, of Ephraim, Elishama, the son of Ammihud; of Manasseh, Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur; ¹¹ of Benjamin, Abidan, the son of Gideoni; ¹² of Dan, Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai; ¹³ of Asher, Pagiel, the son of Ocran; ¹⁴ of Gad, Eliasaph, the son of Deuel; ¹⁵ of Naphtali, Ahira, the son of Enan; ¹⁶ these were the renowned of the congregation, princes of the tribes of their fathers, captains of the thousands of Israel.

⁶⁴ And among these there was not a man of those whom Moses and Aaron the priest had numbered when they numbered the sons of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai.

² and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.

¹⁶ And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth, so that if someone could number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.

⁵ And he brought him forth abroad and said, Look now toward the heavens and count the stars, if thou art able to number them. And he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

⁶ And I will multiply thee exceeding, and I will make Gentiles of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

¹⁷ that in blessing I will bless thee and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gates of his enemies;

³ abide in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these lands, and I will confirm the oath which I swore unto Abraham thy father;

¹⁴ and thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt multiply to the west and to the east and to the Aquilon and to the Negev; and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

³ And he said, I am the God, the God of thy father; fear not to go down into Egypt; for there I will make of thee a great people. ⁴ I will go down with thee into Egypt; and I will also surely bring thee up again; and Joseph shall put his hand upon thine eyes.

³⁷ ¶ And the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, not counting the children.

³² These are those who were numbered of the sons of Israel by the houses of their fathers; all those that were numbered of the camps throughout their hosts were six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.

¹⁰ Who shall count the dust of Jacob and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let my soul die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

⁵¹ These are the numbered of the sons of Israel, six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirty.

²² Thy fathers went down into Egypt with seventy souls, and now the LORD thy God has made thee as the stars of heaven in multitude.

²⁰ ¶ Judah and Israel were many, as the sand which is by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking, and making merry.

⁵ And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And they found in all Israel eleven times one hundred thousand men that drew sword, and of Judah four hundred seventy thousand men that drew sword.

³ And Abijah set the battle in order with an army of valiant men of war, four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valour.

¹⁴ And these are the numbers of them according to the houses of their fathers: In Judah, princes of thousands; the prince Adnah and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valour; ¹⁵ and after him, Prince Jehohanan and with him two hundred and eighty thousand; ¹⁶ after him, Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour; ¹⁷ of Benjamin, Eliada, a mighty man of valour, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield; ¹⁸ after him, Jehozabad and with him one hundred and eighty thousand ready and prepared for the war. ¹⁹ These were servants of the king, besides those whom the king had put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.

¹¹ By faith also Sara herself being sterile received strength to conceive seed and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she believed him to be faithful who had promised. ¹² Therefore there sprang even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

⁴ And I heard the number of those that were sealed: and there were sealed a hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the sons of Israel. ⁵ Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. ⁶ Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Naphtali were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. ⁷ Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand. ⁸ Of the tribe of Zebulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand. ⁹ After this I saw, and, behold, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations and kindreds and peoples and tongues stood before the throne and before the Lamb clothed with long white robes and palms in their hands

³ from twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel; thou and Aaron shall number them by their hosts.

⁵⁰ But thou shalt place the Levites in the tabernacle of the testimony and over all the vessels thereof and over all things that belong to it; they shall bear the tabernacle and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister in it and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

³³ But the Levites were not numbered among the sons of Israel, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

¹ ¶ These also are the generations of Aaron and of Moses in the day that the LORD spoke with Moses in Mount Sinai. ² And these are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab, the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ³ These are the names of the sons of Aaron, anointed priests, whose hands he filled to administer the priesthood. ⁴ But Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no sons; and Eleazar and Ithamar exercised the priesthood in the sight of Aaron, their father. ⁵ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ⁶ Bring the tribe of Levi near and present them before Aaron, the priest, that they may minister unto him. ⁷ And they shall keep his commandment and the commandment of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the testimony, to minister in the service of the tabernacle. ⁸ And they shall keep all the instruments of the tabernacle of the testimony and the charge of the sons of Israel, to minister in the service of the tabernacle. ⁹ And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons; they are completely given unto him out of the sons of Israel. ¹⁰ And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons that they shall guard their priesthood; and the stranger that comes near shall be put to death. ¹¹ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ¹² Behold, I have taken the Levites from among the sons of Israel instead of all the firstborn that open the womb among the sons of Israel; therefore the Levites shall be mine; ¹³ because all the firstborn are mine; from the day that I smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified unto me all the firstborn in Israel, both of men and of animals; they shall be mine: I am the LORD. ¹⁴ ¶ The LORD also spoke unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, ¹⁵ Number the sons of Levi by the houses of their fathers, by their families; thou shalt number every male from a month old and upward. ¹⁶ And Moses numbered them according to the word of the LORD, as he was commanded. ¹⁷ And these were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon and Kohath and Merari. ¹⁸ And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei. ¹⁹ And the sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, Izehar, Hebron, and Uzziel. ²⁰ And the sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to the houses of their fathers. ²¹ Of Gershon was the family of Libni and the family of Shimei; these are the families of Gershon. ²² Those that were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, those that were numbered of them were seven thousand five hundred. ²³ The families of Gershon shall pitch behind the tabernacle to the west; ²⁴ and the prince of the house of the father of the Gershonites, Eliasaph, son of Lael. ²⁵ And the charge of the sons of Gershon in the tabernacle of the testimony shall be the tabernacle and the tent, the covering thereof, and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, ²⁶ and the hangings of the court and the curtain for the door of the court, which is by the tabernacle and by the altar round about, and the cords of it for all the service thereof. ²⁷ And of Kohath was the family of Amram and the family of Izehar and the family of Hebron and the family of Uzziel; these are the families of the Kohathites. ²⁸ In the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were eight thousand six hundred, keeping the charge of the sanctuary. ²⁹ The families of the sons of Kohath shall pitch on the side of the tabernacle towards the Negev; ³⁰ and the prince of the house of the father of the families of Kohath, Elizaphan, son of Uzziel. ³¹ And their charge shall be the ark and the table and the lampstand and the altars and the vessels of the sanctuary with which they minister, and the veil, with all its service. ³² And Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, shall be principal over the princes of the Levites and have the oversight of those that keep the charge of the sanctuary. ³³ Of Merari was the family of Mahli and the family of Mushi; these are the families of Merari. ³⁴ And those that were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were six thousand two hundred; ³⁵ and the prince of the house of the father of the families of Merari, Zuriel the son of Abihail: these shall pitch on the side of the tabernacle to the Aquilon. ³⁶ And under the custody and charge of the sons of Merari shall be the boards of the tabernacle and the bars thereof and the pillars thereof and the sockets thereof and all the instruments thereof, with all its service, ³⁷ and the pillars of the court round about and their sockets and their stakes and their cords. ³⁸ And those that encamp before the tabernacle toward the east, before the tabernacle of the testimony towards the sunrise, shall be Moses and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the sons of Israel; and the stranger that comes near shall be put to death. ³⁹ All that were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron, according to the word of the LORD, numbered by their families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty-two thousand. ⁴⁰ ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Number all the firstborn of the males of the sons of Israel from a month old and upward and take the number of their names. ⁴¹ And thou shalt take the Levites for me (I am the LORD) instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel and the animals of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the animals of the sons of Israel. ⁴² And Moses numbered, as the LORD commanded him, all the firstborn among the sons of Israel. ⁴³ And all the firstborn males by the number of names, from a month old and upward, of those that were numbered of them, were twenty-two thousand two hundred seventy-three. ⁴⁴ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ⁴⁵ Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the sons of Israel and the animals of the Levites instead of their animals, and the Levites shall be mine; I am the LORD. ⁴⁶ And for the ransoms of the two hundred seventy-three of the firstborn of the sons of Israel, who are more than the Levites, ⁴⁷ thou shalt take five shekels apiece by the poll, after the shekel of the sanctuary shalt thou take them (the shekel is of twenty gerahs). ⁴⁸ And thou shalt give the money, of the ransoms of the odd number of them, unto Aaron and to his sons. ⁴⁹ And Moses took the ransom money of those that were over and above the ones that were redeemed by the Levites

¹ ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, ² Take the sum of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, after their families, by the houses of their fathers, ³ from thirty years old and upward until fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to do work in the tabernacle of the testimony. ⁴ This shall be the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the testimony, in the holy of holies: ⁵ When the camp is to be moved, Aaron shall come, and his sons, and they shall take down the covering veil and cover the ark of testimony with it ⁶ and shall put thereon the covering of badgers’ skins and shall spread over it a cloth entirely of blue and shall put in the staves thereof. ⁷ And upon the table of showbread they shall spread a cloth of blue and put thereon the dishes and the spoons and the bowls and covers to cover withal; and the continual bread shall be thereon. ⁸ And they shall spread upon them a cloth of scarlet and cover the same with a covering of badgers’ skins and shall put in the staves thereof. ⁹ And they shall take a cloth of blue and cover the lampstand of the light and its lamps and its tongs and its snuffdishes and all the oil vessels thereof with which they minister unto it; ¹⁰ and they shall put it and all the vessels thereof within a covering of badgers’ skins and shall put it upon a bar. ¹¹ And upon the golden altar they shall spread a cloth of blue and cover it with a covering of badgers’ skins and shall put in the staves thereof; ¹² and they shall take all the vessels of ministry with which they minister in the sanctuary and put them in a cloth of blue and cover them with a covering of badgers’ skins and shall put them on a bar. ¹³ And they shall take away the ashes with the burnt fat from the altar and spread a purple cloth thereon ¹⁴ and they shall put upon it all the vessels thereof with which they minister about it: the censers, the fleshhooks, the shovels, and the basins, all the vessels of the altar; and they shall spread upon it a covering of badgers’ skins and put in the staves of it. ¹⁵ And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary and all the vessels of the sanctuary when the camp is to set forward, after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to bear it, but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the testimony. ¹⁶ But unto the care of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, shall be the oil of the light and the aromatic incense and the daily present and the anointing oil and the care of all the tabernacle and of all that is therein, in the sanctuary, and in the vessels thereof. ¹⁷ And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, ¹⁸ Ye shall not cut off the tribe of the families of Kohath from among the Levites, ¹⁹ but thus do unto them that they may live, and not die, when they approach unto the holy of holies: Aaron and his sons shall come and place each one of them in his ministry and to his burden. ²⁰ They shall not go in to see when the holy things are covered, lest they die. ²¹ ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ²² Take also the sum of the sons of Gershon, throughout the houses of their fathers, by their families; ²³ from thirty years old and upward until fifty years old shalt thou number them, all that enter in to the host to do work in the tabernacle of the testimony. ²⁴ This shall be the service of the families of Gershon, to minister and to bear burdens: ²⁵ They shall bear the curtains of the tabernacle and the tabernacle of the testimony, its covering, and the covering of badgers’ skins that is over it above and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the testimony ²⁶ and the hangings of the court and the hanging for the door of the gate of the court, which is by the tabernacle and by the altar round about, and their cords and all the instruments of their service and all that is made for them; so shall they serve. ²⁷ According to the word of Aaron and his sons shall be all the ministry of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their burdens and in all their service; and ye shall appoint unto them in charge all their burdens. ²⁸ This is the service of the families of the sons of Gershon in the tabernacle of the testimony, and their charge shall be under the hand of Ithamar, the son of Aaron the priest. ²⁹ As for the sons of Merari, thou shalt number them after their families, by the houses of their fathers. ³⁰ From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old shalt thou number them, all that enters into the host, to do work in the tabernacle of the testimony. ³¹ And this shall be the charge of their burden, according to all their service in the tabernacle of the testimony: the boards of the tabernacle and the bars thereof and the pillars thereof and sockets thereof, ³² and the pillars of the court round about and their sockets and their stakes and their cords with all their instruments and with all their service; and ye shall number by name the vessels of the charge of their burden. ³³ This shall be the service of the families of the sons of Merari for all their ministry, in the tabernacle of the testimony, under the hand of Ithamar, the son of Aaron the priest. ³⁴ ¶ So Moses and Aaron and the princes of the congregation numbered the sons of Kohath after their families and after the houses of their fathers, ³⁵ from thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to minister in the tabernacle of the testimony. ³⁶ And those that were numbered of them by their families were two thousand seven hundred and fifty. ³⁷ These were the numbered of the families of Kohath, all that minister in the tabernacle of the testimony, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses. ³⁸ And those that were numbered of the sons of Gershon, throughout their families and by the houses of their fathers, ³⁹ from thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to minister in the tabernacle of the testimony, ⁴⁰ those that were numbered of them, throughout their families, by the houses of their fathers, were two thousand six hundred and thirty. ⁴¹ These were numbered of the families of the sons of Gershon, all that minister in the tabernacle of the testimony, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of the LORD. ⁴² And those that were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, throughout their families, by the houses of their fathers, ⁴³ from thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to minister in the tabernacle of the testimony, ⁴⁴ those that were numbered of them after their families, were three thousand two hundred. ⁴⁵ These were those that were numbered of the families of the sons of Merari, whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses. ⁴⁶ All those that were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron and the princes of Israel numbered, after their families and after the houses of their fathers, ⁴⁷ from thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old, every one that entered in to serve in the service and to bear a burden in the tabernacle of the testimony, ⁴⁸ those that were numbered of them, were eight thousand five hundred and eighty. ⁴⁹ As the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, they were numbered, each one according to his ministry and according to his burden; thus were they numbered of Moses, as the LORD commanded him.

¹ ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ² Speak unto Aaron and say unto him, When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the face of the lampstand. ³ And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof over against the face of the lampstand, as the LORD commanded Moses. ⁴ And this work of the lampstand was of beaten gold, from the shaft thereof unto the flowers thereof; it was beaten work; according unto the pattern which the LORD had showed Moses, so he made the lampstand. ⁵ ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ⁶ Take the Levites from among the sons of Israel, and cleanse them. ⁷ And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of atonement for sin upon them, and let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash their clothes, and be clean. ⁸ Then let them take a young bullock with his present, even fine flour mingled with oil, and another young bullock shalt thou offer as sin. ⁹ And thou shalt offer the Levites before the tabernacle of the testimony, and thou shalt gather the whole congregation of the sons of Israel together; ¹⁰ and thou shalt bring the Levites before the LORD, and the sons of Israel shall put their hands upon the Levites; ¹¹ and Aaron shall offer the Levites before the LORD for a wave offering of the sons of Israel, and they shall serve in the ministry of the LORD. ¹² And the Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bullocks; and thou shalt offer the one as the sin, and the other as a burnt offering, unto the LORD, to reconcile the Levites. ¹³ And thou shalt cause the Levites to present themselves before Aaron, and before his sons, and offer them for an offering unto the LORD. ¹⁴ And thou shalt separate the Levites from among the sons of Israel; and the Levites shall be mine. ¹⁵ Thus shall the Levites go in to minister in the tabernacle of the testimony; and thou shalt cleanse them and wave them for an offering. ¹⁶ For they are completely given unto me from among the sons of Israel, instead of each one that opens the womb; instead of the firstborn of all the sons of Israel, I have taken them for myself. ¹⁷ For all the firstborn of the sons of Israel are mine, both of man and of animals; from the day that I smote every firstborn in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for myself. ¹⁸ And I have taken the Levites for all the firstborn of the sons of Israel. ¹⁹ And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the sons of Israel, that they may serve the ministry of the sons of Israel in the tabernacle of the testimony and reconcile the sons of Israel, that there be no plague in the sons of Israel when the sons of Israel come near unto the sanctuary. ²⁰ And Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the sons of Israel did to the Levites according unto all that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did the sons of Israel unto them. ²¹ And the sin was removed from the Levites, and they washed their clothes; and Aaron offered them for a wave offering before the LORD; and Aaron reconciled them to cleanse them. ²² And thus went the Levites in to serve in their ministry in the tabernacle of the testimony before Aaron and before his sons; in the manner that the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so did they unto them. ²³ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ²⁴ This regarding the Levites from twenty-five years old and upward, they shall go in to serve in the host of the tabernacle of the testimony. ²⁵ And from the age of fifty years they shall return from their ministry unto the host and shall never serve again, ²⁶ but shall serve with their brethren in the tabernacle of the testimony, to stand guard, even though they do not serve in the ministry. Thus shalt thou do unto the Levites touching their charge.

⁵⁷ ¶ And these are those that were numbered of the Levites by their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites; of Merari, the family of the Merarites. ⁵⁸ These are the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korathites. And Kohath begat Amram. ⁵⁹ And the name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed, daughter of Levi, whom her mother bore to Levi in Egypt: and she bore unto Amram Aaron and Moses and Miriam, their sister. ⁶⁰ And unto Aaron was born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ⁶¹ And Nadab and Abihu died when they offered strange fire before the LORD. ⁶² And those that were numbered of them were twenty-three thousand, all males from a month old and upward; for they were not numbered among the sons of Israel because no inheritance was to be given them among the sons of Israel.

The sons of Aaron: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ⁴ Eleazar begat Phinehas, and Phinehas begat Abishua, ⁵ and Abishua begat Bukki, and Bukki begat Uzzi, ⁶ and Uzzi begat Zerahiah, and Zerahiah begat Meraioth, ⁷ and Meraioth begat Amariah, and Amariah begat Ahitub, ⁸ and Ahitub begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Ahimaaz, ⁹ and Ahimaaz begat Azariah, and Azariah begat Johanan, ¹⁰ and Johanan begat Azariah, who had the priesthood in the house that Solomon built in Jerusalem, ¹¹ and Azariah begat Amariah, and Amariah begat Ahitub, ¹² and Ahitub begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Shallum, ¹³ and Shallum begat Hilkiah, and Hilkiah begat Azariah, ¹⁴ and Azariah begat Seraiah, and Seraiah begat Jehozadak, ¹⁵ and Jehozadak went into captivity, when the LORD carried away Judah and Jerusalem by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar. ¹⁶ The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ¹⁷ And these are the names of the sons of Gershon: Libni and Shimei. ¹⁸ The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. ¹⁹ The sons of Merari: Mahli, Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their fathers. ²⁰ Of Gershon: Libni, his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son, ²¹ Joah, his son, Iddo, his son, Zerah, his son, Jeaterai, his son. ²² The sons of Kohath: Amminadab, his son, Korah, his son, Assir, his son, ²³ Elkanah, his son, and Ebiasaph, his son, and Assir, his son, ²⁴ Tahath, his son, Uriel, his son, Uzziah, his son, and Saul, his son. ²⁵ The sons of Elkanah: Amasai, Ahimoth, and Elkanah. ²⁶ The sons of Elkanah: Zophai, his son, and Nahath, his son, ²⁷ Eliab, his son, Jeroham, his son, Elkanah, his son. ²⁸ The sons of Samuel: the firstborn Vashni and Abiah. ²⁹ The sons of Merari: Mahli, Libni, his son, Shimei, his son, Uzza, his son, ³⁰ Shimea, his son, Haggiah, his son, Asaiah, his son. ³¹ ¶ And these are they whom David set over the service of song in the house of the LORD, after the ark had rest. ³² And they served before the tent of the tabernacle of the testimony with singing until Solomon had built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem, and then they remained in their ministry according to their right. ³³ And these are those that remained with their sons. Of the sons of the Kohath: Heman, a singer, the son of Joel, the son of Shemuel, ³⁴ the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah, ³⁵ the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai, ³⁶ the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah, ³⁷ the son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, ³⁸ the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel. ³⁹ And his brother Asaph, who stood on his right hand, even Asaph the son of Berachiah, the son of Shimea, ⁴⁰ the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malchiah, ⁴¹ the son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah, ⁴² the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei, ⁴³ the son of Jahath, the son of Gershon, the son of Levi. ⁴⁴ And their brethren, the sons of Merari, stood on the left hand; Ethan, the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch, ⁴⁵ the son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah, ⁴⁶ the son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shamer, ⁴⁷ the son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi. ⁴⁸ Their brethren, also the Levites, were given over unto all the ministry of the tabernacle of the house of God. ⁴⁹ But Aaron and his sons made incense upon the altar of the burnt offering and on the altar of incense, in all the work of the holy of holies, and to make reconciliation for Israel, according to all that Moses, the slave of God, had commanded. ⁵⁰ And these are the sons of Aaron: Eleazar, his son, Phinehas, his son, Abishua, his son, ⁵¹ Bukki, his son, Uzzi, his son, Zerahiah, his son, ⁵² Meraioth, his son, Amariah, his son, Ahitub, his son, ⁵³ Zadok, his son, Ahimaaz, his son. ⁵⁴ ¶ Now these are their dwelling places throughout their palaces in their borders, of the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites; for theirs was the lot, ⁵⁵ that they gave them Hebron in the land of Judah and its suburbs round about it. ⁵⁶ But the fields around the city and its villages, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh. ⁵⁷ And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge of Judah, namely, Hebron and Libnah with their suburbs, and Jattir and Eshtemoa, with their suburbs, ⁵⁸ and Hilen with her suburbs, Debir with her suburbs, ⁵⁹ and Ashan with her suburbs, and Bethshemesh with her suburbs. ⁶⁰ And out of the tribe of Benjamin; Geba with her suburbs and Alemeth with her suburbs and Anathoth with her suburbs. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities. ⁶¹ And unto the sons of Kohath, who were left of that family, they gave ten cities of the half tribe of Manasseh, by lot. ⁶² And to the sons of Gershon, throughout their families, out of the tribe of Issachar and out of the tribe of Asher and out of the tribe of Naphtali and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. ⁶³ Unto the sons of Merari were given by lot, throughout their families, out of the tribe of Reuben and out of the tribe of Gad and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. ⁶⁴ And the sons of Israel gave to the Levites these cities with their suburbs. ⁶⁵ And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the sons of Judah and out of the tribe of the sons of Simeon and out of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin, these cities, which are called by their names. ⁶⁶ And the residue of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities with their borders out of the tribe of Ephraim. ⁶⁷ And they gave unto them, of the cities of refuge, Shechem in Mount Ephraim with her suburbs; they gave also Gezer with her suburbs, ⁶⁸ and Jokmeam with her suburbs and Bethhoron with her suburbs, ⁶⁹ and Aijalon with her suburbs and Gathrimmon with her suburbs. ⁷⁰ And out of the half tribe of Manasseh; Aner with her suburbs and Bileam with her suburbs, for the family of the remnant of the sons of Kohath. ⁷¹ Unto the sons of Gershon were given out of the family of the half tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with her suburbs and Ashtaroth with her suburbs; ⁷² and out of the tribe of Issachar; Kedesh with her suburbs, Daberath with her suburbs, ⁷³ and Ramoth with her suburbs, and Anem with her suburbs; ⁷⁴ and out of the tribe of Asher, Mashal with her suburbs and Abdon with her suburbs ⁷⁵ and Hukok with her suburbs and Rehob with her suburbs. ⁷⁶ And out of the tribe of Naphtali; Kedesh in Galilee with her suburbs and Hammon with her suburbs and Kirjathaim with her suburbs. ⁷⁷ Unto the rest of the sons of Merari were given out of the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmon with her suburbs, Tabor with her suburbs; ⁷⁸ and on the other side of the Jordan by Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, were given them out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the wilderness with her suburbs and Jahzah with her suburbs, ⁷⁹ Kedemoth also with her suburbs and Mephaath with her suburbs; ⁸⁰ and out of the tribe of Gad; Ramoth in Gilead with her suburbs and Mahanaim with her suburbs, ⁸¹ and Heshbon with her suburbs and Jazer with her suburbs.

⁶ Among these the Levites and the sons of Benjamin were not counted, for the king’s word was abominable to Joab.

⁶² And those that were numbered of them were twenty-three thousand, all males from a month old and upward; for they were not numbered among the sons of Israel because no inheritance was to be given them among the sons of Israel.

¹⁸ And he gave unto Moses, when he finished speaking with him upon Mount Sinai, two tables of the testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

²⁶ Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp and said, Who is on the LORD’s side? Come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him. ²⁷ And he said unto them, Thus hath the LORD God of Israel said, Put every man his sword by his side and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp and slay each one his brother and his companion and his neighbour. ²⁸ And the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses, and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men. ²⁹ Then Moses had said, Today you have consecrated yourselves to the LORD, for each one has consecrated in his son and in his brother, that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.

²¹ ¶ This is the sum of the tabernacle, even of the tabernacle of testimony, as it was counted, according to the commandment of Moses, for the ministry of the Levites, by the hand of Ithamar, son to Aaron the priest.

⁵³ But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of the testimony that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the sons of Israel; and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony.

¹⁷ Then shall set forward the tabernacle of the testimony, the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camps, in the manner that they encamp, so shall they set forward, each one in his place by their standards.

¹ ¶ These also are the generations of Aaron and of Moses in the day that the LORD spoke with Moses in Mount Sinai. ² And these are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab, the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ³ These are the names of the sons of Aaron, anointed priests, whose hands he filled to administer the priesthood. ⁴ But Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no sons; and Eleazar and Ithamar exercised the priesthood in the sight of Aaron, their father. ⁵ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ⁶ Bring the tribe of Levi near and present them before Aaron, the priest, that they may minister unto him. ⁷ And they shall keep his commandment and the commandment of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the testimony, to minister in the service of the tabernacle. ⁸ And they shall keep all the instruments of the tabernacle of the testimony and the charge of the sons of Israel, to minister in the service of the tabernacle. ⁹ And thou shalt give the Levites unto Aaron and to his sons; they are completely given unto him out of the sons of Israel. ¹⁰ And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons that they shall guard their priesthood; and the stranger that comes near shall be put to death.

²³ The families of Gershon shall pitch behind the tabernacle to the west; ²⁴ and the prince of the house of the father of the Gershonites, Eliasaph, son of Lael. ²⁵ And the charge of the sons of Gershon in the tabernacle of the testimony shall be the tabernacle and the tent, the covering thereof, and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the testimony, ²⁶ and the hangings of the court and the curtain for the door of the court, which is by the tabernacle and by the altar round about, and the cords of it for all the service thereof. ²⁷ And of Kohath was the family of Amram and the family of Izehar and the family of Hebron and the family of Uzziel; these are the families of the Kohathites. ²⁸ In the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were eight thousand six hundred, keeping the charge of the sanctuary. ²⁹ The families of the sons of Kohath shall pitch on the side of the tabernacle towards the Negev; ³⁰ and the prince of the house of the father of the families of Kohath, Elizaphan, son of Uzziel. ³¹ And their charge shall be the ark and the table and the lampstand and the altars and the vessels of the sanctuary with which they minister, and the veil, with all its service. ³² And Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, shall be principal over the princes of the Levites and have the oversight of those that keep the charge of the sanctuary. ³³ Of Merari was the family of Mahli and the family of Mushi; these are the families of Merari. ³⁴ And those that were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were six thousand two hundred; ³⁵ and the prince of the house of the father of the families of Merari, Zuriel the son of Abihail: these shall pitch on the side of the tabernacle to the Aquilon. ³⁶ And under the custody and charge of the sons of Merari shall be the boards of the tabernacle and the bars thereof and the pillars thereof and the sockets thereof and all the instruments thereof, with all its service, ³⁷ and the pillars of the court round about and their sockets and their stakes and their cords. ³⁸ And those that encamp before the tabernacle toward the east, before the tabernacle of the testimony towards the sunrise, shall be Moses and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the sons of Israel; and the stranger that comes near shall be put to death.

¹⁵ And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary and all the vessels of the sanctuary when the camp is to set forward, after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to bear it, but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the testimony.

²⁵ They shall bear the curtains of the tabernacle and the tabernacle of the testimony, its covering, and the covering of badgers’ skins that is over it above and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the testimony ²⁶ and the hangings of the court and the hanging for the door of the gate of the court, which is by the tabernacle and by the altar round about, and their cords and all the instruments of their service and all that is made for them; so shall they serve. ²⁷ According to the word of Aaron and his sons shall be all the ministry of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their burdens and in all their service; and ye shall appoint unto them in charge all their burdens. ²⁸ This is the service of the families of the sons of Gershon in the tabernacle of the testimony, and their charge shall be under the hand of Ithamar, the son of Aaron the priest. ²⁹ As for the sons of Merari, thou shalt number them after their families, by the houses of their fathers. ³⁰ From thirty years old and upward even unto fifty years old shalt thou number them, all that enters into the host, to do work in the tabernacle of the testimony. ³¹ And this shall be the charge of their burden, according to all their service in the tabernacle of the testimony: the boards of the tabernacle and the bars thereof and the pillars thereof and sockets thereof, ³² and the pillars of the court round about and their sockets and their stakes and their cords with all their instruments and with all their service; and ye shall number by name the vessels of the charge of their burden. ³³ This shall be the service of the families of the sons of Merari for all their ministry, in the tabernacle of the testimony, under the hand of Ithamar, the son of Aaron the priest.

²¹ Then the Kohathites set forward, bearing the sanctuary, and while they were coming, the others set up the tabernacle.

¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice; and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

¹ ¶ So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon, his son, king over Israel. ² And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, and the priests and the Levites, ³ were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward; and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand. ⁴ Of which, twenty-four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the LORD, and six thousand were officers and judges; ⁵ moreover, four thousand were porters, and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which David had made to praise therewith. ⁶ And David divided them into courses according to the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ⁷ The sons of Gershon: Laadan and Shimei. ⁸ The sons of Laadan: Jehiel, the first, Zetham and Joel, three. ⁹ The sons of Shimei: Shelomith, Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan. ¹⁰ And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei. ¹¹ And Jahath was the first, and Zizah the second, but Jeush and Beriah did not multiply in many sons; therefore, they were in one reckoning, according to their father’s house. ¹² The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four. ¹³ The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. And Aaron was separated, that he should be dedicated to the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister unto him and to bless in his name for ever. ¹⁴ And the sons of Moses, the man of God, were counted in the tribe of Levi. ¹⁵ The sons of Moses were Gershon and Eliezer. ¹⁶ Of the sons of Gershon, Shebuel was the chief. ¹⁷ And the son of Eliezer was Rehabiah, the chief. And Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. ¹⁸ The sons of Izhar: Shelomith, the chief. ¹⁹ The sons of Hebron: Jeriah, the first, Amariah, the second, Jahaziel, the third, and Jekameam, the fourth. ²⁰ The sons of Uzziel: Michah, the first, and Jesiah, the second. ²¹ The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. ²² And Eleazar died and had no sons, but daughters and their brethren, the sons of Kish, took them as wives. ²³ The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth, three. ²⁴ ¶ These are the sons of Levi after the houses of their fathers, even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did work in the ministry of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward. ²⁵ For David said, The LORD God of Israel has given rest unto his people, and he shall dwell in Jerusalem for ever. ²⁶ And also unto the Levites, they shall no longer carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for its ministry. ²⁷ For by the last words of David, the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above. ²⁸ And their station was at the hand of the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and in the work of the ministry of the house of God, ²⁹ both for the showbread and for the fine flour for the sacrifice and for the unleavened cakes and for that which is baked in the pan and for that which is fried and for all manner of measure and size, ³⁰ and to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise in the evening; ³¹ and to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons and solemnities, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the LORD. ³² And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony and the charge of the holy place and the charge of the sons of Aaron, their brethren, in the ministry of the house of the LORD.

¹ ¶ Moreover David and the captains of the host separated unto the ministry the sons of Asaph and of Heman and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals; and the number of men that were suitable for the work of their respective ministry was, ² of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied at the hand of the king. ³ Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hand of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD. ⁴ Of Heman: the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth. ⁵ All these were the sons of Heman, the king’s seer, in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters. ⁶ All these were under the direction of their father for song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the ministry of the house of God, under the hand of the king, of Asaph, of Jeduthun, and of Heman. ⁷ So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the LORD, even all that had understanding, was two hundred eighty-eight. ⁸ ¶ And they cast lots, ward against ward, the small as well as the great, the one with understanding as well as the disciple. ⁹ Now the first lot came forth for Asaph to Joseph; the second to Gedaliah, who with his brethren and sons were twelve; ¹⁰ the third to Zaccur, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ¹¹ the fourth to Izri, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ¹² the fifth to Nethaniah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ¹³ the sixth to Bukkiah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ¹⁴ the seventh to Jesharelah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ¹⁵ the eighth to Jeshaiah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ¹⁶ the ninth to Mattaniah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ¹⁷ the tenth to Shimei, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ¹⁸ the eleventh to Azareel, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ¹⁹ the twelfth to Hashabiah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ²⁰ the thirteenth to Shubael, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ²¹ the fourteenth to Mattithiah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ²² the fifteenth to Jeremoth, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ²³ the sixteenth to Hananiah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ²⁴ the seventeenth to Joshbekashah, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ²⁵ the eighteenth to Hanani, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve; ²⁶ the nineteenth to Mallothi, he, his sons, and his brethren were twelve:

²⁵ and weighed unto them the silver and the gold and the vessels, the offering for the house of our God, which the king and his counsellors and his princes and all those that were of Israel had offered. ²⁶ I weighed, therefore, unto their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver and silver vessels of one hundred talents and of gold one hundred talents; ²⁷ also twenty basins of gold, of a thousand drams, and two vessels of clean brass, precious as gold. ²⁸ And I said unto them, Ye are holiness unto the LORD; the vessels are holiness also; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering unto the LORD God of your fathers. ²⁹ Watch and keep them until you weigh them before the princes of the priests and the Levites and of the princes of the fathers of Israel in Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the LORD. ³⁰ The priests and the Levites received the weight of the silver and of the gold and of the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God.

³³ Now on the fourth day the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth, the son of Uriah, the priest; and with him was Eleazar, the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad, the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah, the son of Binnui, Levites; ³⁴ by number and by weight of each one; and all the weight was written at that time.

⁸ And the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, who with his brethren officiated in the songs of praise.

²² The Levites in the days of Eliashib, of Joiada and of Johanan and of Jaddua, were recorded as heads of families; also the priests, until the reign of Darius, the Persian.

⁴⁷ And all Israel in the days of Zerubbabel and in the days of Nehemiah, gave the portions of the singers and the porters, each thing in its day; and they sanctified them unto the Levites; and the Levites sanctified them unto the sons of Aaron.

⁵ and he had prepared for him a great chamber, where before they had kept the present, the frankincense, the vessels, the tithe of the grain, of the new wine, and of the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, to the singers and the porters and the offerings of the priests.

¹⁰ ¶ And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given to them and that the Levites and the singers, that did the work, had fled each one to his inheritance. ¹¹ Then I contended with the rulers and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together and set them in their place. ¹² Then all Judah brought the tithe of the grain, of the new wine, and of the oil unto the store houses. ¹³ And I made treasurers over the store houses, Shelemiah, the priest, and Zadok, the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah; and next to them was Hanan, the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah; for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren.

²² And I told the Levites that they should cleanse themselves and that they should come and guard the gates, to sanctify the sabbath day. Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy mercy.

⁴ Because the tribes went up there, the tribes of JAH, the testimony to Israel, to praise the name of the LORD.

¹⁰ ¶ No stranger shall eat of the holy thing; a guest of the priest or a hired servant shall not eat of the holy thing. ¹¹ But when the priest shall buy any soul with his money, he shall eat of it, and he that is born in his house, they shall eat of his bread. ¹² If the priest’s daughter becomes married unto a stranger, she may not eat of that which is set apart of the holy things. ¹³ But if the priest’s daughter becomes a widow or divorced and has no child and is returned unto her father’s house as in her youth, she shall eat of her father’s bread; but no stranger shall eat thereof.

¹⁰ And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons that they shall guard their priesthood; and the stranger that comes near shall be put to death.

³⁸ And those that encamp before the tabernacle toward the east, before the tabernacle of the testimony towards the sunrise, shall be Moses and Aaron and his sons, keeping the charge of the sanctuary for the charge of the sons of Israel; and the stranger that comes near shall be put to death.

¹ ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, ² Take the sum of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, after their families, by the houses of their fathers, ³ from thirty years old and upward until fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to do work in the tabernacle of the testimony. ⁴ This shall be the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the testimony, in the holy of holies: ⁵ When the camp is to be moved, Aaron shall come, and his sons, and they shall take down the covering veil and cover the ark of testimony with it ⁶ and shall put thereon the covering of badgers’ skins and shall spread over it a cloth entirely of blue and shall put in the staves thereof. ⁷ And upon the table of showbread they shall spread a cloth of blue and put thereon the dishes and the spoons and the bowls and covers to cover withal; and the continual bread shall be thereon. ⁸ And they shall spread upon them a cloth of scarlet and cover the same with a covering of badgers’ skins and shall put in the staves thereof. ⁹ And they shall take a cloth of blue and cover the lampstand of the light and its lamps and its tongs and its snuffdishes and all the oil vessels thereof with which they minister unto it; ¹⁰ and they shall put it and all the vessels thereof within a covering of badgers’ skins and shall put it upon a bar. ¹¹ And upon the golden altar they shall spread a cloth of blue and cover it with a covering of badgers’ skins and shall put in the staves thereof; ¹² and they shall take all the vessels of ministry with which they minister in the sanctuary and put them in a cloth of blue and cover them with a covering of badgers’ skins and shall put them on a bar. ¹³ And they shall take away the ashes with the burnt fat from the altar and spread a purple cloth thereon ¹⁴ and they shall put upon it all the vessels thereof with which they minister about it: the censers, the fleshhooks, the shovels, and the basins, all the vessels of the altar; and they shall spread upon it a covering of badgers’ skins and put in the staves of it. ¹⁵ And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary and all the vessels of the sanctuary when the camp is to set forward, after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to bear it, but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the testimony. ¹⁶ But unto the care of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, shall be the oil of the light and the aromatic incense and the daily present and the anointing oil and the care of all the tabernacle and of all that is therein, in the sanctuary, and in the vessels thereof. ¹⁷ And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, ¹⁸ Ye shall not cut off the tribe of the families of Kohath from among the Levites, ¹⁹ but thus do unto them that they may live, and not die, when they approach unto the holy of holies: Aaron and his sons shall come and place each one of them in his ministry and to his burden. ²⁰ They shall not go in to see when the holy things are covered, lest they die. ²¹ ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ²² Take also the sum of the sons of Gershon, throughout the houses of their fathers, by their families; ²³ from thirty years old and upward until fifty years old shalt thou number them, all that enter in to the host to do work in the tabernacle of the testimony. ²⁴ This shall be the service of the families of Gershon, to minister and to bear burdens:

¹¹ ¶ And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony.

¹⁷ And the tabernacle was already taken down, and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set forward, bearing the tabernacle. ¹⁸ Then the standard of the camp of Reuben set forward according to their armies, and over his host was Elizur, the son of Shedeur. ¹⁹ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Simeon was Shelumiel, the son of Zurishaddai. ²⁰ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Gad was Eliasaph, the son of Deuel. ²¹ Then the Kohathites set forward, bearing the sanctuary, and while they were coming, the others set up the tabernacle.

⁴⁰ to be a memorial unto the sons of Israel, that no stranger who is not of the seed of Aaron come near to offer incense before the LORD, that he not be as Korah and as his company, as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.

²² Neither must the sons of Israel from now on come near the tabernacle of the testimony lest they bear sin and die because of it.

¹⁹ ¶ Then God smote those of Bethshemesh because they had looked at the ark of the LORD; he smote fifty thousand of the people and seventy principal men. And the people lamented because the LORD had smitten the people with such a great slaughter.

⁷ And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah, and God smote him there for his effrontery, and there he died by the ark of God.

² Each man of the sons of Israel shall pitch by his own standard, according to the ensigns of the houses of their fathers; round about the tabernacle of the testimony shall they pitch.

³⁴ And the sons of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses; so they pitched by their standards, and so they marched, each one after their families, according to the houses of their fathers.

¹ ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ² Make thee two trumpets of silver; of beaten work shalt thou make them that thou may use them for the convocation of the congregation and for the moving of the camp. ³ And when they shall blow them, all the congregation shall join themselves to thee at the door of the tabernacle of the testimony. ⁴ But when they blow only one, then the princes, who are heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee. ⁵ When ye blow an alarm, then ye shall move the camp of those that are lodged towards the east. ⁶ And when ye blow an alarm the second time, then ye shall move the camp of those that are lodged on the side of the Negev; they shall blow an alarm for their journeys. ⁷ But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm. ⁸ And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets; and you shall have them as a perpetual statute throughout your generations. ⁹ And when ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresses you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies. ¹⁰ Also in the day of your gladness and in your solemn days and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace, that they may be to you for a memorial before your God; I AM your God. ¹¹ ¶ And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, in the second year, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony. ¹² And the sons of Israel moved out of the wilderness of Sinai, and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Paran. ¹³ And they moved the first time according to the commandment of the LORD by the hand of Moses. ¹⁴ In the first place went the standard of the camp of the sons of Judah according to their armies, and over his host was Nahshon, the son of Amminadab. ¹⁵ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Issachar was Nethaneel, the son of Zuar. ¹⁶ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun was Eliab, the son of Helon. ¹⁷ And the tabernacle was already taken down, and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set forward, bearing the tabernacle. ¹⁸ Then the standard of the camp of Reuben set forward according to their armies, and over his host was Elizur, the son of Shedeur. ¹⁹ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Simeon was Shelumiel, the son of Zurishaddai. ²⁰ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Gad was Eliasaph, the son of Deuel. ²¹ Then the Kohathites set forward, bearing the sanctuary, and while they were coming, the others set up the tabernacle. ²² After them the standard of the camp of the sons of Ephraim set forward according to their armies, and over his host was Elishama, the son of Ammihud. ²³ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh was Gamaliel, the son of Pedahzur. ²⁴ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin was Abidan, the son of Gideoni. ²⁵ Then the standard of the camp of the sons of Dan set forward according to their armies, gathering together all the camps, and over his host was Ahiezer, the son of Ammishaddai. ²⁶ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Asher was Pagiel, the son of Ocran. ²⁷ And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali was Ahira, the son of Enan. ²⁸ Thus were the journeyings of the sons of Israel according to their armies when they set forward. ²⁹ ¶ Then Moses said unto Hobab, the son of Raguel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, We are journeying unto the place of which the LORD said, I will give it to you. Come thou with us, and we will do thee good; for the LORD has spoken good concerning Israel. ³⁰ And he said unto him, I will not go; but I will depart to my own land and to my kindred. ³¹ And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee; for thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou shalt be to us instead of eyes. ³² And it shall be, if thou go with us, that when we come into the goodness that the LORD shall do unto us, that we will do thee good. ³³ Thus they departed from the mount of the LORD three days’ journey, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them in the three days’ journey, searching out a resting place for them. ³⁴ And the cloud of the LORD was upon them by day, from when they went out of the camp. ³⁵ And it came to pass, when the ark was moved, that Moses said, Rise up, LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered, and let those that hate thee flee before thee. ³⁶ And when it rested, he said, Return, O LORD, unto the ten thousands of Israel.

² and lifting up his eyes, he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.

⁶ Then Moses said unto Aaron and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Do not uncover your heads, neither rend your clothes lest ye die and lest wrath come upon the whole congregation; but your brethren, the whole house of Israel, shall lament the burning which the LORD has done.

⁷ And they shall keep his commandment and the commandment of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the testimony, to minister in the service of the tabernacle. ⁸ And they shall keep all the instruments of the tabernacle of the testimony and the charge of the sons of Israel, to minister in the service of the tabernacle.

¹⁹ And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the sons of Israel, that they may serve the ministry of the sons of Israel in the tabernacle of the testimony and reconcile the sons of Israel, that there be no plague in the sons of Israel when the sons of Israel come near unto the sanctuary.

⁴⁶ And Moses said unto Aaron, Take the censer and put fire in it from off the altar and put incense upon it and go quickly unto the congregation and reconcile them; for the wrath has gone out from before the face of the LORD; the plague is begun.

² And thy brethren also of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou with thee, that they may be joined unto thee and serve thee; but thou and thy sons with thee shall serve before the tabernacle of the testimony. ³ And they shall keep thy charge, and the charge of all the tabernacle; only they shall not come near the holy vessels or the altar, that neither they, nor ye also, die. ⁴ And they shall join themselves unto thee and keep the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony in all the service of the tabernacle; and no stranger shall come near unto you. ⁵ And ye shall have the charge of the sanctuary and the charge of the altar, that there be no more wrath upon the sons of Israel.

³⁰ And of the half belonging to the sons of Israel, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the oxen, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of animals and give them unto the Levites, who keep the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.

⁴⁷ of the half, therefore of the sons of Israel, Moses took one portion of fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, who kept the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

³² And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony and the charge of the holy place and the charge of the sons of Aaron, their brethren, in the ministry of the house of the LORD.

¹⁰ But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business;

³¹ The prophets prophesied falsely, and the priests bore rule by their hands; and my people love to have it so. What will ye do in the end thereof?

¹⁵ Therefore, thus hath the LORD of the hosts said against those prophets: Behold, I will cause them to eat wormwood and make them drink the waters of gall, for from the prophets of Jerusalem is hypocrisy gone forth upon all the land.

²⁸ Take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has placed you as bishops to feed the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of God, which he has purchased with his own blood. ²⁹ For I know this, that after my departing, grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock. ³⁰ Also from among your own selves, men shall arise, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after themselves. ³¹ Therefore watch and remember that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.

¹³ Until I come, occupy thyself reading, exhorting, teaching. ¹⁴ Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which is given unto thee to prophesy, through the laying on of the hands of the elders. ¹⁵ Occupy thyself in these things with care, for in this is everything, that thy profiting may be manifest unto all. ¹⁶ Take heed unto thyself and unto the doctrine; be diligent in this, for in doing so thou shalt both save thyself and those that hear thee.

² Preach the word; be instant in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

²¹ Keep thyself before him and hear his voice, grieve him not; for he will not pardon your rebellion, for my name is in him. ²² But if thou shalt indeed hear his voice and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies and an adversary unto those that afflict thee.

³² ¶ Thus was all the work of the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the testimony finished, and the sons of Israel did according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses, so did they.

⁴³ And Moses looked upon all the work, and, behold, they had done it as the LORD had commanded, even so had they done it; and Moses blessed them.

¹⁶ ¶ Thus did Moses; according to all that the LORD commanded him, so did he.

³² When they would enter into the tabernacle of the testimony and when they would come near unto the altar, they washed themselves, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

³² Keep thyself, and do all that I command you; thou shalt not add to it nor diminish from it.

²² And Samuel said, Does the LORD have as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in hearing the voice of the LORD? Behold, to hear is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams.

²⁰ teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, behold, I am with you always even unto the end of the age. Amen.
