²⁹ Strengthened with their brethren, their nobles, they came forward in an oath with a curse that they would walk in God’s law, which was given by the hand of Moses, the slave of God, and observe and do all the commandments of the LORD our Lord, and his judgments and his statutes;

¹ ¶ And Moses called all Israel and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and rights which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them and keep them, to do them.

³² Ye shall observe to do, therefore, as the LORD your God has commanded you; ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

¹⁵ Cursed is the man that makes any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and puts it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen. ¹⁶ Cursed is he that dishonours his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen. ¹⁷ Cursed is he that reduces his neighbour’s border. And all the people shall say, Amen. ¹⁸ Cursed is he that makes the blind to err in the way. And all the people shall say, Amen. ¹⁹ Cursed is he that twists the rights of the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow. And all the people shall say, Amen. ²⁰ Cursed is he that lies with his father’s wife because he uncovers his father’s skirt. And all the people shall say, Amen. ²¹ Cursed is he that lies with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say, Amen. ²² Cursed is he that lies with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother. And all the people shall say, Amen. ²³ Cursed is he that lies with his mother-in-law. And all the people shall say, Amen. ²⁴ Cursed is he that smites his neighbour secretly. And all the people shall say, Amen. ²⁵ Cursed is he that takes a bribe to slay an innocent person. And all the people shall say, Amen. ²⁶ Cursed is he that does not confirm all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen.

¹² that thou may enter into covenant with the LORD thy God and into his oath, which the LORD thy God makes with thee today, ¹³ to confirm thee today as his people and that he may be unto thee as God, as he has said unto thee, and as he has sworn unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. ¹⁴ Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath,

⁴ Moses commanded us law as inheritance unto the congregation of Jacob.

³¹ But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart; neither did he depart from the sins of Jeroboam, who had caused Israel to sin.

³ And the king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the LORD, that they would walk after the LORD and keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in that book. And all the people confirmed the covenant.

¹⁶ Now, therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy slave David, my father, that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel, under the condition that thy sons keep their way, walking in my law, as thou hast walked before me.

¹³ that whoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. ¹⁴ And they swore unto the LORD with a loud voice, and with shouting and with trumpets and with shofar.

³¹ And the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and that they would keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and with all their soul to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book.

¹² Then they said, We will return it and will require nothing of them; so we will do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests and caused them to sware that they should do according to this promise. ¹³ Also I shook my lap and said, Thus will God shake out each man from his house and from his labour, that does not perform this promise, even thus shall he be shaken out and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.

²⁵ And I contended with them and cursed them and smote certain of them and plucked off their hair and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.

¹⁰⁶ ¶ I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep the judgments of thy righteousness.

¹ ¶ For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob and will yet choose Israel and cause them to rest in their own land; and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.

⁴ And thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath the LORD said: If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,

²⁷ And I will put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my commandments, and ye shall keep my rights, and do them.

⁴ ¶ Remember ye the law of Moses my slave, which I commanded unto him in Horeb statutes and my rights over all Israel.

¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses, but the grace and the truth of God came through Jesus, the Christ.

¹⁹ Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do ye go about to kill me?

¹⁴ Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you.

²³ Who, when he came and had seen the grace of God, was glad and exhorted them all to remain in their purpose of heart in the Lord.

³⁴ But certain men believed and joined themselves with him, among whom was Dionysius of the Areopagus and a woman named Damaris and others with them.

¹² ¶ And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together and they vowed under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul. ¹³ And they were more than forty who had made this conspiracy. ¹⁴ And they came to the princes of the priests and the elders and said, We have made a vow of anathema that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul. ¹⁵ Now therefore ye with the council signify to the tribunal that he bring him down unto you tomorrow, as though ye would enquire something more certain concerning him, and we, before he arrives, are ready to kill him.

²¹ But do not believe them, for more than forty of them lie in wait to ambush him, who have vowed under a curse that they will neither eat nor drink until they have killed him, and now they are ready, looking for a promise from thee.

⁹ Let love be without dissimulation, abhorring that which is evil, causing you to come unto that which is good;

¹¹ ¶ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live temperately, righteously, and godly in this present world; ¹³ waiting for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, ¹⁴ who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a people of his own, zealous of good works.
