¹⁹ And they smote him on the head with a reed and spit upon him and bowing their knees worshipped him.

⁵² And it came to pass that when Abraham’s slave heard their words, he worshipped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth.

²⁸ And they answered, Thy slave our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads and made obeisance.

¹⁸ And I will cause seven thousand to remain in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which has not kissed him.

² And all the king’s slaves that were in the king’s gate, knelt down and worshipped Haman, for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai did not kneel or worship before him. ³ Then the king’s slaves, who were in the king’s gate, said unto Mordecai, Why dost thou pass over the king’s commandment? ⁴ Now it came to pass, when they spoke daily unto him, and he did not hearken unto them, that they told Haman to see whether Mordecai’s word would stand; for he had told them that he was a Jew. ⁵ And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not kneel or worship before him, then Haman was filled with wrath.

⁹ Would it be good for him to search you out? As one man mocks another, do ye so mock him?

⁸ They were sons of fools and men without names; they were lower than the earth. ⁹ And now I am their song, and I am their byword. ¹⁰ They abhor me, they distance themselves from me, and do not spare to spit in my face. ¹¹ Because God has loosed my cord and afflicted me, they have also gone out of control before my face. ¹² Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.

⁶ But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men and despised of the people. ⁷ All those that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

¹⁵ But in my adversity they rejoiced and gathered themselves together; yea, the smiters gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they tore me apart and did not cease: ¹⁶ With immature hypocritical mockers, they gnashed upon me with their teeth. ¹⁷ ¶ Lord, how long wilt thou look on? Restore my soul from their destructions, my life from the lions.

¹² They that sat in the gate spoke against me, and I was the song of the drunkards.

¹⁹ Thou hast known my reproach and my shame and my dishonour; my adversaries are all before thee. ²⁰ Reproach has broken my heart, and I am full of heaviness, and I looked for some to take pity, but there was no one, and for comforters, but I found none.

²³ I have sworn by myself; the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow; every tongue shall swear.

⁷ ¶ Thus has the LORD said, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, to him whom man despises, to him whom the Gentiles abhor, to the slave of the tyrants, Kings shall see and be raised up as princes and shall worship because of the LORD, for faithful is the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen thee.

⁶ I gave my back to the smiters and my cheeks to those that plucked off the hair: I did not hide my face from shame and spitting.

¹⁴ As many rejected thee, in such manner was his likeness and his beauty, disfigured from the sons of men:

³ He is despised and rejected among men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with weakness; and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. ⁴ ¶ Surely he has borne our sicknesses and suffered our pain: and we considered him stricken, smitten of God, and cast down. ⁵ But he was wounded for our rebellions; he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and by his stripes healing was provided for us.

¹ ¶ Now thou shalt be besieged by armies, O daughter of the army: he shall lay siege against us; they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

¹⁸ Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the princes of the priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death ¹⁹ and shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify; {Gr. stauroo – Hang on a stake}; and the third day he shall rise again.

¹² And he answered and told them, Elijah verily shall come first and restore all things and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things and be esteemed as nothing.

³⁴ and they shall mock him and shall scourge him and shall spit upon him and shall kill him; but the third day he shall rise again.

⁶⁵ And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to buffet him and to say unto him, Prophesy. And the servants struck him with the palms of their hands.

³² For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles and shall be mocked and spitefully treated and spitted on; ³³ and they shall scourge him and put him to death, but the third day he shall rise again.

⁶³ ¶ And the men that held Jesus mocked him and smote him.

¹¹ And Herod with his court despised him and mocked him and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe and sent him again to Pilate.

³⁶ And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar

⁴ But what did the answer of God say unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee before Baal.

¹⁰ But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou belittle thy brother? for we shall all stand before the tribunal of the Christ. ¹¹ For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth,

² with our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who having been offered joy, endured the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, despising the shame and was seated at the right hand of the throne of God. ³ For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself lest ye be wearied in your souls and faint.

¹³ Let us go forth, therefore, unto him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.
