³¹ And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

³ ¶ The voice of him that cries in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. ⁴ Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places made plain: ⁵ And the glory of the LORD shall be manifested, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.

¹ ¶ Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, and the angel of the covenant, whom ye desire: behold, he comes, said the LORD of the hosts.

² But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness be born, and in his wings he shall bring saving health; and ye shall go forth and jump like calves of the herd. ³ And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I make, said the LORD of the hosts. ⁴ ¶ Remember ye the law of Moses my slave, which I commanded unto him in Horeb statutes and my rights over all Israel. ⁵ Behold, I send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD:

⁶ and were baptized of him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.

³ The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord; make his paths straight. ⁴ John baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance for remission of sins. ⁵ And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea and those of Jerusalem and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.

¹⁷ And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the rebellious to the prudence of the just, to make ready a prepared people for the Lord.

⁷⁶ And thou, child, shalt be called prophet of the Most High, for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways, ⁷⁷ giving knowledge of saving health unto his people for the remission of their sins ⁷⁸ through the bowels of mercy of our God, whereby the dayspring from on high has visited us ⁷⁹ to give light to those that dwell in darkness and in the shadow of death, to direct our feet into the way of peace. ⁸⁰ And the child grew and was comforted of the Spirit and was in the deserts until the day of his showing unto Israel.

³⁹ And when they had completed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee to their own city Nazareth. ⁴⁰ And the child grew and was comforted of the Spirit, filled with wisdom and the grace of God was upon him. ⁴¹ ¶ And his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. ⁴² And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

³ And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins; ⁴ as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.

⁷ The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

³³ And I knew him not; but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on him, the same is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.

⁴ Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him who should come after him, that is, on Christ, Jesus.
