¹⁹ ¶ He is chastened also upon his bed with strong pain in all his bones,

⁵ And know in thine heart, that as a man chastens his son, so the LORD thy God chastens thee.

¹⁰ Then Asa was wroth with the seer and put him in the prison house, for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa killed some of the people at the same time.

¹² And Asa in the year thirty-nine of his reign was diseased from his feet up; yet in his disease he did not seek the LORD, but the physicians.

¹⁷ ¶ Behold, blessed is the man whom God chastens; therefore, do not despise not the correction of the Almighty. ¹⁸ For he makes sore, and binds up; he wounds, and his hands make whole.

⁴ When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise? I measure the night, and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day.

¹¹ His bones are full of the sins of his youth, which shall be buried with him in the dust.

¹⁷ My bones pierce me in the night, and my sinews take no rest.

to bring to remembrance. ¶ O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. ² For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presses me sore. ³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. ⁴ For my iniquities are gone over my head; as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. ⁵ My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. ⁶ I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long. ⁷ For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease, and there is no soundness in my flesh. ⁸ I am feeble and sore broken; I roar by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

¹² ¶ Blessed is the man whom thou dost chasten, O JAH, and teach him out of thy law,

⁶⁷ ¶ Before I was humbled, I went into error, but now I keep thy spoken word.

⁷¹ ¶ It was good for me that I have been humbled, that I might learn thy statutes.

⁹ Therefore, in this manner shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this shall be all the fruit, the removal of his sin; when he shall return all the stones of the altar, as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder that they may not raise up the groves, or the images of the sun.

¹² Have the gods of the Gentiles delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan and Haran and Rezeph and the sons of Eden which were in Telassar? ¹³ Where is the king of Hamath and the king of Arphad and the king of the city of Sepharvaim Hena, and Ivah?

³² But being judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.
