²⁰ Thus hath the LORD said; If ye can break my covenant with the day, and my covenant with the night, such that there should not be day nor night in their season,

²² While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

³⁷ It shall be established for ever as the moon and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.

¹⁹ ¶ He appointed the moon for times and seasons; the sun knows his going down. ²⁰ Thou makest darkness, and it is night, wherein all the beasts of the forest move. ²¹ The young lions roar after their prey and seek their food from God. ²² The sun arises, they withdraw and lay themselves down in their dens. ²³ Man goes forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.

⁹ For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so I have sworn that I would not be wroth again with thee, nor reprehend thee. ¹⁰ For the mountains shall be removed, and the hills shall tremble; but my mercy shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be changed, said the LORD that has mercy on thee.

³⁵ ¶ Thus hath the LORD said, who gives the sun for light by day, and the laws of the moon and of the stars for light by night, who divides the sea and the waves thereof roar; The LORD of the hosts is his name; ³⁶ If these laws depart from before me, said the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. ³⁷ Thus hath the LORD said: If the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, said the LORD.

²⁵ Thus hath the LORD said: If my covenant remains not with the day and the night, and if I have not appointed the laws of the heaven and the earth, ²⁶ then I will cast away the seed of Jacob and David my slave, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob; for I will cause their captivity to turn, and I will have mercy on them.
