A testimony of Asaph: A Psalm. ¶ Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubim, shine forth.

¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God before he causes darkness and before your feet stumble in mountains of darkness, and while ye look for light, he turns it into the shadow of death and makes it gross darkness.

⁴ And the glory of the LORD had gone up from the cherubim to the threshold of the door, and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD’s glory.

³ ¶ God shall come from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was filled with his praise. ⁴ And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand; and there was hidden his strength.

⁷ and I will shake all the Gentiles; and the desire of all the Gentiles shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, said the LORD of the hosts. ⁸ The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, said the LORD of the hosts. ⁹ The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, said the LORD of the hosts, and in this place I will give peace, said the LORD of the hosts.

² But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness be born, and in his wings he shall bring saving health; and ye shall go forth and jump like calves of the herd.

¹⁴ Let them alone; they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into a pit.

¹⁹ Ye fools and blind, for which one is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?

²⁴ Ye blind guides, who strain at a gnat and swallow a camel.

¹ ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with the God, and the Word was God.

¹⁴ And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.

²³ For as I passed by and beheld your sanctuaries, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him I declare unto you.

³⁰ For the times of this ignorance God overlooked, but he now commands all men everywhere to repent ³¹ because he has appointed a day, in which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he has ordained; of whom he has given assurance unto all men in that he has raised him from the dead.

¹⁸ to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and inheritance among those who are sanctified by the faith that is in me.

²¹ because having known God, they did not glorify him as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. ²² Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools ²³ and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man and of birds and of fourfooted beasts and of serpents. ²⁴ Therefore God also gave them over to the lusts of their own hearts for uncleanness, to contaminate their own bodies between themselves, ²⁵ who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for all ages. Amen. ²⁶ For this cause God gave them up unto shameful affections, for even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature; ²⁷ and likewise also the males, leaving the natural use of the females, burned in their lust one toward another, males with males committing nefarious works and receiving in themselves the recompense that proceeded from their error. ²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a perverse understanding, to do those things which are not convenient, ²⁹ being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, ³⁰ backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, ³¹ without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, without mercy. ³² Who having understood the righteousness of God, they did not understand that those who do such things are worthy of death, not only those that do the same, but even those who encourage those that do them.

¹⁸ Therefore we all, beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord with uncovered face, are transformed from glory to glory into the same likeness, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

⁴ In whom the god of this age has blinded the understanding of those who do not believe, that the light of the gospel of the glory of the Christ, who is the image of God, should not shine in them. ⁵ For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your slaves for Jesus’ sake. ⁶ For the God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to bring forth the light of the knowledge of the clarity of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

¹⁷ ¶ This I say, therefore, and require in the Lord that from now on ye not walk as the other Gentiles walk in the vanity of their own senses, ¹⁸ having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them because of the blindness of their heart, ¹⁹ who, after losing all sense of feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness to work all uncleanness with greediness. ²⁰ But ye have not so learned of the Christ,

¹³ who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son,

² has in these last times spoken unto us by his Son, whom he has appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the ages; ³ who being the brightness of his glory and the express image of his substance and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

⁹ But ye are the chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, an acquired people, that ye should show forth the virtues of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.
