³ ¶ Neither let the son of the stranger that has joined himself to the LORD speak, saying, The LORD shall utterly separate me from his people: nor let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree.

⁴ And they shall join themselves unto thee and keep the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony in all the service of the tabernacle; and no stranger shall come near unto you.

⁷ Therefore thou and thy sons with thee shall keep your priesthood for every thing of the altar and within the veil, and ye shall minister; for I have given the service of your priesthood as a gift, and the stranger that comes near shall die.

¹ ¶ He that is wounded in the stones or is castrated shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD. ² A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD. ³ An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD for ever,

¹ ¶ For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob and will yet choose Israel and cause them to rest in their own land; and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.

⁷ And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

⁵ even unto them will I give in my house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall never be cut off.

⁷ Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs which was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon; the king was then sitting in the gate of Benjamin, ⁸ Ebedmelech went forth out of the king’s house and spoke to the king, saying, ⁹ My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is, for there is no more bread in the city. ¹⁰ Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from here thirty men with thee and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon before he dies. ¹¹ So Ebedmelech took the men with him and went into the house of the king under the treasury and took from there old cast clouts and old rotten rags and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah. ¹² And Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said unto Jeremiah, Put now these old cast clouts and rotten rags under thine armholes under the cords. And Jeremiah did so. ¹³ So they drew up Jeremiah with cords and took him up out of the dungeon; and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

¹⁶ Go and speak to Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel said: Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished in that day before thee. ¹⁷ But I will deliver thee in that day, said the LORD, and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid.

⁵ They shall ask the way to Zion, unto where they shall turn their faces, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in an eternal covenant that shall never be forgotten.

³ And the king spoke unto Ashpenaz the prince of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the sons of Israel of the royal lineage of the princes, ⁴ young men in whom there was no blemish whatsoever but who were good looking and taught in all wisdom and wise in knowledge and of good understanding, and that had strength in them to stand in the king’s palace, that they might be taught the letters and speech of the Chaldeans. ⁵ And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s food and of the wine which he drank, so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king. ⁶ Now among these of the sons of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: ⁷ unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego. ⁸ ¶ And Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s food, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. ⁹ (And God brought Daniel into grace and mercy with the prince of the eunuchs.) ¹⁰ And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink; for when he shall see your faces more downcast than the other young men who are like unto you, then ye shall condemn my head before the king. ¹¹ Then Daniel said to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, ¹² Prove, now, with thy slaves ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. ¹³ Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenances of the young men that eat of the portion of the king’s food; and as thou seest, deal with thy slaves. ¹⁴ So he consented to them in this matter and proved them ten days. ¹⁵ And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than the young men who ate the portion of the king’s food. ¹⁶ Thus Melzar took the portion of their food and the wine that they should drink and gave them vegetables. ¹⁷ ¶ And unto these four young men, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in all letters and science; furthermore Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. ¹⁸ Now at the end of the days after which the king had said he should bring them in, the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. ¹⁹ And the king communed with them, and none among them all was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; and therefore they stood before the king. ²⁰ And in all matters of wisdom and intelligence, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm. ²¹ And Daniel continued even unto the first year of King Cyrus.

¹¹ The LORD shall be terrible against them for he will weaken all the gods of the earth; and each one from his place shall worship him, even all the isles of the Gentiles.

²⁰ Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, It shall yet come to pass that there shall come people and the inhabitants of many cities ²¹ and the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go to pray before the LORD and to seek the LORD of the hosts. And the other will respond: I will go also. ²² And many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of the hosts in Jerusalem and to pray before the LORD. ²³ Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, In those days it shall come to pass that ten men of all the languages of the Gentiles shall take hold of the robe of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.

¹⁰ When Jesus heard it, he marvelled and said to those that followed, Verily I say unto you that not even in Israel have I found such faith. ¹¹ But I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west and shall sit down at the table with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of the heavens.

²⁶ But he answered and said, It is not good to take the children’s bread and to cast it to the little dogs. ²⁷ And she said, Yes, Lord, yet the little dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.

¹² For there are some eunuchs who were so born from their mother’s womb; and there are some eunuchs who were made eunuchs of men; and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs because of the kingdom of the heavens. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it. ¹³ ¶ Then were there brought unto him little children that he should put his hands on them and pray, and the disciples rebuked them. ¹⁴ But Jesus said, Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of the heavens. ¹⁵ And he laid his hands on them and departed from there. ¹⁶ ¶ And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life? ¹⁷ And he said unto him, Why dost thou call me good? There is none good but one, that is, God, but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. ¹⁸ He said unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt not murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, ¹⁹ Honour thy father and thy mother, and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. ²⁰ The young man said unto him, All these things I have kept from my youth up; what do I lack? ²¹ Jesus said unto him, If thou desire to be perfect, go and sell what thou hast and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come and follow me. ²² But when the young man heard that word, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. ²³ ¶ Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, It is difficult that a rich man shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens. ²⁴ And again I say unto you, It is easier to put a cable through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. ²⁵ But his disciples hearing these things were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? ²⁶ But Jesus beheld them and said unto them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. ²⁷ Then Peter answered and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? ²⁸ And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, to judge the twelve tribes of Israel. ²⁹ And every one that has forsaken houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for my name’s sake shall receive a hundredfold and shall inherit eternal life. ³⁰ But many that are first shall be last, and many of the last shall be first.

⁶ Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself, for I am not worthy that thou should enter under my roof; ⁷ therefore neither did I think myself worthy to come unto thee but say the word, and my slave shall be healed. ⁸ For I also am a man set under authority, having soldiers under me, and I say unto one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my slave, Do this, and he does it.

²⁶ ¶ And the angel of the Lord spoke unto Philip, saying, Arise and go toward the south unto the way that goes down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. ²⁷ Then he arose and went, and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure and had come to Jerusalem to worship, ²⁸ was returning and sitting in his chariot reading Isaiah the prophet. ²⁹ Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near and join thyself to this chariot. ³⁰ And Philip ran there to him and heard him read the prophet Isaiah and said, Dost thou understand what thou readest? ³¹ And he said, How can I, except someone should guide me? And he besought Philip to come up and sit with him. ³² The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter, and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth; ³³ in his humiliation his judgment was taken away, and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. ³⁴ And the eunuch answered Philip and said, I pray thee, of whom does the prophet speak this? of himself or of some other? ³⁵ Then Philip opened his mouth and began at the same scripture and preached unto him the gospel of Jesus. ³⁶ And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water; and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what hinders me to be baptized? ³⁷ And Philip said, If thou dost believe with all thine heart, thou may. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. ³⁸ And he commanded the chariot to stand still, and they went both down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. ³⁹ And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, so that the eunuch saw him no more, and he went on his way rejoicing. ⁴⁰ But Philip was found at Azotus, and passing through, he preached the gospel in all the cities until he came to Caesarea.

¹ ¶ There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the company called the Italian, ² a devout man and one that feared God with all his house, who gave many alms to the people and prayed to God always.

³⁴ ¶ Then Peter opened his mouth and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons;

⁴⁷ For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles that thou should be for saving health unto the ends of the earth. ⁴⁸ And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord, and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

⁴ And some of them believed and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the noble women not a few.

⁷ ¶ And he departed from there and entered into a certain man’s house, named Titus the Just, one that feared God, whose house was next to the synagogue.

¹⁰ but glory, honour, and peace to everyone that works good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. ¹¹ For there is no respect of persons with God.

⁹ but that the Gentiles glorify God by mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess thee among the Gentiles and sing unto thy name. ¹⁰ And again he says, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. ¹¹ And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and magnify him, all the peoples. ¹² And again, Isaiah says, There shall be a root of Jesse and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him the Gentiles shall wait for salvation.

¹⁶ being the minister of Jesus Christ, to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering of the Gentiles might be well pleasing, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

¹⁷ But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

¹² that at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world,

²² in whom ye also are being built together for the habitation of God in the Spirit.

¹ ¶ Peter, apostle of Jesus, the Christ, to the strangers scattered in Pontus, in Galatia, in Cappadocia, in Asia, and in Bithynia,
