² with our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who having been offered joy, endured the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, despising the shame and was seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

⁹ Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices: my flesh also shall rest secure. ¹⁰ For thou wilt not leave my soul in Sheol; neither wilt thou suffer thy Merciful One to see corruption. ¹¹ Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; in thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

⁶ But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men and despised of the people. ⁷ All those that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, ⁸ Turn him over to the LORD, let him deliver him, let him save him, seeing he delighted in him.

¹⁹ Thou hast known my reproach and my shame and my dishonour; my adversaries are all before thee. ²⁰ Reproach has broken my heart, and I am full of heaviness, and I looked for some to take pity, but there was no one, and for comforters, but I found none.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

⁸ The LORD will perfect that which concerns me; thy mercy, O LORD, endures for ever; forsake not the works of thine own hands.

¹⁷ And I will wait for the LORD, who hid his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

¹ ¶ Woe to those that go down to Egypt for help; and trust in horses and place their hope in chariots because they are many and in horsemen, because they are valiant, but they did not look unto the Holy One of Israel, neither did they seek the LORD!

²² Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no one else.

⁶ And he said, It is a light thing that thou should be my slave to wake up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the desolations of Israel; I have also given thee for a light to the Gentiles that thou may be my saving health unto the end of the earth. ⁷ ¶ Thus has the LORD said, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, to him whom man despises, to him whom the Gentiles abhor, to the slave of the tyrants, Kings shall see and be raised up as princes and shall worship because of the LORD, for faithful is the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen thee.

⁶ I gave my back to the smiters and my cheeks to those that plucked off the hair: I did not hide my face from shame and spitting. ⁷ For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore, I was not ashamed; therefore, I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

³ He is despised and rejected among men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with weakness; and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

¹⁰ ¶ With all this the LORD chose to bruise him; subjecting him to grief. When he shall have offered his soul for atonement, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the will of the LORD shall be prospered in his hand. ¹¹ He shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied. And by his knowledge shall my righteous slave justify many, for he shall bear their iniquities. ¹² Therefore I will divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil unto the strong because he has poured out his soul unto death, and he was numbered with the rebellious, having born the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

⁷ ¶ Therefore I will wait for the LORD; I will wait for the God of my saving health; my God will hear me.

¹⁰ And I will pour upon the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and of prayer, and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn over him as one mourns for his only son, afflicting themselves over him as one afflicts himself over his firstborn.

²¹ ¶ From that time forth Jesus began to declare unto his disciples, how it was expedient for him to go unto Jerusalem and to suffer many things of the elders and the princes of the priests and of the scribes and to be killed and to be raised again the third day.

¹⁸ Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the princes of the priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death ¹⁹ and shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify; {Gr. stauroo – Hang on a stake}; and the third day he shall rise again. ²⁰ ¶ Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, worshipping him and desiring a certain thing of him.

²⁸ even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.

⁶⁷ Then they spit in his face and buffeted him, and others smote him with the staves, ⁶⁸ saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ; who is he that smote thee?

²⁷ Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers. ²⁸ And they stripped him and put on him a scarlet robe. ²⁹ And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head and a reed in his right hand; and they bowed the knee before him and mocked him, saying, Receive joy, King of the Jews! ³⁰ And they spit upon him and took the reed and smote him on the head. ³¹ And after they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him and put his own raiment on him and led him away to crucify him. ³² And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name; him they compelled to bear his cross {Gr. stauros – stake}. ³³ ¶ And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, the place of a skull, ³⁴ they gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall; and when he had tasted of it, he would not drink. ³⁵ And they crucified him and parted his garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my raiment did they cast lots. ³⁶ And sitting down they watched him there ³⁷ and set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. ³⁸ Then there were two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand and another on the left. ³⁹ And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads ⁴⁰ and saying, Thou that wouldst destroy the temple and build it in three days, save thyself. If thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}. ⁴¹ Likewise also the princes of the priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, ⁴² He saved others; he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}, and we will believe him. ⁴³ He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him, for he said, I am the Son of God. ⁴⁴ The thieves also, who were crucified with him, reproached him with the same. ⁴⁵ Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. ⁴⁶ And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? That is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? ⁴⁷ Some of those that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calls for Elijah. ⁴⁸ And straightway one of them ran and took a sponge and filled it with vinegar and put it on a reed and gave him to drink. ⁴⁹ The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him. ⁵⁰ ¶ But Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, gave the spirit.

¹² And he answered and told them, Elijah verily shall come first and restore all things and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things and be esteemed as nothing.

²⁴ And straightway the father of the child crying out with tears, said, Lord, I believe; help thou my unbelief.

³⁶ And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me; nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

⁵ And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.

¹¹ And Herod with his court despised him and mocked him and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe and sent him again to Pilate.

³⁵ And the people stood beholding. And the princes also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Christ, the chosen of God. ³⁶ And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar ³⁷ and saying, If thou art the king of the Jews, save thyself. ³⁸ And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek and Latin and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. ³⁹ And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou art the Christ, save thyself and us.

²⁶ ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter (like this) into his glory?

²⁹ ¶ The next day John saw Jesus coming unto him and said, Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.

⁴⁰ And this is the will of him that sent me, That every one who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I will raise him up in the last day.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day, and he saw it and was glad.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except the grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone; but if it dies, it brings forth much fruit.

²⁷ ¶ Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour, but for this have I come in this hour. ²⁸ Father, clarify thy name. Then there came a voice from the heaven, saying, I have clarified it and will clarify it again.

³² And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

³ Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he had come from God and was going to God,

³¹ ¶ Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man clarified, and God is clarified in him. ³² If God is clarified in him, God shall also clarify him in himself and shall straightway clarify him.

¹ ¶ Jesus spoke these words and lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, Father, the hour is come; clarify thy Son, that thy Son may also clarify thee, ² as thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. ³ And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. ⁴ I have clarified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou didst give me to do.

²⁵ For David speaks concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved, ²⁶ therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover even my flesh shall rest in hope

³⁶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

³¹ God has exalted him with his right hand as Prince and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

⁴¹ And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

⁷ so that ye lack nothing in any gift, waiting for the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ, ⁸ who shall also confirm that ye shall remain unimpeachable unto the end, in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁶ and to reconcile both with God by the cross {Gr. stauros – stake} in one body, having slain the enmity thereby;

² and walk in charity even as the Christ also has loved us and has given himself for us as an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.

⁶ being confident of this very thing, that he who has begun a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ.

⁸ and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross {Gr. stauros – stake}. ⁹ Therefore, God also has highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name, ¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth, ¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is Lord in the glory of God the Father.

²⁰ For our citizenship is in heaven, from where we also look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

⁸ from now on there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but unto all those also that have loved his appearing.

¹³ waiting for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, ¹⁴ who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a people of his own, zealous of good works.

³ who being the brightness of his glory and the express image of his substance and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

¹³ But to which of the angels did he say at any time, Sit on my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool?

⁷ Thou didst make him a little lower than the angels; thou didst crown him with glory and honour and didst set him over the works of thy hands. ⁸ Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not see yet that all things are put under him. ⁹ But we see this same Jesus, crowned with glory and honour, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. ¹⁰ ¶ For it was expedient that he, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, preparing to bring forth many sons in his glory, should perfect the author of their saving health through sufferings.

⁹ and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal saving health unto all those that hearken unto him,

¹⁹ for the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did, by which we draw near unto God.

¹ ¶ Now of the things which we have spoken, this is the sum: We have such a high priest who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

²⁸ so also the Christ is offered once to take away the sins of many; and unto those that wait for him without sin he shall appear the second time unto saving health.

⁵ Therefore when he came into the world, he said, Sacrifice and offering thou dost not desire, but a body hast thou prepared me; ⁶ in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. ⁷ ¶ Then said I, Behold, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me) to do thy will, O God. ⁸ Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou dost not desire, neither hadst pleasure therein, which are offered by the law; ⁹ then he said, Behold, I come to do thy will, O God. He took away the first, that he may establish the second. ¹⁰ In this will, we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus, the Christ, once for all. ¹¹ And so every priest stands daily ministering and offering many times the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins, ¹² but this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, is seated at the right hand of God,

¹⁴ For by one offering he has perfected for ever those that are sanctified.

³³ on the one hand ye were made a spectacle both by reproaches and tribulations, and on the other ye became companions of those that were so used.

³⁶ and others experienced cruel mockings and scourgings, and added to this, bonds and imprisonment;

³ For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself lest ye be wearied in your souls and faint.

¹³ Let us go forth, therefore, unto him outside the camp, bearing his reproach.

¹¹ searching when and in what point of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, which announced beforehand the afflictions that were to come upon the Christ, and the glory that should follow them.

²³ who, when he was cursed, did not return the curse; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but committed himself to him that judges righteously; ²⁴ he himself bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness; by whose wound ye were healed.

¹⁸ ¶ For the Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in spirit,

²² who is at the right hand of God, having ascended into heaven, unto whom the angels and the authorities and powers are subject.

¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; for the glory and the Spirit of God rests upon you; certainly on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified. ¹⁵ So let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as desirous of the things of others. ¹⁶ But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf.

¹ ¶ That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life ² (for the life is manifested, and we also saw it and bear witness and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father and appeared unto us); ³ that which we have seen and heard we declare unto you, that ye also may have communion with us; and truly our communion is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.

²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, unto eternal life,

⁸ I AM the Alpha and the Omega, beginning and end, saith the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

¹¹ that said, I AM the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, and What thou seest, write in a book and send it unto the seven congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} which are in Asia: unto Ephesus and unto Smyrna and unto Pergamos and unto Thyatira and unto Sardis and unto Philadelphia and unto Laodicea.

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I AM the first and the last,

⁸ ¶ And unto the angel of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of Smyrna write: These things, saith the first and the last, who was dead, and is alive:
