⁴ Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah and troubled them in building

³ And they set the altar upon its bases, for fear was upon them because of the peoples of those lands, and they offered burnt offerings upon it unto the LORD, even burnt offerings morning and evening.

⁷ ¶ And it came to pass when Sanballat and Tobiah and the Arabians and the Ammonites and the Ashdodites heard that the walls of Jerusalem were sound and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth ⁸ and conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem and to hinder it.

¹¹ And our adversaries said, They shall not know or see until we come in the midst among them and slay them and cause the work to cease.

⁹ For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it not be done. Now, therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.

³ Comfort ye the tired hands and strengthen the knees that tremble. ⁴ Say to those that are of a fearful heart, Be comforted, fear not; behold, your God comes with vengeance, with recompense; God himself will come and save you.

⁴ Therefore the princes said unto the king, We beseech thee, let this man be put to death: for thus he weakens the hands of the men of war that remain in this city and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words unto them; for this man does not seek the peace of this people, but the hurt.
