¹¹ setting afterward the empty pot upon the coals thereof that it may become red hot and may burn and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the scum of it may be consumed.

²⁵ and I will turn my hand upon thee and according to pureness purge away thy dross and take away all thy tin;

⁴ When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment and by the spirit of burning.

⁹ Therefore, in this manner shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this shall be all the fruit, the removal of his sin; when he shall return all the stones of the altar, as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder that they may not raise up the groves, or the images of the sun.

¹⁰ For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith the LORD; it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.

²⁹ and the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured out drink offerings unto other gods, to provoke me to anger.

¹⁰ For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up each man from his tent and burn this city with fire.

¹⁸ but if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, then this city shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.

⁸ And the Chaldeans burned the king’s house and the houses of the people with fire and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.

¹³ and burned the house of the LORD and the king’s house and all the houses of Jerusalem, and every great house he burned with fire:

³⁸ and I will purge out from among you the rebels and those that rebelled against me; I will take them out of the country where they have gone, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

¹⁵ And I will scatter thee among the Gentiles and disperse thee in the countries and will consume thy filthiness out of thee. ¹⁶ And thou shalt take thine inheritance in thyself in the sight of the Gentiles, and thou shalt know that I am the LORD. ¹⁷ ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, ¹⁸ Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross; they are all brass and tin and iron and lead in the midst of the furnace; they are become the dross of silver. ¹⁹ Therefore thus hath the Lord GOD said: Because ye are all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. ²⁰ As they gather silver and brass and iron and lead and tin into the midst of the furnace to blow the fire upon it to melt it, so will I gather you in my anger and in my fury, and I will cause you to rest, and melt you. ²¹ I will gather you and blow upon you in the fire of my wrath, and ye shall be melted in the midst thereof. ²² As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so shall ye be melted in the midst thereof; and ye shall know that I the LORD have poured out my fury upon you. ²³ ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

²⁶ They shall also strip thee out of thy clothes and take away the vessels of thy glory. ²⁷ Thus will I make thy lewdness to cease from thee and thy whoredom of the land of Egypt, so that thou shalt not lift up thine eyes unto them, nor remember Egypt any more.

⁴⁷ And the company shall stone them with stones and dispatch them with their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daughters and burn up their houses with fire. ⁴⁸ Thus will I cause the lust to cease out of the land that all women may be taught not to do after your lewdness.

²⁵ ¶ And I will sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be cleansed from all your filthiness, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.

¹¹ and I will cause all the cities of thy land to be destroyed, and I will cause all thy fortresses to be destroyed: ¹² and I will cause the witchcrafts to be destroyed by thy hand; and no more soothsayers shall be found in thee: ¹³ and I will cause thy graven images and thy images to be destroyed out of the midst of thee; and never again shalt thou worship the work of thine hands. ¹⁴ And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee; so will I destroy thy cities.

¹ ¶ In that time there shall be an open fountain for the house of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem against sin and against uncleanness. ² And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of the hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no longer be remembered; and I will also cause the prophets and the spirit of uncleanness to be cut off out of the land.

⁸ And it shall come to pass that in all the land, said the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off in her and shall be lost; but the third shall be left therein. ⁹ And I will put the third part into the fire and will refine them as silver is refined and will try them as gold is tried; He shall call on my name, and I will hear him; I will say, My people, and he shall say, The LORD is my God.

¹ ¶ For, behold, the day comes that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, and all that do wickedly shall be stubble; and the day that comes shall burn them up, said the LORD of the hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

¹² whose fan is in his hand; and he will thoroughly purge his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the storehouse, but he will burn up the chaff with fire that shall never be quenched.

¹² Now if anyone builds upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble, ¹³ the work of each one shall be made manifest, for the day shall declare it because it shall be revealed by fire; the work of each one, whatever sort it is, the fire shall put it to test.
