²² And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this;

³ Then Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh and said unto him, Thus hath the LORD God of the Hebrews said, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? Let my people go that they may serve me.

²³ But he never humbled himself before the LORD as Manasseh, his father, humbled himself; to the contrary Amon multiplied the guilt.

¹² And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God and did not humble himself before Jeremiah, the prophet, who spoke unto him from the mouth of the LORD.

²⁹ Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We must persuade God rather than men. ³⁰ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew, hanging him on a tree. ³¹ God has exalted him with his right hand as Prince and Saviour, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. ³² And we are his witnesses of these things, and so is also the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those that persuade him. ³³ When they heard that, they were divided and took counsel to slay them.

⁶ But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.

¹⁷ Therefore sin is still in the one that knows to do good and does not do it.

⁵ ¶ Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. ⁶ Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,
