⁵ Moreover thou knowest also what Joab, the son of Zeruiah, did to me and what he did to the two captains of the host of Israel, unto Abner, the son of Ner and unto Amasa, the son of Jether, whom he slew, shedding the blood of war in peace and putting the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins and in his shoes that were on his feet. ⁶ Do, therefore, according to thy wisdom and let not his hoar head go down to Sheol in peace.

³¹ And the king said unto him, Do as he has said and fall upon him and bury him that thou may take away from me and from the house of my father the blood which Joab shed without a cause. ³² And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he and slew them with the sword without my father David knowing of it: Abner, the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa, the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah. ³³ Their blood shall, therefore, return upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever; but upon David and upon his seed and upon his house and upon his throne shall there be peace for ever from the LORD. ³⁴ So Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, went up and fell upon him and slew him, and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.

And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the washer’s field.

³² Therefore, thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city nor shoot an arrow there nor come before it with shield nor cast a bank against it.

³ then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;

¹⁷ ¶ The highway of the upright is to separate himself from evil; he that keeps his way preserves his soul.

¹⁴ ¶ To release the waters (to speak rashly) is the beginning of contention; therefore, leave off strife before it gets started.

²¹ ¶ My son, fear the LORD and the king, and do not meddle with those that are given to change, ²² for their calamity shall rise suddenly; and the ruin of them both, who shall know it?

⁸ ¶ Do not go forth hastily to strive lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof when thy neighbour has put thee to shame.

²¹ Charcoal for burning coals and wood for fire, and a contentious man to kindle strife.

²⁴ ¶ He that hates dissembles with his lips and lays up deceit within him; ²⁵ when he speaks fair, do not believe him, for there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ Even though his hatred is covered up in the desert, his wickedness shall be showed before the whole congregation.

¹³ ¶ He that covers his sins shall not prosper, but whosoever confesses and forsakes them shall attain mercy.

¹⁹ Wisdom strengthens the wise more than ten mighty men who are in the city.

¹¹ Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

¹³ ¶ I have also seen this wisdom under the sun, which is important unto me: ¹⁴ There was a little city and few men within it; and a great king came against it and besieged it and built great bulwarks against it; ¹⁵ now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no one remembered that same poor man. ¹⁶ Then I said, Wisdom is better than strength: even though the poor man’s knowledge is despised, and his words are not heard. ¹⁷ The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that rules among fools. ¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.

³ Then the LORD said unto Isaiah, Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou and Shearjashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the washer’s field

¹⁰ ¶ Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; clear up, clear up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up a banner as an example for the people.

¹⁵ For the voice is heard from him who brings the news from Dan and from him who causes to hear the affliction from Mount Ephraim.

⁶ For thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, Hew ye down trees and cast a mount against Jerusalem; this is the city that all of her is to be visited; there is violence in the midst of her.

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who shall know it?

²¹ Establish signs, make thee high markers; consider the highway with great care, even the way which thou didst come; return, O virgin of Israel, return unto these thy cities.

²⁴ Behold the siege engines are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans that fight against it because of the sword and of the famine and of the pestilence, and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, thou dost see it.

⁴ For thus hath the LORD the God of Israel said concerning the houses of this city and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are thrown down by the siege engines and by the sword

¹⁹ And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon Mount Ephraim and Gilead.

³⁴ Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me; he has made me an empty vessel, he has swallowed me up like a dragon; he has filled his belly with my delicates; he has cast me out.

⁴⁴ And I will visit Bel himself in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he has swallowed up; and the Gentiles shall not flow together any more unto him; and the wall of Babylon shall fall.

² Beth The Lord has destroyed and has not forgiven; he has destroyed in his wrath all the habitations of Jacob; he has thrown down to the ground the strong holds of the daughter of Judah; he has polluted the kingdom and its princes.

⁵ He The Lord was as an enemy, he has destroyed Israel; he has destroyed all her palaces; he has dissipated his strong holds and has multiplied in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.

¹⁶ Pe All thine enemies opened their mouths regarding thee; they whistled and gnashed their teeth; they said, Swallow her up; certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found it, we have seen it.

² and lay siege against it and build a fort against it and cast a mount against it; set the camp also against it, and set battering rams against it round about.

⁴⁵ Thou art thy mother’s daughter that discarded her husband and her children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters who discarded their husbands and their children: your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite. ⁴⁶ And thine elder sister is Samaria with her daughters that dwell at thy left hand; and thy younger sister that dwells at thy right hand is Sodom with her daughters. ⁴⁷ Yet thou hast not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations; but, as if that were a very little thing, thou wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways. ⁴⁸ As I live, said the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister has never done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters. ⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom: pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the afflicted and needy.

² The merciful man of the earth is missing: and there is no one upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt each man his brother with a net.

¹² ¶ Art thou not from the beginning, O LORD my God, my Holy One? we shall not die, O LORD, thou hast ordained him for judgment, and thou hast established him strong for chastisement. ¹³ Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil and canst not look on iniquity: why dost thou look upon those that deal treacherously and hold thy tongue when the wicked devour the man that is more righteous than he?

⁴⁸ Now he that betrayed him had given them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; hold him fast. ⁴⁹ And forthwith he came to Jesus and said, Receive joy, master; and kissed him.

⁴⁶ ¶ And so they come to Jericho, and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.

²⁹ But he, desiring to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him and sent an embassy after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

²⁷ Moreover, those enemies of mine, who were unwilling that I should reign over them, bring them here and slay them before me.

⁴³ For the days shall come upon thee that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee and compass thee round and constrain thee on every side

⁴⁷ ¶ And while he yet spoke, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him. ⁴⁸ But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

⁶⁶ After this, many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him. ⁶⁷ Then Jesus said unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? ⁶⁸ Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

¹⁸ He, therefore, purchased a field with the reward of his iniquity; and hanging himself, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. ¹⁹ And it was known unto all the dwellers of Jerusalem, in such a manner that the field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

²³ Who, when he came and had seen the grace of God, was glad and exhorted them all to remain in their purpose of heart in the Lord.

³ For the magistrates are not a terror unto those who do good, but to the doer of evil. Is thy desire therefore to not fear the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same; ⁴ for he is a minister of God for thy good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain, for he is a minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that does evil.

⁵⁴ So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the word that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

⁴ For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened, for we do not desire to be unclothed, but to be clothed upon with life swallowing up that which is mortal.

² for kings, and for all that are in authority that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and integrity.
