⁴ Answer not a fool according to his folly lest you also be likened to him - even you;

THE EPHRAYIM FEEL SLIGHTED
And they summon the men of Ephrayim; and they pass over northward and say to Yiphtach, Why pass you over to fight the sons of Ammon and call not us to go with you? We burn your house on you with fire! ² And Yiphtach says to them, I became a man of mighty strife - I and my people with the sons of Ammon; and when I cried to you, you saved me not from their hands; ³ and when I saw you saved me not, I set my soul in my palms and passed over against the sons of Ammon; and Yah Veh gives them into my hand. Why then ascend you to me this day, to fight me? ⁴
JUDGE YIPHTACH FIGHTS EPHRAYIM
Then Yiphtach gathers all the men of Gilad and fights Ephrayim: and the men of Gilad smite Ephrayim, because they say, You Giladiy are escapees of Ephrayim among the Ephrayimiy and among the Menash Shiy. ⁵ And the Giladiy capture the passages of Yarden in front of the Ephrayimiy: and so be it, when those Ephrayimiy escapees say, Let me pass over! that the men of Gilad say to him, Are you an Ephrayim? If he says, No! ⁶ then they say to him, Say now Shibboleth: and he says Sibboleth: for he prepares not to word right: and they hold him and slaughter him at the passages of Yarden: and there falls at that time of the Ephrayimiy forty-two thousand.

⁴¹ And behold, all the men of Yisra El come to the sovereign and say to the sovereign, Why have our brothers the men of Yah Hudah stolen you away - and pass the sovereign and his household and all the men of David with him over Yarden? ⁴² And all the men of Yah Hudah answer the men of Yisra El, Because the sovereign is near to us: Why then inflame you for this word? In eating, eat we that of the sovereign? Bears he us any offering? ⁴³ And the men of Yisra El answer the men of Yah Hudah and say, We have ten hands in the sovereign and we have also more in David than you. Why then belittle you us, that our word be not first to return our sovereign? - and the words of the men of Yah Hudah are harder than the words of the men of Yisra El.

¹⁴ and words to them after the counsel of the children, saying, My father made your yoke heavy and I - I add to your yoke: my father disciplined you with whips, and I - I discipline you with scorpions.

THE SOVEREIGNDOM DIVIDED
And all Yisra El sees that the sovereign hearkens not to them, and the people return word to the sovereign, saying, What allotment have we in David? Yes, there is no inheritance in the son of Yishay: to your tents, O Yisra El! Now see to your own house, O David. - and Yisra El goes to their tents.

⁸ Then Amaz Yah sends angels to Yah Ash son of Yah Achaz son of Yah Hu sovereign of Yisra El, saying, Come! See one another in the face! ⁹ And Yah Ash the sovereign of Yisra El sends to Amaz Yah sovereign of Yah Hudah, saying, The thorn in Lebanon sends to the cedar in Lebanon, saying, Give your daughter to my son to woman: and a live being of the field passes by in Lebanon and tramples the thorn: ¹⁰ in smiting, you smote Edom and your heart lifts you: be honored and settle at your house: for why coax you to evil only, to fall - you and Yah Hudah with you?

¹⁴ The beginning of strife is as a bursting of water leave off contention ere it faces a quarrel.
