THE EPHRAYIM FEEL SLIGHTED
And they summon the men of Ephrayim; and they pass over northward and say to Yiphtach, Why pass you over to fight the sons of Ammon and call not us to go with you? We burn your house on you with fire! 2 And Yiphtach says to them, I became a man of mighty strife - I and my people with the sons of Ammon; and when I cried to you, you saved me not from their hands; 3 and when I saw you saved me not, I set my soul in my palms and passed over against the sons of Ammon; and Yah Veh gives them into my hand. Why then ascend you to me this day, to fight me? 4
JUDGE YIPHTACH FIGHTS EPHRAYIM
Then Yiphtach gathers all the men of Gilad and fights Ephrayim: and the men of Gilad smite Ephrayim, because they say, You Giladiy are escapees of Ephrayim among the Ephrayimiy and among the Menash Shiy. 5 And the Giladiy capture the passages of Yarden in front of the Ephrayimiy: and so be it, when those Ephrayimiy escapees say, Let me pass over! that the men of Gilad say to him, Are you an Ephrayim? If he says, No! 6 then they say to him, Say now Shibboleth: and he says Sibboleth: for he prepares not to word right: and they hold him and slaughter him at the passages of Yarden: and there falls at that time of the Ephrayimiy forty-two thousand.
