¹ And the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying: ² Thus saith the Lord of hosts: I have been jealous for Sion with a great jealousy, and with a great indignation have I been jealous for her. ³ Thus saith the Lord of hosts: I am returned to Sion, and I will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called The city of truth, and the mountain of the Lord of hosts, The sanctified mountain. ⁴ Thus saith the Lord of hosts: There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem: and every man with his staff in his hand through multitude of days. ⁵ And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls, playing in the streets thereo. ⁶ Thus saith the Lord of hosts: If it seem hard in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days: shall it be hard in my eyes, saith the Lord of hosts? ⁷ Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Behold I will save my people from the land of the east, and from the land of the going down of the sun. ⁸ And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God in truth and in justice. ⁹ Thus saith the Lord of hosts: Let your hands be strengthened, you that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, in the day that the house of the Lord of hosts was founded, that the temple might be built. ¹⁰ For before those days there was no hire for men, neither was there hire for beasts, neither was there peace to him that came in, nor to him that went out, because of the tribulation: and I let all men go every one against his neighbour. ¹¹ But now I will not deal with the remnant of this people according to the former days, saith the Lord of hosts. ¹² But there shall be the seed of peace: the vine shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew: and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things. ¹³ And it shall come to pass, that as you were a curse among the Gentiles, O house of Juda, and house of Israel: so will I save you, and you shall be a blessing: fear not, let your hands be strengthened. ¹⁴ For thus saith the Lord of hosts: As I purposed io afflict you, when your fathers had provoked me to wrath, saith the Lord, ¹⁵ And I had no mercy: so turning again I have thought in these days to do good to the house of Juda, and Jerusalem: fear not. ¹⁶ These then are the things, which you shall do: Speak ye truth every one to his neighbour; judge ye truth and judgment of peace in your gates. ¹⁷ And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his friend: and love not a false oath: for all these are the things that I hate, saith the Lord. ¹⁸ And the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying: ¹⁹ Thus saith the Lord of hosts: The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth shall be to the house of Juda, joy, and gladness, and great solemnities: only love ye truth and peace. ²⁰ Thus saith the Lord of hosts, until people come and dwell in many cities, ²¹ And the inhabitants go one to another, saying: Let us go, and entreat the face of the Lord, and let us seek the Lord of hosts: I also will go. ²² And many peoples, and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem, and to entreat the face of the Lord. ²³ Thus saith the Lord of hosts: In those days, wherein ten men of all languages of the Gentiles shall take hold, and shall hold fast the skirt of one that is a Jew, saying: We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.

² And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and magnify thy name, and thou shalt be blessed. ³ I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee, and IN THEE shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.

¹⁴ Is there any thing hard to God? According to appointment I will return to thee at this same time, life accompanying, and Sara shall have a son.

⁴ And I will multiply thy seed like the stars of heaven: and I will give to thy posterity all these countries: and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.

¹² And Isaac sowed in that land, and he found that same year a hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him.

²⁸ God give thee of the dew of heaven, and of the fatness of the earth, abundance of corn and wine.

⁷ Yea your father hath also overreached me, and hath changed my wages ten times: and yet God hath not suffered him to hurt me.

⁴¹ And in this manner have I served thee in thy house twenty years, fourteen for thy daughters, and six for thy flocks: thou hast changed also my wages ten times.

¹¹ You shall not steal. You shall not lie: neither shall any man deceive his neighbour.

⁴ And the ground shall bring forth its increase: and the trees shall be filled with fruit. ⁵ The threshing of your harvest shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and you shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land without fear.

¹² I will walk among you, and will be your God: and you shall be my people.

²⁹ And Moses said to Hobab the son of Raguel the Madianite, his kinsman: We are going towards the place which the Lord will give us: come with us, that we may do thee good: for the Lord hath promised good things to Israel. ³⁰ But he answered him: I will not go with thee, but I will return to my country, wherein I was born. ³¹ And he said: Do not leave us: for thou knowest in what places we should encamp in the wilderness, and thou shalt be our guide. ³² And if thou comest with us, we will give thee what is the best of the riches which the Lord shall deliver to us.

²² Shall then a multitude of sheep and oxen be killed, that it may suffice for their food? or shall the fishes of the sea be gathered together to fill them? ²³ And the Lord answered him: Is the hand of the Lord unable? Thou shalt presently see whether my word shall come to pass or no.

¹⁴ And the inhabitants of this land, (who have heard that thou, O Lord, art among this people, and art seen face to face, and thy cloud protecteth them, and thou goest before them in a pillar of a cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night,) ¹⁵ May hear that thou hast killed so great a multitude as it were one man and may say: ¹⁶ He could not bring the people into the land for which he had sworn, therefore did he kill them in the wilderness.

²² But yet all the men that have seen my majesty, and the signs that I have done in Egypt, and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now ten times, and have not obeyed my voice,

⁶ And you shall observe, and fulfil them in practice. For this is your wisdom, and understanding in the sight of nations, that hearing all these precepts, they may say: Behold a wise and understanding people, a great nation. ⁷ Neither is there any other nation so great, that hath gods so nigh them, as our God is present to all our petitions.

¹² And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but that thou fear the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways, and love him, and serve the Lord thy God, with all thy heart, and with all thy soul: ¹³ And keep the commandments of the Lord, and his ceremonies, which I command thee this day, that it may be well with thee?

⁷ Your eyes have seen all the great works of the Lord, that he hath done, ⁸ That you may keep all his commandments, which I command you this day, and may go in, and possess the land, to which you are entering,

⁴ Blessed shall be the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the droves of thy herds, and the folds of thy sheep. ⁵ Blessed shall be thy barns and blessed thy stores. ⁶ Blessed shalt thou be coming in and going out. ⁷ The Lord shall cause thy enemies, that rise up against thee, to fall down before thy face: one way shall they come out against thee, and seven ways shall they flee before thee. ⁸ The Lord will send forth a blessing upon thy storehouses, and upon all the works of thy hands: and will bless thee in the land that thou shalt receive. ⁹ The Lord will raise thee up to be a holy people to himself, as he swore to thee: if thou keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways. ¹⁰ And all the people of the earth shall see that the name of the Lord is invocated upon thee, and they shall fear thee. ¹¹ The Lord will make thee abound with all goods, with the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy cattle, with the fruit of thy land, which the Lord swore to thy fathers that he would give thee. ¹² The Lord will open his excellent treasure, the heaven, that it may give rain in due season: and he will bless all the works of thy hands. And thou shalt lend to many nations, and shalt not borrow of any one.

³⁷ And thou shalt be lost, as a proverb and a byword to all people, among whom the Lord shall bring thee in.

²³ Burning it with brimstone, and the heat of salt, so that it cannot be sown any more, nor any green thing grow therein, after the example of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrha, Adama and Seboim, which the Lord destroyed in his wrath and indignation: ²⁴ And all the nations shall say: Why hath the Lord done thus to this land? what meaneth this exceeding great heat of his wrath? ²⁵ And they shall answer: Because they forsook the covenant of the Lord, which he made with their fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt: ²⁶ And they have served strange gods, and adored them, whom they knew not, and for whom they had not been assigned: ²⁷ Therefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this volume: ²⁸ And he hath cast them out of their land, in anger and in wrath, and in very great indignation, and hath thrown them into a strange land, as it is seen this day.

² Let my doctrine gather as the rain, let my speech distil as the dew, as a shower upon the herb, and as drops upon the grass.

¹³ To Joseph also he said: Of the blessing of the Lord be his land, of the fruits of heaven, and of the dew, and of the deep that lieth beneath.

²⁸ Israel shall dwell in safety, and alone. The eye of Jacob in a land of corn and wine, and the heavens shall be misty with dew.

⁶ Take courage, and be strong: for thou shalt divide by lot to this people the land for which I swore to their fathers, that I would deliver it to them.

⁸ Let not the book of this law depart from thy mouth: but thou shalt meditate on it day and night, that thou mayst observe and do all things that are written in it: then shalt thou direct thy way, and understand it.

⁹ I know that the Lord hath given this land to you: for the dread of you is fallen upon us, and all the inhabitants of the land have lost all strength. ¹⁰ We have heard that the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea, at your going in, when you came out of Egypt: and what things you did to the two kings of the Amorrhites, that were beyond the Jordan, Sehon and Og whom you slew. ¹¹ And at the hearing these things, we were affrighted, and our heart fainted away, neither did there remain any spirit in us, at your coming in: for the Lord your God he is God in heaven above, and in the earth beneath. ¹² Now, therefore, swear ye to me by the Lord, that as I have shewed mercy to you, so you also will shew mercy to my father's house: and give me a true token. ¹³ That you will save my father and mother, my brethren and sisters, and all things that are theirs, and deliver our souls from death.

⁶ In the days of Samgar, the son of Anath, in the days of Jahel, the paths rested: and they that went by them, walked through bye-ways. ⁷ The valiant men ceased, and rested in Israel: until Debbora arose, a mother arose in Israel.

¹¹ Where the chariots were dashed together, and the army of the enemies was choked, there let the justices of the Lord be rehearsed, and his clemency towards the brave men of Israel: then the people of the Lord went down to the gates, and obtained the sovereignty.

¹⁶ She answered: Be not against me, to desire that I should leave thee and depart: for whithersoever thou shalt go, I will go: and where thou shalt dwell, I also will dwell. Thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God. ¹⁷ The land that shall receive thee dying, in the same will I die: and there will I be buried. The Lord do so and so to me, and add more also, if aught but death part me and thee.

¹¹ Then all the people that were in the gate, and the ancients, answered: We are witnesses: The Lord make this woman who cometh into thy house, like Rachel, and Lia, who built up the house of Israel: that she may be an example of virtue in Ephrata, and may have a famous name in Bethlehem: ¹² And that the house may be, as the house of Phares, whom Thamar bore unto Juda, of the seed which the Lord shall give thee of this young woman.

³¹ Behold the days come: and I will cut off thy arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thy house.

²⁷ And Samuel turned about to go away: but he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent. ²⁸ And Samuel said to him: The Lord hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to thy neighbour who is better than thee.

¹⁹ And the king said to Ethai the Gethite: Why comest thou with us: return and dwell with the king, for thou art a stranger, and art come out of thy own place. ²⁰ Yesterday thou camest, and to day shalt thou be forced to go forth with us? but I shall go whither I am going: return thou, and take back thy brethren with thee, and the Lord will shew thee mercy, and truth, because thou hast shewn grace and fidelity. ²¹ And Ethai answered the king, saying: As the Lord liveth, and as my lord the king liveth: in what place soever thou shalt be, my lord, O king, either in death, or in life, there will thy servant be. ²² And David said to Ethai: Come, and pass over. And Ethai the Gethite passed, and all the men that were with him, and the rest of the people.

⁴¹ Moreover also the stranger, who is not of thy people Israel, when he shall come out of a far conntry for thy name's sake, (for they shall hear every where of thy great name, and thy mighty hand, ⁴² And thy stretched out arm) so when he shall come, and shall pray in this place, ⁴³ Then hear thou in heaven, in the firmament of thy dwelling place, and do all those things, for which that stranger shall call upon thee: that all the people of the earth may learn to fear thy name, as do thy people Israel, and may prove that thy name is called upon on this house, which I have built.

⁶ And Elias said to him: Stay here, because the Lord hath sent me as far as the Jordan. And he said: as the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on together.

³ The ninth day of the month: and a famine prevailed in the city, and there was no bread for the people of the land. ⁴ And a breach was made into the city: and all the men of war fled in the night between the two walls by the king's garden (now the Chaldees besieged the city round about), and Sedecias fled by the way that leadeth to the plains of the wilderness.

²⁵ But it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ismael, the son of Nathanias, the son of Elisama, of the seed royal came, and ten men with him, and smote Godolias; so that he died: and also the Jews and the Chaldees that were with him in Maspha.

¹⁸ But the spirit came upon Amasai the chief among thirty, and he said: We are thine, O David, and for thee, O son of Isai: peace, peace be to thee, and peace to thy helpers. For thy God helpeth thee. So David received them, and made them captains of the band.

¹³ For then thou shalt be able to prosper, if thou keep the commandments, and judgments, which the Lord commanded Moses to teach Israel: take courage and act manfully, fear not, nor be dismayed.

²⁰ And David said to Solomon his son: Act like a man, and take courage, and do: fear not, and be not dismayed: for the Lord my God will be with thee, and will not leave thee, nor forsake thee, till thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.

³² If the stranger also, who is not of thy people Israel, come from a far country, for the sake of thy great name, and thy strong hand, and thy stretched out arm, and adore in this place: ³³ Hear thou from heaven thy firm dwelling place, and do all that which that stranger shall call upon thee for: that all the people of the earth may know thy name, and may fear thee, as thy people Israel, and may know, that thy name is invoked upon this house, which I have built.

²⁰ I will pluck you up by the root out of my land which I have given you: and this house which I have sanctified to my name, I will cast away from before my face, and will make it a byword, and an example among all nations. ²¹ And this house shall be for a proverb to all that pass by, and they shall be astonished and say: Why hath the Lord done thus to this land, and to this house? ²² And they shall answer: Because they forsook the Lord the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on strange gods, and adored them, and worshipped them: therefore all these evils are come upon them.

⁵ At that time there shall be no peace to him that goeth out and cometh in, but terrors on every side among all the inhabitants of the earth. ⁶ For nation shall fight against nation, and city against city, for the Lord will trouble them with all distress. ⁷ Do you therefore take courage, and let not your hands be weakened: for there shall be a reward for your work.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused the prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, and there was no remedy.

¹ Now Aggeus the prophet, and Zacharias the son of Addo, prophesied to the Jews that were in Judea and Jerusalem, in the name of the God of Israel. ² Then rose up Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, and Josue the son of Josedec, and began to build the temple of God in Jerusalem, and with them were the prophets of God helping them.

¹⁷ And in all peoples, cities, and provinces, whithersoever the king's commandments came, there was wonderful rejoicing, feasts and banquets, and keeping holy day: Insomuch that many of other nations and religion, joined themselves to their worship and ceremonies. For a great dread of the name of the Jews had fallen upon all.

²² Because on those days the Jews revenged themselves of their enemies, and their mourning and sorrow were turned into mirth and joy, and that these should be days of feasting and gladness, in which they should send one to another portions of meats, and should give gifts to the poor.

²⁶ Thou shalt enter into the grave in abundance, as a heap of wheat is brought in in its season.

³ Behold, these ten times you confound me, and are not ashamed to oppress me.

^{17 (42:16)} And he died an old man, and full of days.

¹ Unto the end, in hymns, a psalm of a canticle for David. ^(67:2) May God have mercy on us, and bless us: may he cause the light of his countenance to shine upon us, and may he have mercy on us. ^{2 (67:3)} That we may know thy way upon earth: thy salvation in all nations. ^{3 (67:4)} Let people confess to thee, O God: let all people give praise to thee. ^{4 (67:5)} Let the nations be glad and rejoice: for thou judgest the people with justice, and directest the nations upon earth.

³ Let the mountains receive peace for the people: and the hills justice.

¹⁷ Let his name be blessed for evermore: his name continueth before the sun. And in him shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed: all nations shall magnify him.

⁵⁸ They provoked him to anger on their hills: and moved him to jealousy with their graven things. ⁵⁹ God heard, and despised them, and he reduced Israel exceedingly as it were to nothing.

⁴ We are become a reproach to our neighbours: a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.

^{9 (89:10)} Thou rulest the power of the sea: and appeasest the motion of the waves thereof.

⁹ He will not always be angry: nor will he threaten for ever.

²² Bless the Lord, all his works: in every place of his dominion, O my soul, bless thou the Lord.

² Let them say so that have been redeemed by the Lord, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy: and gathered out of the countries. ³ From the rising and from the setting of the sun, from the north and from the sea.

³ From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same, the name of the Lord is worthy of praise.

¹ O Praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people. ² For his mercy is confirmed upon us: and the truth of the Lord remaineth for ever.

²³ This is the Lord's doing, and it is wonderful in our eyes.

¹ A gradual canticle. When the Lord brought back the captivity of Sion, we became like men comforted. ² Then was our mouth filled with gladness; and our tongue with joy. Then shall they say among the Gentiles: The Lord hath done great things for them. ³ The Lord hath done great things for us: we are become joyful.

³ Thy wife as a fruitful vine, on the sides of thy house. Thy children as olive plants, round about thy table. ⁴ Behold, thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord.

⁴ May all the kings of the earth give glory to thee: for they have heard all the words of thy mouth. ⁵ And let them sing in the ways of the Lord: for great is the glory of the Lord.

¹² Whose sons are as new plants in their youth: Their daughters decked out, adorned round about after the similitude of a temple: ¹³ Their storehouses full, flowing out of this into that. Their sheep fruitful in young, abounding in their goings forth: ¹⁴ Their oxen fat. There is no breach of wall, nor passage, nor crying out in their streets. ¹⁵ They have called the people happy, that hath these things: but happy is that people whose God is the Lord.

⁹ Honour the Lord with thy substance, and give him of the first of all thy fruits; ¹⁰ And thy barns shall be filled with abundance, and thy presses shall run over with wine.

²⁹ Practise not evil against thy friend, when he hath confidence in thee.

¹⁴ With a wicked heart he deviseth evil, and at all times he soweth discord.

¹⁶ Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth: ¹⁷ Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, ¹⁸ A heart that deviseth wicked plots, feet that are swift to run into mischief, ¹⁹ A deceitful witness that uttereth lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren.

¹³ The fear of the Lord hateth evil; I hate arrogance, and pride, and every wicked way, and a mouth with a double tongue.

¹⁷ He that speaketh that which he knoweth, sheweth forth justice: but he that lieth, is a deceitful witness.

¹⁹ The lip of truth shall be steadfast for ever: but he that is a hasty witness, frameth a lying tongue.

¹² As the roaring of a lion, so also is the anger of a king: and his cheerfulness as the dew upon the grass.

² Give a portion to seven, and also to eight: for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.

²¹ How is the faithful city, that was full of judgment, become a harlot? justice dwelt in it, but now murderers.

²⁶ And I will restore thy judges as they were before, and thy counsellors as of old. After this thou shalt be called the city of the just, a faithful city.

² And in the last days the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be prepared on the top of mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills, and all nations shall flow unto it. ³ And many people shall go, and say: Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob, and he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall come forth from Sion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

⁶ For a man shall take hold of his brother, one of the house of his father, saying: Thou hast a garment, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand.

¹ And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying: We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, take away our reproach.

⁴ And I sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early, and sending, and saying: Do not commit this abominable thing, which I hate.

¹² And I will take the remnant of Juda that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt, and to dwell there; and they shall be all consumed in the land of Egypt: they shall fall by the sword, and by the famine: and they shall be consumed from the least even to the greatest, by the sword, and by the famine shall they die: and they shall be for an execration, and for a wonder, and for a curse, and for a reproach.

²² So that the Lord could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which you have committed: therefore your land is become a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.

⁴ And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, the tenth day of the month, that Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and they besieged it, and built forts against it round about.

⁶ And in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, a famine overpowered the city: and there was no food for the people of the land. ⁷ And the city was broken up, and the men of war fled, and went out of the city in the night by the way of the gate that is between the two walls, and leadeth to the king's garden, (the Chaldeans besieging the city round about,) and they went by the way that leadeth to the wilderness.

¹² And in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, the same is the nineteenth year of Nabuchodonosor, king of Babylon, came Nabuzardan the general of the army, who stood before the king of Babylon in Jerusalem. ¹³ And he burnt the house of the Lord, and the king's house, and all the houses of Jerusalem, and every great house he burnt with fire. ¹⁴ And all the army of the Chaldeans that were with the general broke down all the wall of Jerusalem round about. ¹⁵ But Nabuzardan the general carried away captives some of the poor people, and of the rest of the common sort who remained in the city, and of the fugitives that were fled over to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the multitude.

Thou hast called as to a festival, those that should terrify me round about, and there was none in the day of the wrath of the Lord that escaped and was left: those that I brought up, and nourished, my enemy hath consumed them.

¹⁵ Samech. Depart you that are defiled, they cried out to them: Depart, get ye hence, touch not: for they quarrelled, and being removed, they said among the Gentiles: He will no more dwell among them.

¹⁵ And thou shalt be a reproach, and a scoff, an example, and an astonishment amongst the nations that are round about thee, when I shall have executed judgments in thee in anger, and in indignation, and in wrathful rebukes.

²⁰ That they may walk in my commandments, and keep my judgments, and do them: and that they may be my people, and I may be their God.

¹⁸ And the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying: ¹⁹ Thus saith the Lord of hosts: The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth shall be to the house of Juda, joy, and gladness, and great solemnities: only love ye truth and peace. ²⁰ Thus saith the Lord of hosts, until people come and dwell in many cities, ²¹ And the inhabitants go one to another, saying: Let us go, and entreat the face of the Lord, and let us seek the Lord of hosts: I also will go.

¹³ Because I have bent Juda for me as a bow, I have filled Ephraim: and I will raise up thy sons, O Sion, above thy sons, O Greece, and I will make thee as the sword of the mighty.

⁶ And I will strengthen the house of Juda, and save the house of Joseph: and I will bring them back again, because I will have mercy on them: and they shall be as they were when I had not cast them off, for I am the Lord their God, and will hear them. ⁷ And they shall be as the valiant men of Ephraim, and their heart shall rejoice as through wine: and their children shall see, and shall rejoice, and their heart shall be joyful in the Lord. ⁸ I will whistle for them, and I will gather them together, because I have redeemed them: and I will multiply them as they were multiplied before. ⁹ And I will sow them among peoples: and from afar they shall remember me: and they shall live with their children, and shall return. ¹⁰ And I will bring them back out of the land of Egypt, and I will gather them from among the Assyrians: and will bring them to the land of Galaad, and Libanus, and place shall not be found for them.

⁹ And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined: and I will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say: Thou art my people: and they shall say: The Lord is my God.

¹⁶ And all they that shall be left of all nations that came against Jerusalem, shall go up from year to year, to adore the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. ¹⁷ And it shall come to pass, that he that shall not go up of the families of the land to Jerusalem, to adore the King, the Lord of hosts, there shall be no rain upon them.

²⁰ In that day that which is upon the bridle of the horse shall be holy to the Lord: and the caldrons in the house of the Lord shall be as the phials before the altar. ²¹ And every caldron in Jerusalem and Juda shall be sanctified to the Lord of hosts: and all that sacrifice shall come, and take of them, and shall seethe in them: and the merchant shall be no more in the house of the Lord of hosts in that day.

¹¹ For from the rising of the sun even to the going down, my name is great among the Gentiles, and in every place there is sacrifice, and there is offered to my name a clean oblation: for my name is great among the Gentiles, saith the Lord of hosts.

⁵ And I will come to you in judgment, and will be a speedy witness against sorcerers, and adulterers, and false swearers, and them that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widows, and the fatherless: and oppress the stranger, and have not feared me, saith the Lord of hosts.

⁹ And you are cursed with want, and you afflict me, even the whole nation of you. ¹⁰ Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house, and try me in this, saith the Lord: if I open not unto you the flood-gates of heaven, and pour you out a blessing even to abundance. ¹¹ And I will rebuke for your sakes the devourer, and he shall not spoil the fruit of your land: neither shall the vine in the field be barren, saith the Lord of hosts.

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

²⁸ But I say to you, that whosoever shall look on a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart.

³³ Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you.

¹¹ And I say to you that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven:

³⁴ Do not think that I came to send peace upon earth: I came not to send peace, but the sword. ³⁵ For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. ³⁶ And a man's enemies shall be they of his own household.

¹⁶ But whereunto shall I esteem this generation to be like? It is like to children sitting in the market place. ¹⁷ Who crying to their companions say: We have piped to you, and you have not danced: we have lamented, and you have not mourned.

³⁵ A good man out of a good treasure bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of an evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

¹⁹ For from the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false testimonies, blasphemies.

²¹ Then came Peter unto him and said: Lord, how often shall my brother offend against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? ²² Jesus saith to him: I say not to thee, till seven times; but till seventy times seven times.

²⁰ And behold, thou shalt be dumb and shalt not be able to speak until the day wherein these things shall come to pass: because thou hast not believed my words, which shall be fulfilled in their time.

³⁷ Because no word shall be impossible with God.

⁷⁴ That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, we may serve him without fear: ⁷⁵ In holiness and justice before him, all our days.

⁸ Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of penance: and do not begin to say, We have Abraham for our father. For I say unto you that God is able of these stones, to raise up children to Abraham. ⁹ For now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit shall be cut down and cast into the fire. ¹⁰ And the people asked him, saying: What then shall we do? ¹¹ And he answering, said to them: He that hath two coats, let him give to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do in like manner. ¹² And the publicans also came to be baptized and said to him: Master, what shall we do? ¹³ But he said to them: Do nothing more than that which is appointed you. ¹⁴ And the soldiers also asked him, saying: And what shall we do? And he said to them: Do violence to no man, neither calumniate any man; and be content with your pay.

⁴⁴ She came behind him and touched the hem of his garment: and immediately the issue of her blood stopped.

³² Fear not, little flock, for it hath pleased your Father to give you a kingdom.

²⁷ He said to them: The things that are impossible with men are possible with God.

¹⁴ And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (and we saw his glory, the glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth.

²³ Jesus answered and said to him: If any one love me, he will keep my word. And my Father will love him and we will come to him and will make our abode with him.

⁴⁷ For so the Lord hath commanded us: I have set thee to be the light of the Gentiles: that thou mayest be for salvation unto the utmost part of the earth. ⁴⁸ And the Gentiles hearing it were glad and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to life everlasting believed.

¹⁴ Simon hath related how God first visited to take to the Gentiles, a people to his name.

¹⁸ To the Lord was his own work known from the beginning of the world.

¹² So that even there were brought from his body to the sick, handkerchiefs and aprons: and the diseases departed from them: and the wicked spirits went out of them.

²⁰ In the promise also of God he staggered not by distrust: but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God: ²¹ Most fully knowing that whatsoever he has promised, he is able also to perform.

¹⁹ I speak an human thing, because of the infirmity of your flesh. For as you have yielded your members to serve uncleanness and iniquity, unto iniquity: so now yield your members to serve justice, unto sanctification. ²⁰ For when you were the servants of sin, you were free men to justice. ²¹ What fruit therefore had you then in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of them is death.

²⁵ For I would not have you ignorant, brethren, of this mystery (lest you should be wise in your own conceits) that blindness in part has happened in Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles should come in. ²⁶ And so all Israel should be saved, as it is written: There shall come out of Sion, he that shall deliver and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob. ²⁷ And this is to them my covenant: when I shall take away their sins.

⁹ But that the Gentiles are to glorify God for his mercy, as it is written: Therefore will I confess to thee, O Lord, among the Gentiles and will sing to thy name. ¹⁰ And again he saith: rejoice ye Gentiles, with his people. ¹¹ And again: praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles: and magnify him, all ye people. ¹² And again, Isaias saith: There shall be a root of Jesse; and he that shall rise up to rule the Gentiles, in him the Gentiles shall hope.

²¹ Let no man therefore glory in men.

²⁵ The secrets of his heart are made manifest. And so, falling down on his face, he will adore God, affirming that God is among you indeed.

¹³ Watch ye: stand fast in the faith: do manfully and be strengthened.

¹⁶ And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God: as God saith: I will dwell in them and walk among them. And I will be their God: and they shall be my people.

⁸ And the scripture, foreseeing that God justifieth the Gentiles by faith, told unto Abraham before: In thee shall all nations be blessed.

¹⁴ That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus: that we may receive the promise of the Spirit by faith.

²⁸ There is neither Jew nor Greek: there is neither bond nor free: there is neither male nor female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. ²⁹ And if you be Christ's, then are you the seed of Abraham, heirs according to the promise.

²¹ In whom all the building, being framed together, groweth up into an holy temple in the Lord. ²² In whom you also are built together into an habitation of God in the Spirit.

¹⁷ This then I say and testify in the Lord: That henceforward you walk not as also the Gentiles walk in the vanity of their mind:

²⁵ Wherefore, putting away lying, speak ye the truth, every man with his neighbour. For we are members one of another.

¹⁰ Finally, brethren, be strengthened in the Lord and in the might of his power.

⁹ For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead corporeally.

⁶ And that no man overreach nor circumvent his brother in business: because the Lord is the avenger of all these things, as we have told you before and have testified.

¹ Thou therefore, my son, be strong in Christ Jesus:

¹¹ For the grace of God our Saviour hath appeared to all men: ¹² Instructing us, that, denying ungodliness and worldly desires, we should live soberly and justly and godly in this world,

²² But you are come to mount Sion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to the company of many thousands of angels,

¹⁸ And the fruit of justice is sown in peace, to them that make peace.

¹³ Wherefore, having the loins of your mind girt up, being sober, trust perfectly in the grace which is offered you in the revelation of Jesus Christ. ¹⁴ As children of obedience, not fashioned according to the former desires of your ignorance, ¹⁵ But according to him that hath called you, who is holy, be you also in all manner of conversation holy: ¹⁶ Because it is written: You shall be holy, for I am holy.

⁹ After this, I saw a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and in sight of the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands. ¹⁰ And they cried with a loud voice, saying: Salvation to our God, who sitteth upon the throne and to the Lamb.

¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded the trumpet: and there were great voices in heaven, saying: The kingdom of this world is become our Lord's and his Christ's, and he shall reign for ever and ever. Amen.

⁶ And I saw another angel flying through the midst of heaven, having the eternal gospel, to preach unto them that sit upon the earth and over every nation and tribe and tongue and people: ⁷ Saying with a loud voice: Fear the Lord and give him honour, because the hour of his judgment is come. And adore ye him that made heaven and earth, the sea and the fountains of waters.

⁴ Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and magnify thy name? For thou only art holy. For all nations shall come and shall adore in thy sight, because thy judgments are manifest.

³ And I heard a great voice from the throne, saying: Behold the tabernacle of God with men: and he will dwell with them. And they shall be his people: and God himself with them shall be their God.

⁷ He that shall overcome shall possess these things. And I will be his God: and he shall be my son. ⁸ But the fearful and unbelieving and the abominable and murderers and whoremongers and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, they shall have their portion in the pool burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

¹⁰ And he took me up in spirit to a great and high mountain: and he shewed me the holy city Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,

²⁴ And the nations shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth shall bring their glory and honour into it.

²⁷ There shall not enter into it any thing defiled or that worketh abomination or maketh a lie: but they that are written in the book of life of the Lamb.

¹⁵ Without are dogs and sorcerers and unchaste and murderers and servers of idols and every one that loveth and maketh a lie.
