And I said: No, my lord. ⁶ And he answered, and spoke to me, saying: This is the word of the Lord to Zorobabel, saying: Not with an army, nor by might, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. ⁷ Who art thou, O great mountain, before Zorobabel? thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring out the chief stone, and shall give equal grace to the grace thereof. ⁸ And the word of the Lord came to me, saying: ⁹ The hands of Zorobabel have laid the foundations of this house, and his hands shall finish it: and you shall know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me to you. ¹⁰ For who hath despised little days? and they shall rejoice, and shall see the tin plummet in the hand of Zorobabel. These are the seven eyes of the Lord, that run to and fro through the whole earth. ¹¹ And I answered, and said to him: What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick, and upon the left side thereof ? ¹² And I answered again, and said to him: What are the two olive branches, that are by the two golden beaks, in which are the funnels of gold? ¹³ And he spoke to me, saying: Knowest thou not what these are? And I said: No, my lord. ¹⁴ And he said: These are two sons of oil who stand before the Lord of the whole earth.

¹⁶ Joseph answered: Without me, God shall give Pharao a prosperous answer.

³¹ Thou shalt make also a candlestick of beaten work, of the finest gold, the shaft thereof, and the branches, the cups, and the bowls, and the lilies going forth from it. ³² Six branches shall come out of the sides, three out of one side, and three out of the other. ³³ Three cups as it were nuts to every branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily: and three cups likewise of the fashion of nuts in the other branch, and a bowl withal, and a lily. Such shall be the work of the six branches, that are to come out from the shaft: ³⁴ And in the candlestick itself shall be four cups in the manner of a nut, and at every one bowls and lilies. ³⁵ Bowls under two branches in three places, which together make six, coming forth out of one shaft. ³⁶ And both the bowls and the branches shall be of the same beaten work of the purest gold. ³⁷ Thou shalt make also seven lamps, and shalt set them upon the candlestick, to give light over against. ³⁸ The snuffers also, and where the snuffings shall be put out, shall be made of the purest gold.

⁷ And thou shalt pour the oil of unction upon his head: and by this rite shall he be consecrated.

¹⁷ He made also the candlestick of beaten work of the finest gold. from the shaft whereof its branches, its cups, and bowls, and lilies came out: ¹⁸ Six on the two sides: three branches on one side, and three on the other. ¹⁹ Three cups in manner of a nut on each branch, and bowls withal and lilies: and three cups of the fashion of a nut in another branch, and bowls withal and lilies. The work of the six branches, that went out from the shaft of the candlestick was equal. ²⁰ And in the shaft itself were four cups after the manner of a nut, and bowls withal at every one, and lilies: ²¹ And bowls under two branches in three places, which together made six branches going out from one shaft. ²² So both the bowls, and the branches were of the same, all beaten work of the purest gold. ²³ He made also the seven lamps with their snuffers, and the vessels where the snuffings were to be put out, of the purest gold. ²⁴ The candlestick with all the vessels thereof weighed a talent of gold.

¹ And Samuel took a little vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said: Behold, the Lord hath anointed thee to be prince over his inheritance, and thou shalt deliver his people out of the hands of their enemies, that are round about them. ⁷ And he made ten golden candlesticks, according to the form which they were commanded to be made by: and he set them in the temple, five on the right hand, and five on the left.

¹¹ And they offer holocausts to the Lord, every day, morning and evening, and incense made according to the ordinance of the law, and the loaves are set forth on a most clean table, and there is with us the golden candlestick, and the lamps thereof, to be lighted always in the evening: for we keep the precepts of the Lord our God, whom you have forsaken.

⁷ Behave like men, and take courage: be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of the Assyrians, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there are many more with us than with him. ⁸ For with him is an arm of flesh: with us the Lord our God, who is our helper, and fighteth for us. And all the people shouted with a great shout, praising the Lord, because the foundations of the temple of the Lord were laid. ¹² But many of the priests and the Levites, and the chief of the fathers and the ancients that had seen the former temple; when they had the foundation of this temple before their eyes, wept with a loud voice: and many shouting for joy, lifted up their voice. ¹³ So that one could not distinguish the voice of the shout of joy, from the noise of the weeping of the people: for one with another the people shouted with a loud shout, and the voice was heard afar off.

⁷ In so much, that if thy former things were small thy latter things would be multiplied exceedingly.

⁶ Upon what are its bases grounded? or who laid the corner stone thereof, ⁷ When the morning stars praised me together, and all the sons of God made a joyful melody?

¹⁶ Therefore thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will lay a stone in the foundations of Sion, a tried stone, a corner stone, a precious stone, founded in the foundation. He that believeth, let him not hasten.

¹⁵ Until the spirit be poured upon us from on high: and the desert shall be as a charmel, and charmel shall be counted for a forest.

³ The voice of one crying in the desert: Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the wilderness the paths of our God. ⁴ Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall become straight, and the rough ways plain.

¹⁵ I have made thee as a new thrashing wain, with teeth like a saw: thou shalt thrash the mountains, and break them in pieces: and shalt make the hills as chaff.

¹⁶ Come ye near unto me, and hear this: I have not spoken in secret from the beginning: from the time before it was done, I was there, and now the Lord God hath sent me, and his spirit.

⁵ For he that made thee shall rule over thee, the Lord of hosts is his name: and thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, shall be called the God of all the earth.

¹⁰ But they provoked to wrath, and afflicted the spirit of his Holy One: and he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them. ¹¹ And he remembered the days of old of Moses, and of his people: Where is he that brought them up out of the sea, with the shepherds of his flock? where is he that put in the midst of them the spirit of his Holy One? ¹² He that brought out Moses by the right hand, by the arm of his majesty: that divided the waters before them, to make himself an everlasting name. ¹³ He that led them out through the deep, as a horse in the wilderness that stumbleth not. ¹⁴ As a beast that goeth down in the field, the spirit of the Lord was their leader: so didst thou lead thy people to make thyself a glorious name.

¹ O that thou wouldst rend the heavens, and wouldst come down: the mountains would melt away at thy presence. ² They would melt as at the burning of fire, the waters would burn with fire, that thy name might be made known to thy enemies: that the nations might tremble at thy presence. ³ When thou shalt do wonderful things, we shall not bear them: thou didst come down, and at thy presence the mountains melted away.

¹¹ That you may suck, and be filled with the breasts of her consolations: that you may milk out, and flow with delights, from the abundance of her glory.

¹⁴ You shall see and your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like an herb, and the hand of the Lord shall be known to his servants, and he shall be angry with his enemies.

¹¹ The voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say: Give ye glory to the Lord of hosts, for the Lord is good, for his mercy endureth for ever: and of them that shall bring their vows into the house of the Lord: for I will bring back the captivity of the land as at the first, saith the Lord.

¹⁹ Behold one shall come up as a lion from the swelling of the Jordan, against the strong and beautiful: for I will make him run suddenly upon her: and who shall be the chosen one whom I may appoint over her? for who is like to me? and who shall abide me? and who is that shepherd that can withstand my countenance?

²⁵ Behold I come against thee, thou destroying mountain, saith the Lord, which corruptest the whole earth: and I will stretch out my hand upon thee, and will roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.

¹⁹ The general took away the pitchers, and the censers, and the pots, and the basins, and the candlesticks, and the mortars, and the cups: as many as were of gold, in gold: and as many as were of silver, in silver:

¹¹ And he said to me: Son of man: All these bones are the house of Israel: they say: Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost, and we are cut off. ¹² Therefore prophesy, and say to them: Thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will open your graves, and will bring you out of your sepulchres, O my people: and will bring you into the land of Israel. ¹³ And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have opened your sepulchres, and shall have brought you out of your graves, O my people: ¹⁴ And shall have put my spirit in you, and you shall live, and I shall make you rest upon your own land: and you shall know that I the Lord have spoken, and done it, saith the Lord God:

³⁰ To me also this secret is revealed, not by any wisdom that I have more than all men alive: but that the interpretation might be made manifest to the king, and thou mightest know the thought of thy mind.

³⁴ Thus thou sawest, till a stone was cut out of a mountain without hands: and it struck the statue upon the feet thereof that were of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. ³⁵ Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of a summer's threshing floor, and they were carried away by the wind: and there was no place found for them: but the stone that struck the statue became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

¹⁶ I went near to one of them that stood by, and asked the truth of him concerning all these things, and he told me the interpretation of the words, and instructed me: ¹⁷ These four great beasts, are four kingdoms, which shall arise out of the earth. ¹⁸ But the saints of the most high God shall take the kingdom: and they shall possess the kingdom for ever and ever. ¹⁹ After this I would diligently learn concerning the fourth beast, which was very different from all, and exceeding terrible: his teeth and claws were of iron: he devoured and broke in pieces, and the rest he stamped upon with his feet:

¹⁸ And when he spoke to me, I fell flat on the ground: and he touched me, and set me upright.

²⁴ Seventy weeks are shortened upon thy people, and upon thy holy city, that transgression may be finished, and sin may have an end, and iniquity may be abolished; and everlasting justice may be brought; and vision and prophecy may be fulfilled; and the Saint of saints may be anointed. ²⁵ Know thou, therefore, and take notice: that from the going forth of the word, to build up Jerusalem again, unto Christ, the prince, there shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks: and the street shall be built again, and the walls, in straitness of times. ²⁶ And after sixty-two weeks Christ shall be slain: and the people that shall deny him shall not be his. And a people, with their leader, that shall come, shall destroy the city, and the sanctuary: and the end thereof shall be waste, and after the end of the war the appointed desolation.

⁸ And I, being left alone, saw this great vision: and there remained no strength in me, and the appearance of my countenance was changed in me, and I fainted away, and retained no strength. ⁹ And I heard the voice of his words: and when I heard I lay in a consternation upon my face, and my face was close to the ground. ¹⁰ And behold a hand touched me, and lifted me up upon my knees, and upon the joints of my hands.

⁸ And I heard, and understood not. And I said: O my lord, what shall be after these things?

⁷ And I will have mercy on the house of Juda, and I will save them by the Lord, their God: and I will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, nor by horses, nor by horsemen.

³ He will revive us after two days: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight. We shall know, and we shall follow on, that we may know the Lord. His going forth is prepared as the morning light, and he will come to us as the early and the latter rain to the earth.

⁷ These things the Lord shewed to me: and behold the Lord was standing upon a plastered wall, and in his hand a mason's trowel. ⁸ And the Lord said to me: What seest thou, Amos? And I said: A mason's trowel. And the Lord said: Behold, I will lay down the trowel in the midst of my people Israel. I will plaster them over no more.

⁴ And the mountains shall be melted under him: and the valleys shall be cleft, as wax before the fire, and as waters that run down a steep place.

¹ And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be prepared in the top of the mountains, and high above the hills: and people shall flow to it.

¹³ Arise, and tread, O daughter of Sion: for I will make thy horn iron, and thy hoofs I will make brass: and thou shalt beat in pieces many peoples, and shalt immolate the spoils of them to the Lord, and their strength to the Lord of the whole earth.

⁵ The mountains tremble at him, and the hills are made desolate: and the earth hath quaked at his presence, and the world, and all that dwell therein. ⁶ Who can stand before the face of his indignation? and who shall resist in the fierceness of his anger? his indignation is poured out like fire: and the rocks are melted by him.

⁶ He stood and measured the earth. He beheld, and melted the nations: and the ancient mountains were crushed to pieces. The hills of the world were bowed down by the journeys of his eternity.

^{3 (2:4)} Who is left among you, that saw this house in its first glory? and how do you see it now? is it not in comparison to that as nothing in your eyes? ^{4 (2:5)} Yet now take courage, O Zorobabel, saith the Lord, and take courage, Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest, and take courage, all ye people of the land, saith the Lord of hosts: and perform (for I am with you, saith the Lord of hosts) ^{5 (2:6)} The word that I convenanted with you when you came out of the land of Egypt: and my spirit shall be in the midst of you: fear not. ^{6 (2:7)} For thus saith the Lord of hosts: Yet one little while, and I will move the heaven and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land. ^{7 (2:8)} And I will move all nations: AND THE DESIRED OF ALL NATIONS SHALL COME: and I will fill this house with glory: saith the Lord of hosts. ^{8 (2:9)} The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts. ^{9 (2:10)} Great shall be the glory of this last house more than of the first, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place I will give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.

^{21 (2:22)} Speak to Zorobabel the governor of Juda, saying: I will move both heaven and earth. ^{22 (2:23)} And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and will destroy the strength of the kingdom of the Gentiles: and I will overthrow the chariot, and him that rideth therin: and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother. ^{23 (2:24)} In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, I will take thee, O Zorobabel the son of Salathiel, my servant, saith the Lord, and will make thee as a signet, for I have chosen thee, saith the Lord of hosts.

⁹ And I said: What are these, my lord? and the angel that spoke in me, said to me: I will shew thee what these are: ¹⁰ And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered, and said: These are they, whom the Lord hath sent to walk through the earth. ¹¹ And they answered the angel of the Lord, that stood among the myrtle trees, and said: We have walked through the earth, and behold all the earth is inhabited, and is at rest.

¹³ And the Lord answered the angel, that spoke in me, good words, comfortable words.

¹⁹ And I said to the angel that spoke in me: What are these? And he said to me: These are the horns that have scattered Juda, and Israel, and Jerusalem.

³ And behold the angel that spoke in me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him.

⁸ For thus saith the Lord of hosts: After the glory he hath sent me to the nations that have robbed you: for he that toucheth you, toucheth the apple of my eye: ⁹ For behold, I lift up my hand upon them, and they shall be a prey to those that served them: and you shall know that the Lord of hosts sent me.

¹¹ And many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and they shall be my people, and I will dwell in the midst of thee: and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me to thee.

¹ And the Lord shewed me Jesus the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord: and Satan stood on his right hand to be his adversary. ² And the Lord said to Satan: The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan: and the Lord that chose Jerusalem rebuke thee: Is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? ³ And Jesus was clothed with filthy garments: and he stood before the face of the angel. ⁴ Who answered, and said to them that stood before him, saying: Take away the filthy garments from him. And he said to him: Behold I have taken away thy iniquity, and have clothed thee with change of garments. ⁵ And he said: Put a clean mitre upon his head: and they put a clean mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments, and the angel of the Lord stood. ⁶ And the angel of the Lord protested to Jesus, saying: ⁷ Thus saith the Lord of hosts: If thou wilt walk in my ways, and keep my charge, thou also shalt judge my house, and shalt keep my courts, and I will give thee some of them that are now present here to walk with thee.

⁹ For behold the stone that I have laid before Jesus: upon one stone there are seven eyes: behold I will grave the graving thereof, saith the Lord of hosts: and I will take away the iniquity of that land in one day.

³ And two olive trees over it: one upon the right side of the lamp, and the other upon the left side thereof.

⁵ And the angel that spoke in me answered, and said to me: Knowest thou not what these things are? And I said: No, my lord.

⁹ The hands of Zorobabel have laid the foundations of this house, and his hands shall finish it: and you shall know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me to you.

¹¹ And I answered, and said to him: What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick, and upon the left side thereof ? ¹² And I answered again, and said to him: What are the two olive branches, that are by the two golden beaks, in which are the funnels of gold?

⁶ And I said: What is it? And he said: This is a vessel going forth. And he said: This is their eye in all the earth.

⁴ And I answered, and said to the angel that spoke in me: What are these, my lord? ⁵ And the angel answered, and said to me: These are the four winds of the heaven, which go forth to stand before the Lord of all the earth.

¹² And thou shalt speak to him, saying: Thus saith the Lord of hosts, saying: BEHOLD A MAN, THE ORIENT IS HIS NAME: and under him shall he spring up, a shall build a temple to the Lord. ¹³ Yea, he shall build a temple to the Lord: and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit, and rule upon his throne: and he shall be a priest upon his throne, and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

¹³ Because I have bent Juda for me as a bow, I have filled Ephraim: and I will raise up thy sons, O Sion, above thy sons, O Greece, and I will make thee as the sword of the mighty. ¹⁴ And the Lord God shall be seen over them, and his dart shall go forth as lightning: and the Lord God will sound the trumpet, and go in the whirlwind of the south. ¹⁵ The Lord of hosts will protect them: and they shall devonr, and subdue with the stones of the sling: and drinking they shall be inebriated as it were with wine, and they shall be filled as bowls, and as the horns of the altar.

⁴ And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is over against Jerusalem towards the east: and the mount of Olives shall be divided in the midst thereof to the east, and to the west with a very great opening, and half of the mountain shall be separated to the north, and half thereof to the south. ⁵ And you shall flee to the valley of those mountains, for the valley of the mountains shall be joined even to the next, and you shall flee as you fled from the face of the earthquake in the days of Ozias king of Juda: and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with him.

¹⁴ You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid. ¹⁵ Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house. ¹⁶ So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

³¹ Another parable he proposed unto them, saying: The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field. ³² Which is the least indeed of all seeds; but when it is grown up, it is greater than all herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come, and dwell in the branches thereof. ³³ Another parable he spoke to them: The kingdom of heaven is like to leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until the whole was leavened.

³⁶ Then having sent away the multitudes, he came into the house, and his disciples came to him, saying: Expound to us the parable of the cockle of the field.

¹⁸ And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

²³ He saith to them: My chalice indeed you shall drink; but to sit on my right or left hand is not mine to give to you, but to them for whom it is prepared by my Father.

²¹ And Jesus answering, said to them: Amen, I say to you, if you shall have faith and stagger not, not only this of the fig tree shall you do, but also if you shall say to this mountain, Take up and cast thyself into the sea, it shall be done.

⁴² Jesus saith to them: Have you never read in the Scriptures: The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? By the Lord this has been done; and it is wonderful in our eyes.

¹³ And he saith to them: Are you ignorant of this, parable? and how shall you know all parables?

¹⁰ And have you not read this scripture, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is made the head of the corner:

¹⁹ And the angel answering, said to him: I am Gabriel, who stand before God and am sent to speak to thee and to bring thee these good tidings.

⁵ Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be brought low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways plain.

³² But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep. And waking, they saw his glory and the two men that stood with him.

⁵ And when he hath found it, lay it upon his shoulders, rejoicing? ⁶ And coming home, call together his friends and neighbours, saying to them: Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost? ⁷ I say to you that even so there shall be joy in heaven upon one sinner that doth penance, more than upon ninety-nine just who need not penance. ⁸ Or what woman having ten groats, if she lose one groat, doth not light a candle and sweep the house and seek diligently until she find it? ⁹ And when she hath found it, call together her friends and neighbours, saying: Rejoice with me, because I have found the groat which I had lost. ¹⁰ So I say to you, there shall be joy before the angels of God upon one sinner doing penance.

³² But it was fit that we should make merry and be glad: for this thy brother was dead and is come to life again; he was lost, and is found.

¹⁷ But he looking on them, said: What is this then that is written, The stone, which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?

⁴⁵ And when he rose up from prayer and was come to the disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow. ⁴⁶ And he said to them: Why sleep you? Arise: pray: lest you enter into temptation.

¹⁷ For God sent not his Son into the world, to judge the world: but that the world may be saved by him.

³⁶ But I have a greater testimony than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to perfect, the works themselves which I do, give testimony of me, that the Father hath sent me. ³⁷ And the Father himself who hath sent me hath given testimony of me: neither have you heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

¹⁶ And if I do judge, my judgment is true: because I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. ¹⁷ And in your law it is written that the testimony of two men is true. ¹⁸ I am one that give testimony of myself: and the Father that sent me giveth testimony of me.

²¹ That they all may be one, as thou, Father, in me, and I in thee; that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

¹¹ This is the stone which was rejected by you the builders, which is become the head of the corner.

⁶ And if by grace, it is not now by works: otherwise grace is no more grace.

¹⁷ And if some of the branches be broken and thou, being a wild olive, art ingrafted in them and art made partaker of the root and of the fatness of the olive tree:

²⁴ For if thou were cut out of the wild olive tree, which is natural to thee; and, contrary to nature, wert grafted into the good olive tree: how much more shall they that are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?

²⁸ And the base things of the world and the things that are contemptible, hath God chosen: and things that are not, that he might bring to nought things that are: ²⁹ That no flesh should glory in his sight.

⁴ And my speech and my preaching was not in the persuasive words of human wisdom. but in shewing of the Spirit and power: ⁵ That your faith might not stand on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.

¹² Now, we have received not the spirit of this world, but the Spirit that is of God: that we may know the things that are given us from God. ¹³ Which things also we speak: not in the learned words of human wisdom, but in the doctrine of the Spirit, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. ¹⁴ But the sensual man perceiveth not these things that are of the Spirit of God. For it is foolishness to him: and he cannot understand, because it is spiritually examined. ¹⁵ But the spiritual man judgeth all things: and he himself is judged of no man.

⁴ For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty to God, unto the pulling down of fortifications, destroying counsels, ⁵ And every height that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God: and bringing into captivity every understanding unto the obedience of Christ:

⁶ Unto the praise of the glory of his grace, in which he hath graced us, in his beloved son. ⁷ In whom we have redemption through his blood, the remission of sins, according to the riches of his, grace,

⁴ But God (who is rich in mercy) for his exceeding charity wherewith he loved us ⁵ Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together in Christ (by whose grace you are saved) ⁶ And hath raised us up together and hath made us sit together in the heavenly places, through Christ Jesus. ⁷ That he might shew in the ages to come the abundant riches of his grace, in his bounty towards us in Christ Jesus. ⁸ For by grace you are saved through faith: and that not of yourselves, for it is the gift of God.

²⁰ Built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone:

⁸ But to the Son: Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of justice is the sceptre of thy kingdom. ⁹ Thou hast loved justice and hated iniquity: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

¹¹ Of whom we have much to say and hard to be intelligibly uttered: because you are become weak to hear. ¹² For whereas for the time you ought to be masters, you have need to be taught again what are the first elements of the words of God: and you are become such as have need of milk and not of strong meat.

¹ For this Melchisedech was king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him: ² To whom also Abraham divided the tithes of all: who first indeed by interpretation is king of justice: and then also king of Salem, that is, king of peace:

² Looking on Jesus, the author and finisher of faith, who, having joy set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and now sitteth on the right hand of the throne of God.

¹² To whom it was revealed that, not to themselves but to you, they ministered those things which are now declared to you by them that have preached the gospel to you: the Holy Ghost being sent down from heaven, on whom the angels desire to look.

⁷ To you therefore that believe, he is honour: but to them that believe not, the stone which the builders rejected, the same is made the head of the corner:

¹² And I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks:

²⁰ The mystery of the seven stars, which thou sawest in my right hand and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches. And the seven candlesticks are the seven churches.

⁵ And from the throne proceeded lightnings and voices and thunders. And there were seven lamps burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

⁶ And I saw: and behold in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures and in the midst of the ancients, a Lamb standing, as it were slain, having seven horns and seven eyes: which are the seven Spirits of God, sent forth into all the earth.

⁹ And they sung a new canticle, saying: Thou art worthy, O Lord, to take the book and to open the seals thereof: because thou wast slain and hast redeemed us to God, in thy blood, out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation: ¹⁰ And hast made us to our God a kingdom and priests, and we shall reign on the earth. ¹¹ And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the living creatures and the ancients (and the number of them was thousands of thousands), ¹² Saying with a loud voice: The Lamb that was slain is worthy to receive power and divinity and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and benediction. ¹³ And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard all saying: To him that sitteth on the throne and to the Lamb, benediction and honour and glory and power, for ever and ever.

¹³ And one of the ancients answered and said to me: These that are clothed in white robes, who are they? And whence came they? ¹⁴ And I said to him: My Lord, thou knowest. And he said to me: These are they who are come out of great tribulation and have washed their robes and have made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

² And I saw seven angels standing in the presence of God: and there were given to them seven trumpets.

⁴ These are the two olive trees and the two candlesticks that stand before the Lord of the earth.

²⁰ And every island fled away: and the mountains were not found.

¹ After these things, I heard as it were the voice of much people in heaven, saying: Alleluia. Salvation and glory and power is to our God. ² For true and just are his judgments, who hath judged the great harlot which corrupted the earth with her fornication and hath revenged the blood of his servants, at her hands. ³ And again they said: Alleluia. And her smoke ascendeth for ever and ever. ⁴ And the four and twenty ancients and the four living creatures fell down and adored God that sitteth upon the throne, saying: Amen. Alleluia. ⁵ And a voice came out from the throne, saying: Give praise to our God, all ye his servants: and you that fear him, little and great. ⁶ And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of great thunders, saying: Alleluia: for the Lord our God, the Almighty, hath reigned.
