¹⁸ That day God made a covenant with Abram, saying: To thy seed will I give this land, from the river to Egypt even to the great river Euphrates.

²⁸ Sending out hornets before, that shall drive away the Hevite, and the Chanaanite, and the Hethite, before thou come in. ²⁹ I will not cast them out from thy face in one year; lest the land be brought into a wilderness, and the beasts multiply against thee. ³⁰ By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, till thou be increased, and dost possess the land. ³¹ And I will set thy bounds from the Red Sea to the sea of the Palestines, and from the desert to the river: I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hands, and will drive them out from before you.

²⁰ Let them cover both sides of the propitiatory, spreading their wings, and covering the oracle, and let them look one towards the other, their faces being turned towards the propitiatory wherewith the ark is to to be covered. ²¹ In which thou shalt put the testimony that I will give thee. ²² Thence will I give orders, and will speak to thee over the propitiatory, and from the midst of the two cherubims, which shall be upon the ark of the testimony, all things which I will command the children of Israel by thee.

¹⁸ On the west side shall be the camp of the sons of Ephraim, whose prince was Elisama the son of Ammiud. ¹⁹ The whole army of his fighting men, that were numbered, were forty thousand five hundred. ²⁰ And with them the tribe of the sons of Manasses, whose prince was Gamaliel the son of Phadassur. ²¹ And the whole army of his fighting men, that were numbered, were thirty-two thousand two hundred. ²² In the tribe of the sons of Benjamin the prince was Abidan the son of Gedeon. ²³ And the whole army of fighting men, that were reckoned up, were thirty-five thousand four hundred. ²⁴ All that were numbered in the camp of Ephraim, were a hundred and eight-thousand one hundred by their troops: they shall march in the third place.

²⁵ The Lord shew his face to thee, and have mercy on thee. ²⁶ The Lord turn his countenance to thee, and give thee peace.

²² The sons of Ephraim also moved their camp by their troops, in whose army the prince was Elisama the son of Ammiud. ²³ And in the tribe of the sons of Manasses, the prince was Gamaliel the son of Phadassur. ²⁴ And in the tribe of Benjamin, the prince was Abidan the son of Gedeon.

²⁰ And the Lord should not forgive him: but his wrath and jealousy against that man should be exceedingly enkindled at that time, and all the curses that are written in this volume should light upon him: and the Lord should blot out his name from under heaven,

² And he said: The Lord came from Sinai, and from Seir he rose up to us: he hath appeared from mount Pharan, and with him thousands of saints. In his right hand a fiery law.

⁶ Of all that dwell in the mountains from Libanus, to the waters of Maserephoth, and all the Sidonians. I am he that will cut them off from before the face of the children of Israel. So let their land come in as a part of the inheritance of Israel, as I have commanded thee.

¹³ Know ye for a certainty that the Lord your God will not destroy them before your face, but they shall be a pit and a snare in your way, and a stumbling-block at your side, and stakes in your eyes, till he take you away and destroy you from off this excellent land, which he hath given you. ¹⁴ Behold this day I am going into the way of all the earth, and you shall know with all your mind that of all the words which the Lord promised to perform for you, not one hath failed, ¹⁵ Therefore as he hath fulfilled in deed, what he promised, and all things prosperous have come: so will he bring upon you all the evils he hath threatened, till he take you away and destroy you from off this excellent land, which he hath given you,

¹² And I sent before you and I drove them out from their places, the two kings of the Amorrhites, not with thy sword nor with thy bow,

²⁵ And rejoicing in their feasts, when they had now taken their good cheer, they commanded that Samson should be called, and should play before them. And being brought out of prison, he played before them; and they made him stand between two pillars.

⁴ So the people sent to Silo, and they brought from thence the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, sitting upon the cherubims: and the two sons of Heli, Ophni and Phinees, were with the ark of the covenant of God.

² And David arose and went, with all the people that were with him of the men of Juda to fetch the ark of God, upon which the name of the Lord of Hosts is invoked, who sitteth over it upon the cherubims.

²⁰ Juda and Israel were innumerable, as the sand of the sea in multitude; eating and drinking, and rejoicing. ²¹ And Solomon had under him all the kingdoms, from the river to the land of the Philistines, even to the border of Egypt: and they brought him presents, and served him all the days of his life.

²⁴ For he had all the country which was beyond the river, from Thaphsa to Gazan, and all the kings of those countries: and he had peace on every side round about. ²⁵ And Juda, and Israel, dwelt without any fear, every one under his vine, and under his fig tree, from Dan to Bersabee, all the days of Solomon.

³⁷ Dear me, O Lord, hear me: that this people may learn that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart again.

¹ In the third year of Osee, the son of Ela, king of Israel, reigned Ezechias, the son of Achaz, king of Juda. ² He was five and twenty years old when he began to reign: and he reigned nine and twenty years in Jerusalem: the name of his mother was Abi, the daughter of Zacharias. ³ And he did that which was good before the Lord, according to all that David, his father, had done ⁴ He destroyed the high places, and broke the statues in pieces, and cut down the groves, and broke the brazen serpent, which Moses had made: for till that time the children of Israel burnt incense to it: and he called its name Nohestan. ⁵ He trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel: so that after him there was none like him among all the kings of Juda, nor any of them that were before him: ⁶ And he stuck to the Lord, and departed not from his steps, but kept his commandments, which the Lord commanded Moses. ⁷ Wherefore the Lord also was with him, and in all things, to which he went forth, he behaved himself wisely. And he rebelled against the king of the Assyrians, and served him not. ⁸ He smote the Philistines as far as Gaza, and all their borders, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city. ⁹ In the fourth year of king Ezechias, which was the seventh vear of Osee, the son of Ela, king of Israel, Salmanasar, king of the Assyrians, came up to Samaria, and besieged it, ¹⁰ And took it. For after three years, in the sixth year of Ezechias, that is, in the ninth year of Osee, king of Israel, Samaria was taken: ¹¹ And the king of the Assyrians carried away Israel into Assyria, and placed them in Hala, and in Habor, by the rivers of Gozan, in the cities of the Medes. ¹² Because they hearkened not to the voice of the Lord, their God, but transgressed his covenant: all that Moses, the servant of the Lord, commanded, they would not hear, nor do. ¹³ In the fourteenth year of king Ezechias, Sennacherib, king of the Assyrians, came up against the fenced cities of Juda, and took them. ¹⁴ Then Ezechias, king of Juda, sent messengers to the king of the Assyrians, to Lachis, saying: I have offended, depart from me: and all that thou shalt put upon me, I will bear. And the king of the Assyrians put a tax upon Ezechias, king of Juda, of three hundred talents of silver, and thirty talents of gold. ¹⁵ And Ezechias gave all the silver that was found in the house of the Lord, and in the king's treasures. ¹⁶ At that time Ezechias broke the doors of the temple of the Lord, and the plates of gold which he had fastened on them, and gave them to the king of the Assyrians. ¹⁷ And the king of the Assyrians sent Tharthan, and Rabsaris, and Rabsaces, from Lachis, to king Ezechias, with a strong army, to Jerusalem: and they went up and came to Jerusalem, and they stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the way of the fuller's field. ¹⁸ And they called for the king: and there went out to them Eliacim, the son of Helcias, who was over the house, and Sobna, the scribe, and Joahe, the son of Asaph, the recorder. ¹⁹ And Rabsaces said to them: Speak to Ezechias: Thus saith the great king, the king of the Assyrians: What is this confidence, wherein thou trustest?

¹⁵ And he prayed in his sight, saying: O Lord God of Israel, who sittest upon the cherubims, thou alone art the God of all the kings of the earth: thou madest heaven and earth:

¹ In his days Nabuchodonosor, king of Babylon came up, and Joakim became his servant three years: then again he rebelled against him. ² And the Lord sent against him the rovers of the Chaldees, and the rovers of Syria, and the rovers of Moab, and the rovers of the children of Ammon: and he sent them against Juda, to destroy it, according to the word of the Lord, which he had spoken by his servants, the prophets. ³ And this came by the word of the Lord against Juda, to remove them from before him for all the sins of Manasses which he did; ⁴ And for the innocent blood that he shed, filling Jerusalem with innocent blood: and therefore the Lord would not be appeased. ⁵ But the rest of the acts of Joakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Juda? And Joakim slept with his fathers: ⁶ And Joachin, his son, reigned in his stead. ⁷ And the king of Egypt came not again any more out of his own country: for the king of Babylon had taken all that had belonged to the king of Egypt, from the river of Egypt, unto the river Euphrates. ⁸ Joachin was eighteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem: the name of his mother was Nohesta, the daughter of Elnathan, of Jerusalem. ⁹ And he did evil before the Lord, according to all that his father had done. ¹⁰ At that time the servants of Nabuchodonosor, king of Babylon, came up against Jerusalem, and the city was surrounded with their forts. ¹¹ And Nabuchodonosor, king of Babylon, came to the city, with his servants, to assault it. ¹² And Joachin, king of Juda, went out to the king of Babylon, he, and his mother, and his servants, and his nobles, and his eunuchs: and the king of Babylon received him in the eighth year of his reign. ¹³ And he brought out from thence all the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king's house: and he cut in pieces all the vessels of gold which Solomon, king of Israel, had made in the temple of the Lord, according to the word of the Lord. ¹⁴ And he carried away all Jerusalem, and all the princes, and all the valiant men of the army, to the number of ten thousand, into captivity: and every artificer and smith: and none were left, but the poor sort of the people of the land. ¹⁵ And he carried away Joachin into Babylon, and the king's mother, and the king's wives, and his eunuchs: and the judges of the land he carried into captivity, from Jerusalem, into Babylon. ¹⁶ And all the strong men, seven thousand, and the artificers, and the smiths, a thousand, all that were valiant men, and fit for war: and the king of Babylon led them captives into Babylon. ¹⁷ And he appointed Matthanias, his uncle, in his stead: and called his name Sedecias. ¹⁸ Sedecias was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: the name of his mother was Amital, the daughter of Jeremias, of Lobna. ¹⁹ And he did evil before the Lord, according to all that Joakim had done. ²⁰ For the Lord was angry against Jerusalem and against Juda, till he cast them out from his face: and Sedecias revolted from the king of Babylon.

³ At that time David defeated also Adarezer king of Soba of the land of Hemath, when he went to extend his dominions as far as the river Euphrates.

⁵ And he gave David the number of them, whom he had surveyed: and all the number of Israel was found to be eleven hundred thousand men that drew the sword: and of Juda four hundred and seventy thousand fighting men.

²³ But David would not number them from twenty years old and under: because the lord had said that he would multiply Israel like the stars of heaven. ²⁴ Joab the son of Sarvia began to number, but he finished not: because upon this there fell wrath upon Israel: and therefore the number of them that were numbered, was not registered in the chronicles of king David.

¹ After these things, and this truth, Sennacherib king of the Assyrians came and entered into Juda, and besieged the fenced cities, desiring to take them. ² And when Ezechias saw that Sennacherib was come, and that the whole force of the war was turning against Jerusalem, ³ He took counsel with the princes, and the most valiant men, to stop up the heads of the springs, that were without the city: and as they were all of this mind, ⁴ He gathered together a very great multitude, and they stopped up all the springs, and the brook, that ran through the midst of the land, saying: Lest the kings of the Assyrians should come, and find abundance of water. ⁵ He built up also with great diligence all the wall that had been broken down, and built towers upon it, and another wall without: and he repaired Mello in the city of David, and made all sorts of arms and shields: ⁶ And he appointed captains of the soldiers of the army: and he called them all together in the street of the gate of the city, and spoke to their heart, saying: ⁷ Behave like men, and take courage: be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of the Assyrians, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there are many more with us than with him. ⁸ For with him is an arm of flesh: with us the Lord our God, who is our helper, and fighteth for us. And the people were encouraged with these words of Ezechias king of Juda. ⁹ After this, Sennacherib king of the Assyrians sent his servants to Jerusalem, (for he with all his army was besieging Lachis,) to Ezechias king of Juda, and to all the people that were in the city, saying: ¹⁰ Thus saith Sennacherib king of the Assyrians: In whom do you trust, that you sit still besieged in Jerusalem? ¹¹ Doth not Ezechias deceive you, to give you up to die by hunger and thirst, affirming that the Lord your God shall deliver you from the hand of the king of the Assyrians? ¹² Is it not this same Ezechias, that hath destroyed his high places, and his altars, and commanded Juda and Jerusalem, saying: You shall worship before one altar, and upon it you shall burn incense? ¹³ Know you not what I and my fathers have done to all the people of the lands? have the gods of any nations and lands been able to deliver their country out of my hand? ¹⁴ Who is there among all the gods of the nations, which my fathers have destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of this hand? ¹⁵ Therefore let not Ezechias deceive you, nor delude you with a vain persuasion, and do not believe him. For if no god of all the nations and kingdoms, could deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers, consequently neither shall your God be able to deliver you out of my hand. ¹⁶ And many other things did his servants speak against the Lord God, and against Ezechias his servant. ¹⁷ He wrote also letters full of blasphemy against the Lord the God of Israel, and he spoke against him: As the gods of other nations could not deliver their people out of my hand, so neither can the God of Ezechias deliver his people out of this hand. ¹⁸ Moreover he cried out with a loud voice, in the Jews' tongue, to the people that sat on the walls of Jerusalem, that he might frighten them, and take the city. ¹⁹ And he spoke against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, the works of the hands of men. ²⁰ And Ezechias the king, and Isaias the prophet the son of Amos, prayed against this blasphemy, and cried out to heaven. ²¹ And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the stout men and the warriors, and the captains of the army of the king of the Assyrians: and he returned with disgrace into his own country. And when he was come into the house of his god, his sons that came out of his bowels, slew him with the sword. ²² And the Lord saved Ezechias and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of the hand of Sennacherib king of the Assyrians, and out of the hand of all, and gave them treasures on every side. ²³ Many also brought victims, and sacrifices to the Lord to Jerusalem, and presents to Ezechias king of Juda: and he was magnified thenceforth in the sight of all nations. ²⁴ In those days Ezechias was sick even to death, and he prayed to the Lord: and he heard him, and gave him a sign. ²⁵ But he did not render again according to the benefits which he had received, for his heart was lifted up: and wrath was enkindled against him, and against Juda and Jerusalem. ²⁶ And he humbled himself afterwards, because his heart had been lifted up, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and therefore the wrath of the Lord came not upon them in the days of Ezechias. ²⁷ And Ezechias was rich, and very glorious, and he gathered himself great treasures of silver and of gold, and of precious stones, of spices, and of arms, of all kinds, and of vessels of great price. ²⁸ Storehouses also of corn, of wine, and of oil, and stalls for all beasts, and folds for cattle. ²⁹ And he built himself cities: for he had flocks of sheep, and herds without number, for the Lord had given him very much substance. ³⁰ This same Ezechias was, he that stopped the upper source of the waters of Gihon, and turned them away underneath toward the west of the city of David: in all his works he did prosperously what he would. ³¹ But yet in the embassy of the princes of Babylon, that were sent to him, to inquire of the wonder that had happened upon the earth, God left him that he might be tempted, and all things might be made known that were in his heart. ³² Now the rest of the acts of Ezechias, and of his mercies are written in the book of the kings of Juda and Israel. ³³ And Ezechias slept with his fathers, and they buried him above the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Juda, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem celebrated his funeral: and Manasses his son reigned in his stead.

And Joachin his son reigned in his stead. ⁹ Joachin was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem, and he did evil in the sight of the Lord. ¹⁰ And at the return of the year, king Nabuchodonosor sent, and brought him to Babylon, carrying away at the same time the most precious vessels of the house of the Lord: and he made Sedecias his uncle king over Juda and Jerusalem. ¹¹ Sedecias was one and twenty years old when he began to reign: and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. ¹² And he did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God, and did not reverence the face of Jeremias the prophet speaking to him from the mouth of the Lord. ¹³ He also revolted from king Nabuchodonosor, who had made him swear by God: and he hardened his neck and his heart, from returning to the Lord the God of Israel. ¹⁴ Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people wickedly transgressed according to all the abominations of the Gentiles: and they defiled the house of the Lord, which he had sanctified to himself in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And the Lord the God of their fathers sent to them, by the hand of his messengers, rising early, and daily admonishing them: because he spared his people and his dwelling place. ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused the prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against his people, and there was no remedy. ¹⁷ For he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, and he slew their young men with the sword in the house of his sanctuary, he had no compassion on young man, or maiden, old man or even him that stooped for age, but he delivered them all into his hands. ¹⁸ And all the vessels of the house of Lord, great and small, and the treasures of the temple and of the king, and of the princes he carried away to Babylon. ¹⁹ And the enemies set fire to the house of God, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, burnt all the towers, and what soever was precious they destroyed. ²⁰ Whosoever escaped the sword, was led into Babylon, and there served the king and his sons, till the reign of the king of Persia, ²¹ That the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremias might be fulfilled, and the land might keep her sabbaths: for all the days of the desolation she kept a sabbath, till the seventy years were expired. ²² But in the first year of Cyrus king of the Persians, to fulfil the word of the Lord, which he had spoken by the mouth of Jeremias, the Lord stirred up the heart of Cyrus, king of the Persians: who commanded it to be proclaimed through all his kingdom, and by writing also, saying: ²³ Thus saith Cyrus king of the Persians: All the kingdoms of the earth hath the Lord the God of heaven given to me, and he hath charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judea: who is there among you of all his people? The Lord his God be with him, and let him go up.

²² And thou gavest them kingdoms, and nations, and didst divide lots for them: and they possessed the land of Sehon, and the land of the king of Hesebon, and the land of Og king of Basan. ²³ And thou didst multiply their children as the stars of heaven, and broughtest them to the land concerning which thou hadst said to their fathers, that they should go in and possess it. ²⁴ And the children came and possessed the land, and thou didst humble before them the inhabitants of the land, the Chanaanites, and gavest them into their hands, with their kings, and the people of the land, that they might do with them as it pleased them. ²⁵ And they took strong cities and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods: cisterns made by others, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance: and they ate, and were filled, and became fat, and abounded with delight in thy great goodness.

⁷ The things which before my soul would not touch, now, through anguish, are my meats.

³ Doth it seem good to thee that thou shouldst calumniate me, and oppress me, the work of thy own hands, and help the counsel of the wicked?

^{6 (4:7)} The light of thy countenance, O Lord, is signed upon us: thou hast given gladness in my heart.

¹ Unto the end, for her that obtaineth the inheritance. A psalm for David. ^(5:2) Give ear, O Lord, to my words, understand my cry.

^{7 (7:8)} And a congregation of people shall surround thee. And for their sakes return thou on high.

¹ A psalm for David. The Lord ruleth me: and I shall want nothing. ² He hath set me in a place of pasture. He hath brought me up, on the water of refreshment:

⁴ One thing I have asked of the Lord, this will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. That I may see the delight of the Lord, and may visit his temple.

⁹ Turn not away thy face from me; decline not in thy wrath from thy servant. Be thou my helper, forsake me not; do not thou despise me, O God my Saviour.

^{16 (31:17)} Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; save me in thy mercy.

¹³ The Lord hath looked from heaven: he hath beheld all the sons of men.

²³ Arise, and be attentive to my judgment: to my cause, my God, and my Lord.

^{11 (39:12)} Thou hast corrected man for iniquity. And thou hast made his soul to waste away like a spider: surely in vain is any man disquieted.

^{3 (42:4)} My tears have been my bread day and night, whilst it is said to me daily: Where is thy God?

^{2 (44:3)} Thy hand destroyed the Gentiles, and thou plantedst them: thou didst afflict the people and cast them out. ^{3 (44:4)} For they got not the possession of the land by their own sword: neither did their own arm save them. But thy right hand and thy arm, and the light of thy countenance: because thou wast pleased with them.

^{13 (44:14)} Thou hast made us a reproach to our neighbours, a scoff and derision to them that are round about us. ^{14 (44:15)} Thou hast made us a byword among the Gentiles: a shaking of the head among the people.

²³ Arise, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, and cast us not off to the end. ²⁴ Why turnest thou thy face away? and forgettest our want and our trouble? ²⁵ For our soul is humbled down to the dust: our belly cleaveth to the earth. ²⁶ Arise, O Lord, help us and redeem us for thy name's sake.

There was a man, an householder, who planted a vineyard and made a hedge round about it and dug in it a press and built a tower and let it out to husbandmen and went into a strange country. ³⁴ And when the time of the fruits drew nigh, he sent his servants to the husbandmen that they might receive the fruits thereof. ³⁵ And the husbandmen laying hands on his servants, beat one and killed another and stoned another. ³⁶ Again he sent other servants, more than the former; and they did to them in like manner. ³⁷ And last of all he sent to them his son, saying: They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But the husbandmen seeing the son, said among themselves: This is the heir: come, let us kill him, and we shall have his inheritance. ³⁹ And taking him, they cast him forth out of the vineyard and killed him. ⁴⁰ When therefore the lord of the vineyard shall come, what will he do to those husbandmen? ⁴¹ They say to him: He will bring those evil men to an evil end and let out his vineyard to other husbandmen that shall render him the fruit in due season.

He who honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father who hath sent him. ²⁴ Amen, amen, I say unto you that he who heareth my word and believeth him that sent me hath life everlasting: and cometh not into judgment, but is passed from death to life. ²⁵ Amen, amen, I say unto you, that the hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father hath life in himself, so he hath given to the Son also to have life in himself. ²⁷ And he hath given him power to do judgment, because he is the Son of man. ²⁸ Wonder not at this: for the hour cometh wherein all that are in the graves shall hear the voice of the Son of God. ²⁹ And they that have done good things shall come forth unto the resurrection of life: but they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment.

Thou hast the words of eternal life. ^{69 (6:70)} And we have believed and have known that thou art the Christ, the Son of God.

³ To him the porter openeth: and the sheep hear his voice. And he calleth his own sheep by name and leadeth them out. ⁴ And when he hath let out his own sheep, he goeth before them: and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice.

¹⁴ I am the good shepherd: and I know mine, and mine know me.

He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. ⁶ If any one abide not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch and shall wither: and they shall gather him up and cast him into the fire: and he burneth.

⁴⁵ Which also our fathers receiving, brought in with Jesus, into the possession of the Gentiles: whom God drove out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David,

¹⁶ After these things I will return and will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down: and the ruins thereof I will rebuild. And I will set it up:

¹ And you, when you were dead in your offences and sins, ² Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of this air, of the spirit that now worketh on the children of unbelief: ³ In which also we all conversed in time past, in the desires of our flesh, fulfilling the will of the flesh and of our thoughts, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest: ⁴ But God (who is rich in mercy) for his exceeding charity wherewith he loved us ⁵ Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together in Christ (by whose grace you are saved)

¹² Wherefore, my dearly beloved, (as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only but much more now in my absence) with fear and trembling work out your salvation. ¹³ For it is God who worketh in you, both to will and to accomplish, according to his good will.

⁹ Who shall suffer eternal punishment in destruction, from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his power:

²⁵ With modesty admonishing them that resist the truth: if peradventure God may give them repentance to know the truth; ²⁶ And they may recover themselves from the snares of the devil by whom they are held captive at his will.

³⁸ But my just man liveth by faith: but if he withdraw himself, he shall not please my soul. ³⁹ But we are not the children of withdrawing unto perdition, but of faith to the saving of the soul.

²⁰ And may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead the great pastor of the sheep, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the blood of the everlasting testament,

²⁵ For you were as sheep going astray: but you are now converted to the shepherd and bishop of your souls.

⁴ And when the prince of pastors shall appear, you shall receive a never fading crown of glory.

¹⁰ And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them and make merry: and shall send gifts one to another, because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt upon the earth.

²³ And the city hath no need of the sun, nor of the moon, to shine in it. For the glory of God hath enlightened it: and the Lamb is the lamp thereof.
