⁷² And he fed them in the innocence of his heart: and conducted them by the skilfulness of his hands.

¹⁵ And David reigned over all Israel: and David did judgment and justice to all his people.

⁶ And Solomon said: Thou hast shewed great mercy to thy servant David, my father, even as he walked before thee in truth, and justice, and an upright heart with thee: and thou hast kept thy great mercy for him, and hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. ⁷ And now, O Lord God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David, my father: and I am but a child, and know not how to go out and come in; ⁸ And thy servant is in the midst of the people which thou hast chosen, an immense people, which cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ Give therefore to thy servant an understanding heart, to judge thy people, and discern between good and evil. For who shall be able to judge this people, thy people, which is so numerous?

²⁸ And all Israel heard the judgment which the king had judged, and they feared the king, seeing that the wisdom of God was in him to do judgment.

⁴ And if thou wilt walk before me, as thy father walked, in simplicity of heart, and in uprightness: and wilt do all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my ordinances, and my judgments,

⁵ Because David had done that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, and had not turned aside from any thing that he commanded him, all the days of his life, except the matter of Urias, the Hethite.

¹ A psalm for David himself. Mercy and judgment I will sing to thee, O Lord: I will sing, ² And I will understand in the unspotted way, when thou shalt come to me. I walked in the innocence of my heart, in the midst of my house. ³ I will not set before my eyes any unjust thing: I hated the workers of iniquities. ⁴ The perverse heart did not cleave to me: and the malignant, that turned aside from me, I would not know. ⁵ The man that in private detracted his neighbour, him did I persecute. With him that had a proud eye, and an unsatiable heart, I would not eat. ⁶ My eyes were upon the faithful of the earth, to sit with me: the man that walked in the perfect way, he served me. ⁷ He that worketh pride shall not dwell in the midst of my house: he that speaketh unjust things did not prosper before my eyes. ⁸ In the morning I put to death all the wicked of the land: that I might cut off all the workers of iniquity from the city of the Lord.

² And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him: the spirit of wisdom, and of understanding, the spirit of counsel, and of fortitude, the spirit of knowledge, and of godliness. ³ And he shall be filled with the spirit of the fear of the Lord, He shall not judge according to the sight of the eyes, nor reprove according to the hearing of the ears. ⁴ But he shall judge the poor with justice, and shall reprove with equity the meek of the earth: and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked.

¹⁵ And the Lord said to me: Take to thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd. ¹⁶ For behold I will raise up a shepherd in the land, who shall not visit what is forsaken, nor seek what is scattered, nor heal what is broken, nor nourish that which standeth, and he shall eat the flesh of the fat ones, and break their hoofs. ¹⁷ O shepherd, and idol, that forsaketh the flock: the sword upon his arm and upon his right eye: his arm shall quite wither away, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

²² And when he had removed him, he raised them up David to be king: to whom giving testimony, he said: I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man according to my own heart, who shall do all my wills.

³⁶ For David, when he had served in his generation, according to the will of God, slept: and was laid unto his fathers and saw corruption.

⁵ Not that we are sufficient to think any thing of ourselves, as of ourselves: but our sufficiency is from God. ⁶ Who also hath made us fit ministers of the new testament, not in the letter but in the spirit. For the letter killeth: but the spirit quickeneth.

¹⁵ Carefully study to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

⁵ But if any of you want wisdom, let him ask of God who giveth to all men abundantly and upbraideth not. And it shall be given him.
