¹ The prayer of David. Hear, O Lord, my justice: attend to my supplication. They are full of children: and they have left to their little ones the rest of their substance. ¹⁵ But as for me, I will appear before thy sight in justice: I shall be satisfied when thy glory shall appear.

⁵ And God seeing that the wickedness of men was great on the earth, and that all the thought of their heart was bent upon evil at all times,

And Abner said: As thy soul liveth, O king, I know not. ⁵⁶ And the king said: Inquire thou, whose son this young man is. ⁵⁷ And when David was returned, after the Philistine was slain, Abner took him, and brought him in before Saul, with the head of the Philistine in his hand.

²⁸ Forgive the iniquity of thy handmaid: for the Lord will surely make for my lord a faithful house, because thou, my lord, fightest the battles of the Lord: let not evil therefore be found in thee all the days of thy life. ²⁹ For if a man at any time shall rise, and persecute thee, and seek thy life, the soul of my lord shall be kept, as in the bundle of the living, with the Lord thy God: but the souls of thy enemies shall be whirled, as with the violence and whirling of a sling.

¹¹ The Lord be merciful unto me, and keep me that I never put forth my hand against the Lord's anointed. But now take the spear which is at his head, and the cup of water, and let us go.

²³ And the Lord will reward every one according to his justice, and his faithfulness: for the Lord hath delivered thee this day into my hand, and I would not put forth my hand against the Lord's anointed.

²² Whom hast thou reproached, and whom hast thou blasphemed? against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thy eyes on high? against the holy one of Israel.

³⁴ And I will protect this city, and will save it for my own sake, and for David, my servant's sake.

⁹ And I have given a place my people Israel: they shall be planted, and shall dwell therein, and shall be moved no more, neither shall the children of iniquity waste them, as at the beginning,

¹⁵ My eyes also shall be open, and my ears attentive to the prayer of him that shall pray in this place.

⁹ For the eyes of the Lord behold all the earth, and give strength to those who with a perfect heart trust in him. Wherefore thou hast done foolishly, and for this cause from this time wars shall arise against thee.

⁶ Let thy ears be attentive, and thy eyes open, to hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, night and day, for the children of Israel thy servants: and I confess the sins of the children of Israel, by which they have sinned against thee: I and my father's house have sinned.

⁶ The tabernacles of robbers abound, and they provoke God boldly; whereas it is he that hath given all into their hands:

¹² So man when he is fallen asleep shall not rise again; till the heavens be broken, he shall not awake, nor rise up out of his sleep.

¹⁶ How much more is man abominable, and unprofitable, who drinketh iniquity like water?

²⁷ Fatness hath covered his face, and the fat hangeth down on his sides.

²⁶ And I shall be clothed again with my skin, and in my flesh I shall see my God. ²⁷ Whom I myself shall see, and my eyes shall behold, and not another: this my hope is laid up in my bosom.

⁷ Why then do the wicked live, are they advanced, and strengthened with riches? ⁸ Their seed continueth before them, a multitude of kinsmen, and of children's children in their sight. ⁹ Their houses are secure and peaceable, and the rod of God is not upon them. ¹⁰ Their cattle have conceived, and failed not: their cow has calved, and is not deprived of her fruit. ¹¹ Their little ones go out like a flock, and their children dance and play. ¹² They take the timbrel, and the harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. ¹³ They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment they go down to hell. ¹⁴ Who have said to God: Depart from us, we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. ¹⁵ Who is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what doth it profit us if we pray to him?

²¹ For what is it to him what befalleth his house after him: and if the number of his months be diminished by one half?

¹⁰ But he knoweth my way, and has tried me as gold that passeth through the fire: ¹¹ My foot hath followed his steps, I have kept his way, and have not declined from it.

³³ If as a man I have hid my sin, and have concealed my iniquity in my bosom.

Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; their feet are swift to shed blood. Destruction and unhappiness in their ways; and the way of peace they have not known: there is no fear of God before their eyes.

⁷ I will bless the Lord, who hath given me understanding: moreover, my reins also have corrected me even till night.

⁵ To them that come from a country afar off, from the end of heaven: the Lord and the instruments of his wrath, to destroy the whole land.

¹⁹ Thy dead men shall live, my slain shall rise again: awake, and give praise, ye that dwell in the dust: for thy dew is the dew of the light: and the land of the giants thou shalt pull down into ruin.

¹³ And the Lord said: Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips glorify me, but their heart is far from me, and they have feared me with the commandment and doctrines of men:

¹⁷ Incline, O Lord, thy ear, and hear: open, O Lord, thy eyes, and see, and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which he hath sent to blaspheme the living God.

²⁰ And now, O Lord our God, save us out of his hand: and let all the kingdoms of the earth know, that thou only art the Lord.

²⁶ Hast thou not heard what I have done to him of old? from the days of old I have formed it: and now I have brought it to effect: and it hath come to pass that hills fighting together, and fenced cities should be destroyed.

¹⁰ Fear not, for I am with thee: turn not aside, for I am thy God: I have strengthened thee, and have helped thee, and the right hand of my just one hath upheld thee.

⁹ Arise, arise, put on strength, O thou arm of the Lord, arise as in the days of old, in the ancient generations. Hast not thou struck the proud one, and wounded the dragon?

¹⁰ And after all this, her treacherous sister Juda hath not returned to me with her whole heart, but with falsehood, saith the Lord.

²³ I know, O Lord, that the way of a man is not his: neither is it in a man to walk, and to direct his steps.

²⁰ In those days, and at that time, saith the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none: and the sin of Juda, and there shall none be found: for I will be merciful to them, whom I shall leave.

²⁵ And you have said: The way of the Lord is not right. Hear ye, therefore, O house of Israel: Is it my way that is not right, and are not rather your ways perverse?

²⁹ And the children of Israel say: The way of the Lord is not right. Are not my ways right, O house of Israel, and are not rather your ways perverse?

¹⁷ And the children of thy people have said: The way of the Lord is not equitable: whereas their own way is unjust.

²⁰ And you say: The way of the Lord is not right, I will judge every one of you according to his ways, O house of Israel.

¹⁷ Now, therefore, O our God, hear the supplication of thy servant, and his prayers: and shew thy face upon thy sanctuary, which is desolate, for thy own sake. ¹⁸ Incline, O my God, thy ear, and hear: open thy eyes, and see our desolation, and the city upon which thy name is called: for it is not for our justifications that we present our prayers before thy face, but for the multitude of thy tender mercies. ¹⁹ O Lord, hear: O Lord, be appeased: hearken, and do: delay not, for thy own sake, O my God: because thy name is invocated upon thy city, and upon thy people.

⁶ Because they have applied their heart like an oven, when he laid snares for them: he slept all the night baking them, in the morning he himself was heated as a flaming fire.

¹ Woe to you that devise that which is unprofitable, and work evil in your beds: in the morning light they execute it, because their hand is against God.

¹² Wast thou not from the beginning, O Lord my God, my holy one, and we shall not die? Lord, thou hast appointed him for judgment: and made him strong for correction.

⁸ For thus saith the Lord of hosts: After the glory he hath sent me to the nations that have robbed you: for he that toucheth you, toucheth the apple of my eye:

⁹ And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined: and I will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say: Thou art my people: and they shall say: The Lord is my God.

² And who shall be able to think of the day of his coming? and who shall stand to see him? for he is like a refining fire, and like thc fuller's herb:

⁴ Who answered and said: It is written, Not in bread alone doth man live, but in every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God.

⁷ Jesus said to him: It is written again: Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

¹⁰ Then Jesus saith to him: Begone, Satan: for it is written: The Lord thy God shalt thou adore, and him only shalt thou serve.

⁶ Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill.

¹⁵ For the heart of this people is grown gross, and with their ears they have been dull of hearing, and their eyes they have shut: lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

⁴⁴ The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field. Which a man having found, hid it, and for joy thereof goeth, and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

⁸ This people honoureth me with their lips: but their heart is far from me.

³⁷ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets and stonest them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered together thy children, as the hen doth gather her chickens under her wings, and thou wouldst not?

⁵² And the graves were opened: and many bodies of the saints that had slept arose, ⁵³ And coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, came into the holy city and appeared to many.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul: Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years. Take thy rest: eat, drink, make good cheer. ²⁰ But God said to him: Thou fool, this night do they require thy soul of thee. And whose shall those things be which thou hast provided? ²¹ So is he that layeth up treasure for himself and is not rich towards God.

³⁴ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets; and stonest them that are sent to thee, how often would I have gathered thy children as the bird doth her brood under her wings, and thou wouldest not?

⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward, forasmuch as he had done wisely: for the children of this world are wiser in their generation than the children of light.

²⁵ And Abraham said to him: Son, remember that thou didst receive good things in thy lifetime, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted and thou art tormented.

²⁷ And he said: Then, father, I beseech thee that thou wouldst send him to my father's house, for I have five brethren, ²⁸ That he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torments.

⁴⁷ Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him and he saith of him: Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no guile.

²³ And he said to them: You are from beneath: I am from above. You are of this world: I am not of this world.

¹⁹ If you had been of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

¹⁴ I have given them thy word, and the world hath hated them: because they are not of the world, as I also am not of the world.

¹⁷ Sanctify them in truth. Thy word is truth.

³³ Being exalted therefore by the right hand of God and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath poured forth this which you see and hear.

²⁸ To do what thy hand and thy counsel decreed to be done.

²³ Who, when he was come and had seen the grace of God, rejoiced. And he exhorted them all with purpose of heart to continue in the Lord.

⁹ And a vision was shewed to Paul in the night, which was a man of Macedonia standing and beseeching him and saying: Pass over into Macedonia and help us.

⁹ And the Lord said to Paul in the night, by a vision: Do not fear, but speak. And hold not thy peace, ¹⁰ Because I am with thee and no man shall set upon thee, to hurt thee. For I have much people in this city.

²⁷ For the heart of this people is grown gross, and with their ears have they heard heavily and their eyes they have shut, lest perhaps they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and should be converted: and I should heal them.

²⁰ Now the law entered in that sin might abound. And where sin abounded, grace did more abound. ²¹ That as sin hath reigned to death: so also grace might reign by justice unto life everlasting, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

³ For, whereas there is among you envying and contention, are you not carnal and walk you not according to man?

⁴ For I am not conscious to myself of anything. Yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.

¹² For our glory is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity of heart and sincerity of God, and not in carnal wisdom, but in the grace of God, we have conversed in this world: and more abundantly towards you.

¹⁸ But we all, beholding the glory of the Lord with open face, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as by the Spirit of the Lord.

¹⁷ And take unto you the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God).

²¹ Who will reform the body of our lowness, made like to the body of his glory, according to the operation whereby also he is able to subdue all things unto himself.

⁶ Seeing it is a just thing with God to repay tribulation to them that trouble you: ⁷ And to you who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with the angels of his power: ⁸ In a flame of fire, giving vengeance to them who know not God and who obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ Who shall suffer eternal punishment in destruction, from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his power:

¹⁷ But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, that by me the preaching may be accomplished and that all the Gentiles may hear. And I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

¹⁸ For of his own will hath he begotten us by the word of truth, that we might be some beginning of his creature.

² For in many things we all offend. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man. He is able also with a bridle to lead about the whole body.

⁵ You have feasted upon earth: and in riotousness you have nourished your hearts, in the day of slaughter.

⁷ That the trial of your faith (much more precious than gold which is tried by the fire) may be found unto praise and glory and honour at the appearing of Jesus Christ.

² That now he may live the rest of his time in the flesh, not after the desires of men but according to the will of God. ³ For the time past is sufficient to have fulfilled the will of the Gentiles, for them who have walked in riotousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings and unlawful worshipping of idols.

⁸ Be sober and watch: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour.

¹⁸ For, speaking proud words of vanity, they allure by the desires of fleshly riotousness those who for a little while escape, such as converse in error:

² Dearly beloved, we are now the sons of God: and it hath not yet appeared what we shall be. We know that when he shall appear we shall be like to him: because we shall see him as he is. ³ And every one that hath this hope in him sanctifieth himself, as he also is holy.

²¹ Dearly beloved, if our heart do not reprehend us, we have confidence towards God.

⁴ You are of God, little children, and have overcome him. Because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. ⁵ They are of the world. Therefore of the world they speak: and the world heareth them.

²⁴ Now to him who is able to preserve you without sin and to present you spotless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

¹⁶ They shall no more hunger nor thirst: neither shall the sun fall on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb, which is in the midst of the throne, shall rule them and shall lead them to the fountains of the waters of life: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

¹¹ A king, the angel of the bottomless pit (whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek Apollyon, in Latin Exterminans).

¹¹ And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of the testimony: and they loved not their lives unto death.

⁵ And there was given to him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies: and power was given to him to do, two and forty months. ⁶ And he opened his mouth unto blasphemies against God, to blaspheme his name and his tabernacle and them that dwell in heaven.

³ And singing the canticle of Moses, the servant of God, and the canticle of the Lamb, saying: Great and wonderful are thy works, O Lord God Almighty. Just and true are thy ways, O King of ages.

³ And I heard a great voice from the throne, saying: Behold the tabernacle of God with men: and he will dwell with them. And they shall be his people: and God himself with them shall be their God. ⁴ And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes: and death shall be no more. Nor mourning, nor crying, nor sorrow shall be any more, for the former things are passed away.

²³ And the city hath no need of the sun, nor of the moon, to shine in it. For the glory of God hath enlightened it: and the Lamb is the lamp thereof.
