^{4 (142:5)} I looked on my right hand, and beheld, and there was no one that would know me. Flight hath failed me: and there is no one that hath regard to my soul.

¹¹ Will the men of Ceila deliver me into his hands? and will Saul come down, as thy servant hath heard? O Lord God of Israel, tell thy servant. And the Lord said: He will come down. ¹² And David said: Will the men of Ceila deliver me and my men into the hands of Saul? And the Lord said: They will deliver thee up. ¹³ Then David and his men, who were about six hundred, arose, and departing from Ceila, wandered up and down, uncertain where they should stay: and it was told Saul that David was fled from Ceila, and had escaped: wherefore he forbore to go out.

¹⁹ And the Ziphites went up to Saul, in Gabaa, saying: Lo, doth not David lie hid with us in the strong holds of the wood, in mount Hachila, which is on the right hand of the desert. ²⁰ Now therefore come down, as thy soul hath desired to come down: and it shall be our business to deliver him into the king's hands.

¹ And David said in his heart: I shall one day or other fall into the hands of Saul: is it not better for me to flee, and to be saved in the land of the Philistines, that Saul may despair of me, and cease to seek me in all the coasts of Israel? I will flee then out of his hands.

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall decay, and the way to escape shall fail them, and their hope the abomination of the soul.

¹³ He hath put my brethren far from me, and my acquaintance like strangers have departed from me. ¹⁴ My kinsmen have forsaken me, and they that knew me, have forgotten me. ¹⁵ They that dwell in my house, and my maidservants have counted me as a stranger, and I have been like an alien in their eyes. ¹⁶ I called my servant, and he gave me no answer, I entreated him with my own mouth. ¹⁷ My wife hath abhorred my breath, and I entreated the children of my womb. ¹⁸ Even fools despised me, and when I was gone from them, they spoke against me. ¹⁹ They that were sometime my counsellors, have abhorred me: and he whom I loved most is turned against me.

^{11 (31:12)} I am become a reproach among all my enemies, and very much to my neighbours; and a fear to my acquaintance. They that saw me without fled from me.

^{20 (69:21)} In thy sight are all they that afflict me; my heart hath expected reproach and misery. And I looked for one that would grieve together with me, but there was none: and for one that would comfort me, and I found none.

¹⁷ For I will close up thy scar, and will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord. Because they have called thee, O Sion, an outcast: This is she that hath none to seek after her.

⁵⁶ Now all this was done that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then the disciples, all leaving him, fled.

¹⁶ At my first answer, no man stood with me: but all forsook me. May it not be laid to their charge!
