²³ Much food is in the tillage of fathers: but for others it is gathered without judgment.

⁵ Acceptable is the man that sheweth mercy and lendeth: he shall order his words with judgment:

⁶ Go to the ant, O sluggard, and consider her ways, and learn wisdom: ⁷ Which, although she hath no guide, nor master, nor captain, ⁸ Provideth her meat for herself in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. ⁹ How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? ¹⁰ Thou wilt sleep a little, thou wilt slumber a little, thou wilt fold thy hands a little to sleep: ¹¹ And want shall come upon thee, as a traveller, and poverty as a man armed. But if thou be diligent, thy harvest shall come as a fountain, and want shall flee far from thee.

⁵ The justice of the upright shall make his way prosperous: and the wicked man shall fall by his own wickedness. ⁶ The justice of the righteous shall deliver them: and the unjust shall be caught in their own snares.

¹¹ He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that pursueth idleness is very foolish.

¹⁴ By the fruit of his own mouth shall a man be filled wlth good things, and according to the works of his hands it shall be repaid him.

¹⁸ He that keepeth the fig tree, shall eat the fruit thereof: and he that is the keeper of his master, shall be glorified.

²³ Be diligent to know the countenance of thy cattle, and consider thy own flocks: ²⁴ For thou shalt not always have power: but a crown shall be given to generation and generation. ²⁵ The meadows are open, and the green herbs have appeared, and the hay is gathered out of the mountains. ²⁶ Lambs are for thy clothing: and kids for the price of the field. ²⁷ Let the milk of the goats be enough for thy food, and for the necessities of thy house, and for maintenance for thy handmaids.

Indeed the lying pens of the scribes hath wrought falsehood. ⁹ The wise men are confounded, they are dismayed, and taken: for they have cast away the word of the Lord, and there is no wisdom in them. ¹⁰ Therefore will I give their women to strangers, their fields to others for an inheritance: because from the least even to the greatest all follow covetousness: from the prophet even to the priest all deal deceitfully.
