¹ Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy, a brother: to Philemon, our beloved and fellow labourer, ² And to Appia, our dearest sister, and to Archippus, our fellow soldier, and to the church which is in thy house. ³ Grace to you and peace, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. ⁴ I give thanks to my God, always making a remembrance of thee in my prayers. ⁵ Hearing of thy charity and faith, which thou hast in the Lord Jesus and towards all the saints: ⁶ That the communication of thy faith may be made evident in the acknowledgment of every good work that is in you in Christ Jesus. ⁷ For I have had great joy and consolation in thy charity, because the bowels of the saints have been refreshed by thee, brother. ⁸ Wherefore, though I have much confidence in Christ Jesus to command thee that which is to the purpose: ⁹ For charity sake I rather beseech, whereas thou art such a one, as Paul, an old man and now a prisoner also of Jesus Christ. ¹⁰ I beseech thee for my son, whom I have begotten in my bands, Onesimus, ¹¹ Who hath been heretofore unprofitable to thee but now is profitable both to me and thee: ¹² Whom I have sent back to thee. And do thou receive him as my own bowels. ¹³ Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered to me in the bands of the gospel. ¹⁴ But without thy counsel I would do nothing: that thy good deed might not be as it were of necessity, but voluntary. ¹⁵ For perhaps he therefore departed for a season from thee that thou mightest receive him again for ever: ¹⁶ Not now as a servant, but instead of a servant, a most dear brother, especially to me. But how much more to thee, both in the flesh and in the Lord? ¹⁷ If therefore thou count me a partner, receive him as myself. ¹⁸ And if he hath wronged thee in any thing or is in thy debt, put that to my account. ¹⁹ I Paul have written it with my own hand: I will repay it: not to say to thee that thou owest me thy own self also. ²⁰ Yea, brother. May I enjoy thee in the Lord! Refresh my bowels in the Lord. ²¹ Trusting in thy obedience, I have written to thee: knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say. ²² But withal prepare me also a lodging. For I hope that through your prayers I shall be given unto you. ²³ There salute thee Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus: ²⁴ Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke, my fellow labourers. ²⁵ The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

⁵ Be not afraid, and let it not seem to you a hard case that you sold me into these countries: for God sent me before you into Egypt for your preservation. ⁶ For it is two years since the famine began to be upon the land, and five years more remain, wherein there can be neither ploughing nor reaping. ⁷ And God sent me before, that you may be preserved upon the earth, and may have food to live. ⁸ Not by your counsel was I sent hither, but by the will of God: who hath made me as it were a father to Pharao, and lord of his whole house, and governor in all the land of Egypt.

²⁰ You thought evil against me: but God turned it into good, that he might exalt me, as at present you see, and might save many people.

⁶ If thy brother the son of thy mother, or thy son, or daughter, or thy wife that is in thy bosom, or thy friend, whom thou lovest as thy own soul, would persuade thee secretly, saying: Let us go, and serve strange gods, which thou knowest not, nor thy fathers,

¹ And David said: Is there any one, think you, left of the house of Saul, that I may shew kindness to him for Jonathan's sake? ² Now there was of the house of Saul, a servant named Siba: and when the king had called him to him, he said to him: Art thou Siba? And he answered: I am Siba thy servant. ³ And the king said: Is there any one left of the house of Saul, that I may shew the mercy of God unto Him? And Siba said to the king: There is a son of Jonathan left, who is lame of his feet. ⁴ Where is he? said he. And Siba said to the king: Behold he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel in Lodabar. ⁵ Then King David sent, and brought him out of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodabar. ⁶ And when Miphiboseth the son of Jonathan the son of Saul was come to David, he fell on his face and worshipped. And David said: Miphiboseth? And he answered: Behold thy servant. ⁷ And David said to him: Fear not, for I will surely shew thee mercy for Jonathan thy father's sake, and I will restore the lands of Saul the father, and thou shalt eat bread at my table always.

³⁷ But I beseech thee let thy servant return, and die in my own city, and be buried by the sepulchre of my father, and of my mother. But there is thy servant Chamaam, let him go with thee, my lord, the king, and do to him whatsoever seemeth good to thee. ³⁸ Then the king said to him: Let Chamaam go over with me, and I will do for him whatsoever shall please thee, and all that thou shalt ask of me, thou shalt obtain.

¹⁷ I know my God that thou provest hearts, and lovest simplicity, wherefore I also in the simplicity of my heart, have joyfully offered all these things: and I have seen with great joy thy people, which are here present, offer thee their offerings.

¹ But now the younger in time scorn me, whose fathers I would not have set with the dogs of my flock: ² The strength of whose hands was to me as nothing, and they were thought unworthy of life itself.

³ To the saints, who are in his land, he hath made wonderful all my desires in them.

⁹ Cast me not off in the time of old age: when my strength shall fail, do not thou forsake me.

¹⁸ And unto old age and grey hairs: O God, forsake me not, Until I shew forth thy arm to all the generation that is to come: Thy power,

³ With thee is the principality in the day of thy strength: in the brightness of the saints: from the womb before the day star I begot thee.

⁶ And the inhabitants of this isle shall say in that day: Lo this was our hope, to whom we fled for help, to deliver us from the face of the king of the Assyrians: and how shall we be able to escape?

⁴ Even to your old age I am the same, and to your grey hairs I will carry you: I have made you, and I will bear: I will carry and will save.

⁴ Surely he hath borne our infirmities and carried our sorrows: and we have thought him as it were a leper, and as one struck by God and afflicted. ⁵ But he was wounded for our iniquities, he was bruised for our sins: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his bruises we are healed. ⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray, every one hath turned aside into his own way: and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. ⁷ He was offered because it was his own will, and he opened not his mouth: he shall be led as a sheep to the slaughter, and shall be dumb as a lamb before his shearer, and he shall not open his mouth.

²⁰ Surely Ephraim is an honourable son to me, surely he is a tender child: for since I spoke of him, I will still remember him. Therefore are my bowels troubled for him: pitying I will pity him, saith the Lord.

¹⁶ So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

¹⁴ For if you will forgive men their offences, your heavenly Father will forgive you also your offences. ¹⁵ But if you will not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your offences.

⁴⁸ But he answering him that told him, said: Who is my mother, and who are my brethren? ⁴⁹ And stretching forth his hand towards his disciples, he said: Behold my mother and my brethren. ⁵⁰ For whosoever shall do the will of my Father, that is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother.

⁵ And he that shall receive one such little child in my name, receiveth me.

²¹ Then came Peter unto him and said: Lord, how often shall my brother offend against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? ²² Jesus saith to him: I say not to thee, till seven times; but till seventy times seven times. ²³ Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened to a king, who would take an account of his servants. ²⁴ And when he had begun to take the account, one as brought to him, that owed him ten thousand talents. ²⁵ And as he had not wherewith to pay it, his lord commanded that he should be sold, and his wife and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. ²⁶ But that servant falling down, besought him, saying: Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. ²⁷ And the lord of that servant being moved with pity, let him go and forgave him the debt. ²⁸ But when that servant was gone out, he found one of his fellow-servants that owed him an hundred pence: and laying hold of him, he throttled him, saying: Pay what thou owest. ²⁹ And his fellow-servant falling down, besought him, saying: Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. ³⁰ And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he paid the debt. ³¹ Now his fellow servants seeing what was done, were very much grieved, and they came, and told their lord all that was done. ³² Then his lord called him: and said to him: Thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all the debt, because thou besoughtest me: ³³ Shouldst not thou then have had compassion also on thy fellow servant, even as I had compassion on thee? ³⁴ And his lord being angry, delivered him to the torturers until he paid all the debt. ³⁵ So also shall my heavenly Father do to you, if you forgive not every one his brother from your hearts.

⁸ But be not you called Rabbi. For one is your master: and all you are brethren.

³⁰ And the unprofitable servant, cast ye out into the exterior darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁴⁰ And the king answering shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me.

³⁹ And Peter rising up went with them. And when he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber. And all the widows stood about him, weeping and shewing him the coats and garments which Dorcas made them. ⁴⁰ And they all being put forth, Peter, kneeling down, prayed. And turning to the body, he said: Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes and, seeing Peter, sat up. ⁴¹ And giving her his hand, he lifted her up. And when he had called the saints and the widows, he presented her alive.

³⁷ And Barnabas would have taken with them John also, that was surnamed Mark. ³⁸ But Paul desired that he (as having departed from them out of Pamphylia and not gone with them to the work) might not be received. ³⁹ And there arose a dissension so that they departed one from another. And Barnabas indeed, taking Mark, sailed to Cyprus.

¹⁵ And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying: If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and abide there. And she constrained us.

²⁹ And the whole city was filled with confusion. And having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.

² Going on board a ship of Adrumetum, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia, Aristarchus, the Macedonian of Thessalonica, continuing with us.

²³ And when they had appointed him a day, there came very many to him unto his lodgings. To whom he expounded, testifying the kingdom of God and persuading them concerning Jesus, out of the law of Moses and the prophets, from morning until evening.

⁷ To all that are at Rome, the beloved of God, called to be saints. Grace to you and peace, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. ⁸ First, I give thanks to my God, through Jesus Christ, for you all: because your faith is spoken of in the whole world.

¹² All have turned out of the way: they are become unprofitable together: there is none that doth good, there is not so much as one.

¹ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercy of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing unto God, your reasonable service.

²⁴ When I shall begin to take my journey into Spain, I hope that, as I pass, I shall see you and be brought on my way thither by you: if first, in part, I shall have enjoyed you. ²⁵ But now I shall go to Jerusalem, to minister unto the saints. ²⁶ For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a contribution for the poor of the saints that are in Jerusalem.

³⁰ I beseech you therefore, brethren, through our Lord Jesus Christ and by the charity of the Holy Ghost, that you help me in your prayers for me to God, ³¹ That I may be delivered from the unbelievers that are in Judea and that the oblation of my service may be acceptable in Jerusalem to the saints. ³² That I may come to you with joy, by the will of God, and may be refreshed with you.

⁵ And the church which is in their house. Salute Epenetus, my beloved: who is the firstfruits of Asia in Christ.

⁷ Salute Andronicus and Junias, my kinsmen and fellow prisoners: who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.

²⁰ And the God of peace crush Satan under your feet speedily. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

²³ Caius, my host, and the whole church saluteth you. Erastus, the treasurer of the city, saluteth you: and Quartus, a brother.

⁹ For we are God's coadjutors. You are God's husbandry: you are God's building.

¹⁵ For if you have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet not many fathers. For in Christ Jesus, by the gospel, I have begotten you.

²² For he that is called in the Lord, being a bondman, is the freeman of the Lord. Likewise he that is called, being free, is the bondman of Christ.

¹ Am I not I free? Am not I an apostle? Have not I seen Christ Jesus our Lord? Are not you my work in the Lord? ² And if unto others I be not an apostle, but yet to you I am. For you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

⁷ Who serveth as a soldier, at any time, at his own charges? Who planteth a vineyard and eateth not of the fruit thereof? Who feedeth the flock and eateth not of the milk of the flock?

¹⁷ For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation is committed to me.

²⁵ The secrets of his heart are made manifest. And so, falling down on his face, he will adore God, affirming that God is among you indeed.

¹ Now concerning the collections that are made for the saints: as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, so do ye also.

¹⁷ And I rejoice in the presence of Stephanus and Fortunatus and Achaicus: because that which was wanting on your part, they have supplied.

¹⁹ The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house, with whom I also lodge.

²¹ The salutation of me Paul, with my own hand. ²² If any man love not our Lord Jesus Christ, let him be anathema, maranatha.

¹¹ You helping withal in prayer for us. That for this gift obtained for us, by the means of many persons, thanks may be given by many in our behalf.

^{24 (1:23)} Not because we exercise dominion over your faith: but we are helpers of your joy. For in faith you stand.

⁵ Therefore I thought it necessary to desire the brethren that they would go to you before and prepare this blessing before promised, to be ready, so as a blessing, not as covetousness.

⁷ Every one as he hath determined in his heart, not with sadness or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

¹² Because the administration of this office doth not only supply the want of the saints, but aboundeth also by many thanksgivings in the Lord. ¹³ By the proof of this ministry, glorifying God for the obedience of your confession unto the gospel of Christ and for the simplicity of your communicating unto them and unto all. ¹⁴ And in their praying for you, being desirous of you, because of the excellent grace of God in you.

¹ Now I Paul, myself beseech you, by the mildness and modesty of Christ: who in presence indeed am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you. ² But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence wherewith I am thought to be bold, against some who reckon us as if we walked according to the flesh.

⁸ For if also I should boast somewhat more of our power, which the Lord hath given us unto edification and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed.

²¹ I seek according to dishonour, as if we had been weak in this part. Wherein if any man dare (I speak foolishly), I dare also.

^{14 (13:13)} The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the charity of God and the communication of the Holy Ghost be with you all. Amen.

¹⁵ Wherefore, I also, hearing of your faith that is in the Lord Jesus and of your love towards all the saints, ¹⁶ Cease not to give thanks for you, making commemoration of you in my prayers,

⁶ That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs and of the same body: and copartners of his promise in Christ Jesus, by the gospel

¹ I therefore, a prisoner in the Lord, beseech you that you walk worthy of the vocation in which you are called:

³² And be ye kind one to another: merciful, forgiving one another, even as God hath forgiven you in Christ.

⁴ Or obscenity or foolish talking or scurrility, which is to no purpose: but rather giving of thanks.

⁵ Servants, be obedient to them that are your lords according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in the simplicity of your heart, as to Christ. ⁶ Not serving to the eye, as it were pleasing men: but, as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. ⁷ With a good will serving, as to the Lord, and not to men.

²⁰ For which I am an ambassador in a chain: so that therein I may be bold to speak according as I ought.

³ I give thanks to my God in every remembrance of you:

⁷ As it is meet for me to think this for you all, for that I have you in my heart; and that, in my bands and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers of my joy. ⁸ For God is my witness how I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ. ⁹ And this I pray: That your charity may more and more abound in knowledge and in all understanding: ¹⁰ That you may approve the better things: that you may be sincere and without offence unto the day of Christ: ¹¹ Filled with the fruit of justice, through Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

¹⁹ For I know that this shall fall out to me unto salvation, through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

²⁵ And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all, for your furtherance and joy of faith: ²⁶ That your rejoicing may abound in Christ Jesus for me, by my coming to you again.

¹ If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of charity, if any society of the spirit, if any bowels of commiseration: ² Fulfil ye my joy, that you be of one mind, having the same charity, being of one accord, agreeing in sentiment.

²⁴ And I trust in the Lord that I myself also shall come to you shortly. ²⁵ But I have thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow labourer and fellow soldier, but your apostle: and he that hath ministered to my wants.

³⁰ Because for the work of Christ he came to the point of death: delivering his life, that he might fulfil that which on your part was wanting towards my service.

¹ Therefore my dearly beloved brethren and most desired, my joy and my crown: so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.

³ And I entreat thee also, my sincere companion, help those women who have laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement and the rest of my fellow labourers, whose names are in the book of life.

⁸ For the rest, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever modest, whatsoever just, whatsoever holy, whatsoever lovely, whatsoever of good fame, if there be any virtue, if any praise of discipline: think on these things.

⁹ With Onesimus, a most beloved and faithful brother, who is one of you. All things that are done here, they shall make known to you. ¹⁰ Aristarchus, my fellow prisoner, saluteth you: and Mark, the cousin german of Barnabas, touching whom you have received commandments. If he come unto you, receive him. ¹¹ And Jesus that is called Justus: who are of the circumcision. These only are my helpers, in the kingdom of God: who have been a comfort to me. ¹² Epaphras saluteth you, who is one of you, a servant of Christ Jesus, who is always solicitous for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and full in all the will of God.

¹⁴ Luke, the most dear physician, saluteth you: and Demas. ¹⁵ Salute the brethren who are at Laodicea: and Nymphas and the church that is in his house.

¹⁷ And say to Archippus: Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.

² Grace be to you and peace. We give thanks to God always for you all: making a remembrance of you in our prayers without ceasing, ³ Being mindful of the work of your faith and labour and charity: and of the enduring of the hope of our Lord Jesus Christ before God and our Father.

⁶ Nor sought we glory of men, neither of you, nor of others.
