⁴² Watch ye therefore, because you know not what hour your Lord will come.

³⁶ But of that day and hour no one knoweth: no, not the angels of heaven, but the Father alone.

Nevertheless, not as I will but as thou wilt. ⁴⁰ And he cometh to his disciples and findeth them asleep. And he saith to Peter: What? Could you not watch one hour with me? ⁴¹ Watch ye: and pray that ye enter not into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

³³ Take ye heed, watch and pray. For ye know not when the time is. ³⁴ Even as a man who, going into a far country, left his house and gave authority to his servants over every work and commanded the porter to watch. ³⁵ Watch ye therefore (for you know not when the lord of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cock crowing, or in the morning): ³⁶ Lest coming on a sudden, he find you sleeping. ³⁷ And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch.

³⁵ Let your loins be girt and lamps burning in your hands. ³⁶ And you yourselves like to men who wait for their lord, when he shall return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open to him immediately. ³⁷ Blessed are those servants whom the Lord, when he cometh, shall find watching. Amen I say to you that he will gird himself and make them sit down to meat and passing will minister unto them. ³⁸ And if he shall come in the second watch or come in the third watch and find them so, blessed are those servants. ³⁹ But this know ye, that if the householder did know at what hour the thief would come, he would surely watch and would not suffer his house to be broken open. ⁴⁰ Be you then also ready: for at what hour you think not the Son of man will come.

³⁶ Watch ye, therefore, praying at all times, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that are to come and to stand before the Son of man.

¹¹ And that, knowing the season, that it is now the hour for us to rise from sleep. For now our salvation is nearer than when we believed.

¹³ Watch ye: stand fast in the faith: do manfully and be strengthened.

⁶ Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do: but let us watch, and be sober.

⁷ But the end of all is at hand. Be prudent therefore and watch in prayers.

⁸ Be sober and watch: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour.

² Be watchful and strengthen the things that remain, which are ready to die. For I find not thy works full before my God. ³ Have in mind therefore in what manner thou hast received and heard: and observe and do penance: If then thou shalt not watch, I will come to thee as a thief: and thou shalt not know at what hour I will come to thee.

¹⁵ Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
