³⁸ But the husbandmen seeing the son, said among themselves: This is the heir: come, let us kill him, and we shall have his inheritance.

¹⁸ And when they saw him afar off, before he came nigh them, they thought to kill him: ¹⁹ And said one to another: Behold the dreamer cometh. ²⁰ Come, let us kill him, and cast him into some old pit: and we will say: Some evil beast hath devoured him: and then it shall appear what his dreams avail him:

² The kings of the earth stood up, and the princes met together, against the Lord, and against his Christ. ³ Let us break their bonds asunder: and let us cast away their yoke from us. ⁴ He that dwelleth in heaven shall laugh at them: and the Lord shall deride them. ⁵ Then shall he speak to them in his anger, and trouble them in his rage. ⁶ But I am appointed king by him over Sion, his holy mountain, preaching his commandment. ⁷ The Lord hath said to me: Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee. ⁸ Ask of me, and I will give thee the Gentiles for thy inheritance, and the utmost parts of the earth for thy possession.

¹³ And after they were departed, behold an angel of the Lord appeared in sleep to Joseph, saying: Arise, and take the child and his mother, and fly into Egypt: and be there until I shall tell thee. For it will come to pass that Herod will seek the child to destroy him. ¹⁴ Who arose, and took the child and his mother by night, and retired into Egypt: and he was there until the death of Herod: ¹⁵ That it might be fulfilled which the Lord spoke by the prophet, saying: Out of Egypt have I called my son. ¹⁶ Then Herod perceiving that he was deluded by the wise men, was exceeding angry: and sending killed all the menchildren that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

³ Then were gathered together the chief priests and ancients of the people, into the court of the high priest, who was called Caiphas: ⁴ And they consulted together that by subtilty they might apprehend Jesus and put him to death.

¹ And when morning was come, all the chief priests and ancients of the people took counsel against Jesus, that they might put him to death. ² And they brought him bound and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

⁷ But the husbandmen said one to another: This is the heir. Come let us kill him and the inheritance shall be ours. ⁸ And laying hold on him, they killed him and cast him out of the vineyard.

¹⁴ Whom, when the husbandmen saw, they thought within themselves, saying: This is the heir. Let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.

⁴⁷ The chief priests, therefore, and the Pharisees gathered a council and said: What do we, for this man doth many miracles? ⁴⁸ If we let him alone so, all will believe in him; and the Romans will come, and take away our place and nation. ⁴⁹ But one of them, named Caiphas, being the high priest that year, said to them: You know nothing. ⁵⁰ Neither do you consider that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people and that the whole nation perish not. ⁵¹ And this he spoke not of himself: but being the high priest of that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation. ⁵² And not only for the nation, but to gather together in one the children of God that were dispersed. ⁵³ From that day therefore they devised to put him to death.

²⁷ For of a truth there assembled together in this city against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, ²⁸ To do what thy hand and thy counsel decreed to be done.

²⁴ Now when the officer of the temple and the chief priests heard these words, they were in doubt concerning them, what would come to pass. ²⁵ But one came and told them: Behold, the men whom you put in prison are in the temple, standing and teaching the people. ²⁶ Then went the officer with the ministers and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned. ²⁷ And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, ²⁸ Saying: Commanding, we commanded you that you should not teach in this name. And behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine: and you have a mind to bring the blood of this man upon us.

² In these days, hath spoken to us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the world.
