³ And behold there appeared to them Moses and Elias talking with him.

¹⁸ I will raise them up a prophet out of the midst of their brethren like to thee: and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him.

⁵ And Moses the servant of the Lord died there, in the land of Moab, by the commandment of the Lord: ⁶ And he buried him in the valley of the land of Moab over against Phogor: and no man hath known of his sepulchre until this present day.

¹⁰ And there arose no more a prophet in Israel like unto Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face,

¹ And Elias the Thesbite, of the inhabitants of Galaad, said to Achab: As the Lord liveth, the God of Israel, in whose sight I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to the words of my mouth.

³⁶ And when it was now time to offer the holocaust, Elias, the prophet, came near and said: O Lord God of Abraham, and Isaac, and Israel, shew this day that thou art the God of Israel, and I thy servant, and that according to thy commandment I have done all these things. ³⁷ Dear me, O Lord, hear me: that this people may learn that thou art the Lord God, and that thou hast turned their heart again. ³⁸ Then the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the holocaust, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. ³⁹ And when all the people saw this, they fell on their faces, and they said: The Lord, he is God; the Lord, he is God. ⁴⁰ And Elias said to them: Take the prophets of Baal, and let not one of them escape. And when they had taken them, Elias brought them down to the torrent Cison, and killed them there.

¹¹ And as they went on, walking and talking together, behold, a fiery chariot and fiery horses parted them both asunder: and Elias went up by a whirlwind into heaven. ¹² And Eliseus saw him, and cried: My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the driver thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own garments, and rent them in two pieces. ¹³ And he took up the mantle of Elias, that fell from him: and going back, he stood on the bank of the Jordan; ¹⁴ And he struck the waters with the mantle of Elias, that had fallen from him, and they were not divided. And he said: Where is now the God of Elias? And he struck the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, and Eliseus passed over.

⁵ Behold, I will send you Elias the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

¹³ For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John: ¹⁴ And if you will receive it, he is Elias that is to come.

¹⁰ And his disciples asked him, saying: Why then do the scribes say that Elias must come first? ¹¹ But he answering, said to them: Elias indeed shall come, and restore all things. ¹² But I say to you, that Elias is already come, and they knew him not, But have done unto him whatsoever they had a mind. So also the Son of man shall suffer from them. ¹³ Then the disciples understood, that he had spoken to them of John the Baptist.

¹⁷ And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias: that he may turn the hearts of the fathers unto the children and the incredulous to the wisdom of the just, to prepare unto the Lord a perfect people.

³⁰ And behold two men were talking with him. And they were Moses and Elias, ³¹ Appearing in majesty. And they spoke of his decease that he should accomplish in Jerusalem.

³³ And it came to pass that, as they were departing from him, Peter saith to Jesus: Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses; and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.

¹⁶ The law and the prophets were until John. From that time the kingdom of God is preached: and every one useth violence towards it.

²⁷ And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded to them in all the scriptures the things that were concerning him.

⁴⁴ And he said to them: These are the words which I spoke to you while I was yet with you, that all things must needs be fulfilled which are written in the law of Moses and in the prophets and in the psalms, concerning me.

¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses: grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

⁴⁵ Think not that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one that accuseth you, Moses, in whom you trust. ⁴⁶ For if you did believe Moses, you would perhaps believe me also: for he wrote of me. ⁴⁷ But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?

⁷ Now if the ministration of death, engraven with letters upon stones, was glorious (so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses, for the glory of his countenance), which is made void: ⁸ How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather in glory? ⁹ For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more the ministration of justice aboundeth in glory. ¹⁰ For even that which was glorious in this part was not glorified by reason of the glory that excelleth. ¹¹ For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is in glory.

¹ Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly vocation consider the apostle and high priest of our confession, Jesus: ² Who is faithful to him that made him, as was also Moses in all his house. ³ For this man was counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, by so much as he that hath built the house hath greater honour than the house. ⁴ For every house is built by some man: but he that created all things is God. ⁵ And Moses indeed was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be said: ⁶ But Christ, as the Son in his own house: which house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and glory of hope unto the end.
