³⁸ And they cone to the house of the ruler of the synagogue; and he seeth a tumult, and people weeping and wailing much.

¹⁷ Thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel: Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, and let them come: and send to them that are wise women, and let them make haste: ¹⁸ Let them hasten and take up a lamentation for us: let our eyes shed tears, and our eyelids run down with waters. ¹⁹ For a voice of wailing is heard out of Sion: How are we wasted and greatly confounded? because we have left the land, because our dwellings are cast down. ²⁰ Hear therefore, ye women, the word of the Lord: and let your ears receive the word of his mouth: and teach your daughters wailing: and every one her neighbour mourning.

²³ And when Jesus was come into the house of the ruler, and saw the minstrels and the multitude making a rout, ²⁴ He said: Give place, for the girl is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.

²² And there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue named Jairus: and seeing him, falleth down at his feet.

⁵² And all wept and mourned for her. But he said: Weep not. The maid is not dead, but sleepeth. ⁵³ And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.

³⁹ And Peter rising up went with them. And when he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber. And all the widows stood about him, weeping and shewing him the coats and garments which Dorcas made them.
