⁵² He hath put down the mighty from their seat and hath exalted the humble.

⁴ The bow of the mighty is overcome, and the weak are girt with strength.

⁶ The Lord killeth and maketh alive, he bringeth down to hell, and bringeth back again. ⁷ The Lord maketh poor and maketh rich, he humbleth and he exalteth: ⁸ He raiseth up the needy from the dust, and lifteth up the poor from the dunghill: that he may sit with princes, and hold the throne of glory. For the poles of the earth are the Lord's, and upon them he hath set the world.

¹¹ Who setteth up the humble on high, and comforteth with health those that mourn. ¹² Who bringeth to nought the designs of the malignant, so that their hands cannot accomplish what they had begun: ¹³ Who catcheth the wise in their craftiness, and disappointeth the counsel of the wicked:

²⁴ He shall break in pieces many and innumerable, and shall make others to stand in their stead. ²⁵ For he knoweth their works: and therefore he shall bring night on them, and they shall be destroyed. ²⁶ He hath struck them, as being wicked, in open sight. ²⁷ Who as it were on purpose have revolted from him, and would not understand all his ways: ²⁸ So that they caused the cry of the needy to come to him, and he heard the voice of the poor.

⁴⁰ Contempt was poured forth upon their princes: and he caused them to wander where there was no passing, and out of the way. ⁴¹ And he helped the poor out of poverty: and made him families like a flock of sheep.

⁶ And looketh down on the low things in heaven and in earth? ⁷ Raising up the needy from the earth, and lifting up the poor out of the dunghill: ⁸ That he may place him with princes, with the princes of his people.

¹⁴ Because out of prison and chains sometimes a man cometh forth to a kingdom: and another born king is consumed with poverty.

²⁴ And all the trees of the country shall know that I the Lord have brought down the high tree, and exalted the low tree: and have dried up the green tree, and have caused the dry tree to flourish. I the Lord have spoken and have done it.

¹¹ In that day I will raise up the tabernacle of David, that is fallen: and I will close up the breaches of the walls thereof, and repair what was fallen: and I will rebuild it as in the days of old.

³ Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joseph, and Jude, and Simon? are not also his sisters here with us? And they were scandalized in regard of him.

¹⁴ I say to you, this man went down into his house justified rather than the other: because every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled: and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

⁹ But let the brother of low condition glory in his exaltation: ¹⁰ And the rich, in his being low: because as the flower of the grass shall he pass away.

¹⁰ Be humbled in the sight of the Lord: and he will exalt you.
