¹⁰ So I say to you, there shall be joy before the angels of God upon one sinner doing penance.

¹³ And he entreated him, and besought him earnestly: and he heard his prayer, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom, and Manasses knew that the Lord was God. ¹⁴ After this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of Gihon in the valley, from the entering in of the gate round about to Ophel, and raised it up to a great height: and he appointed captains of the army in all the fenced cities of Juda: ¹⁵ And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the Lord: the altars also which he had made in the mount of the house of the Lord, and in Jerusalem, and he cast them all out of the city. ¹⁶ And he repaired the altar of the Lord, and sacrificed upon it victims, and peace offerings, and praise: and he commanded Juda to serve the Lord the God of Israel. ¹⁷ Nevertheless the people still sacrificed in the high places to the Lord their God. ¹⁸ But the rest of the acts of Manasses, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers that spoke to him in the name of the Lord the God of Israel, are contained in the words of the kings of Israel. ¹⁹ His prayer also, and his being heard and all his sins, and contempt, and places wherein he built high places, and set up groves, and statues before he did penance, are written in the words of Hozai.

²³ Is it my will that a sinner should die, saith the Lord God, and not that he should be converted from his ways, and live?

³² For I desire not the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God, return ye and live.

¹¹ Say to them: As I live, saith the Lord God, I desire not the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way, and live. Turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways: and why will you die, O house of Israel?

¹⁰ See that you despise not one of these little ones: for I say to you, that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

¹⁴ Even so it is not the will of your Father, who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.

⁵ And the angel answering, said to the women: Fear not you: for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. ⁶ He is not here. For he is risen, as he said. Come, and see the place where the Lord was laid. ⁷ And going quickly, tell ye his disciples that he is risen. And behold he will go before you into Galilee. There you shall see him. Lo, I have foretold it to you.

¹ And it came to pass that in those days there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled. ² This enrolling was first made by Cyrinus, the governor of Syria. ³ And all went to be enrolled, every one into his own city. ⁴ And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: because he was of the house and family of David. ⁵ To be enrolled with Mary his espoused wife, who was with child. ⁶ And it came to pass that when they were there, her days were accomplished that she should be delivered. ⁷ And she brought forth her first born son and wrapped him up in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger: because there was no room for them in the inn. ⁸ And there were in the same country shepherds watching and keeping the night watches over their flock. ⁹ And behold an angel of the Lord stood by them and the brightness of God shone round about them: and they feared with a great fear. ¹⁰ And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy that shall be to all the people: ¹¹ For, this day is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David. ¹² And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger. ¹³ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God and saying: ¹⁴ Glory to God in the highest: and on earth peace to men of good will.

⁴⁷ Wherefore, I say to thee: Many sins are forgiven her, because she hath loved much. But to whom less is forgiven, he loveth less.

⁵ No, I say to you: but except you do penance, you shall all likewise perish.

⁷ I say to you that even so there shall be joy in heaven upon one sinner that doth penance, more than upon ninety-nine just who need not penance.

¹⁹ But an angel of the Lord by night, opening the doors of the prison and leading them out, said:

³ This man saw in a vision manifestly, about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in unto him and saying to him: Cornelius. ⁴ And he, beholding him. being seized with fear, said: What is it, Lord? And he said to him: Thy prayers and thy alms are ascended for a memorial in the sight of God. ⁵ And now send men to Joppe: and call hither one Simon, who is surnamed Peter.

¹⁸ Having heard these things, they held their peace and glorified God, saying: God then hath also to the Gentiles given repentance, unto life.

¹⁰ For the sorrow that is according to God worketh penance, steadfast unto salvation: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

¹⁵ For perhaps he therefore departed for a season from thee that thou mightest receive him again for ever:

¹⁴ Are they not all ministering spirits, sent to minister for them who shall receive the inheritance of salvation?

¹¹ And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the living creatures and the ancients (and the number of them was thousands of thousands), ¹² Saying with a loud voice: The Lamb that was slain is worthy to receive power and divinity and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and benediction. ¹³ And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard all saying: To him that sitteth on the throne and to the Lamb, benediction and honour and glory and power, for ever and ever. ¹⁴ And the four living creatures said: Amen. And the four and twenty ancients fell down on their faces and adored him that liveth for ever and ever.
