³ And I took your father Abraham from the borders of Mesopotamia: and brought him into the land of Chanaan: and I multiplied his seed,

¹ And the Lord said to Abram: Go forth out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and out of thy father's house, and come into the land which I shall shew thee. ² And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and magnify thy name, and thou shalt be blessed. ³ I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee, and IN THEE shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. ⁴ So Abram went out as the Lord had commanded him, and Lot went with him: Abram was seventy-five years old when he went forth from Haran.

⁵ And he brought him forth abroad, and said to him: Look up to heaven and number the stars if thou canst. And he said to him: So shall thy seed be.

² And she conceived and bore a son in her old age, at the time that God had foretold her. ³ And Abraham called the name of his son, whom Sara bore him, Isaac.

⁷ Thou O Lord God, art he who chosest Abram, and broughtest him forth out of the fire of the Chaldeans, and gavest him the name of Abraham. ⁸ And thou didst find his heart faithful before thee: and thou madest a covenant with him, to give him the land of the Chanaanite, of the Hethite, and of the Amorrhite, and of the Pherezite, and of the Jebusite, and of the Gergezite, to give it to his seed: and thou hast fulfilled thy words, because thou art just.

³ Behold the inheritance of the Lord are children: the reward, the fruit of the womb.

² Who said: Ye men, brethren and fathers, hear. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charan. ³ And said to him: Go forth out of thy country and from thy kindred: and come into the land which I shall shew thee.
