³⁸ Because I came down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him that sent me.

^{7 (40:8)} Then said I, Behold I come. In the head of the book it is written of me ^{8 (40:9)} That I should do thy will: O my God, I have desired it, and thy law in the midst of my heart.

³¹ He that cometh from above is above all. He that is of the earth, of the earth he is, and of the earth he speaketh. He that cometh from heaven is above all.

³⁴ Jesus saith to them: My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, that I may perfect his work.

³⁰ I cannot of myself do any thing. As I hear, so I judge. And my judgment is just: because I seek not my own will. but the will of him that sent me.

³³ For the bread of God is that which cometh down from heaven and giveth life to the world.

³ For Christ did not please himself: but, as it is written: The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell upon me.

⁹ Now that he ascended, what is it, but because he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

⁷ But emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and in habit found as a man. ⁸ He humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross.

⁸ And whereas indeed he was the Son of God, he learned obedience by the things which he suffered.

⁷ Then said I: Behold I come: in the head of the book it is written of me: that I should do thy will, O God. ⁸ In saying before, Sacrifices, and oblations, and holocausts for sin thou wouldest not, neither are they pleasing to thee, which are offered according to the law. ⁹ Then said I: Behold, I come to do thy will, O God: He taketh away the first, that he may establish that which followeth.
