¹³ If I have despised to abide judgment with my manservant, or my maidservant, when they had any controversy against me:

²⁰ He that striketh his bondman, or bondwoman, with a rod, and they die under his hands, shall be guilty of the crime. ²¹ But if the party remain alive a day or two, he shall not be subject to the punishment, because it is his money.

²⁶ If any man strike the eye of his manservant or maidservant, and leave them but one eye, he shall let them go free for the eye which he put out. ²⁷ Also if he strike out a tooth of his manservant or maidservant, he shall in like manner make them free.

⁴³ Afflict him not by might: but fear thy God.

⁴⁶ And by right of inheritance shall leave them to your posterity, and shall possess them for ever. But oppress not your brethren the children of Israel by might.

¹² When thy brother a Hebrew man, or Hebrew woman is sold to thee, and hath served thee six years, in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free: ¹³ And when thou sendest him out free, thou shalt not let him go away empty: ¹⁴ But shall give him for his way out of thy flocks, and out of thy barnfloor, and thy winepress, wherewith the Lord thy God shall bless thee. ¹⁵ Remember that thou also wast a bondservant in the land of Egypt, and the Lord thy God made thee free, and therefore I now command thee this.

¹⁴ Thou shalt not refuse the hire of the needy, and the poor, whether he be thy brother, or a stranger that dwelleth with thee in the land, and is within thy gates: ¹⁵ But thou shalt pay him the price of his labour the same day, before the going down of the sun, because he is poor, and with it maintaineth his life: lest he cry against thee to the Lord, and it be reputed to thee for a sin.

¹⁴ At the end of seven years, let ye go every man his brother being a Hebrew, who hath been sold to thee, so he shall serve thee six years: and thou shalt let him go free from thee: and your fathers did not hearken to me, nor did they incline their ear. ¹⁵ And you turned to day, and did that which was right in my eyes, in proclaiming liberty every one to his brother: and you made a covenant in my sight, in the house upon which my name is invocated. ¹⁶ And you are fallen back, and have defiled my name: and you have brought back again every man his manservant, and every man his maidservant, whom you had let go free, and set at liberty: and you have brought them into subjection to be your servants and handmaids. ¹⁷ Therefore thus saith the Lord: You have not hearkened to me, in proclaiming liberty every man to his brother and every man to his friend: behold I proclaim a liberty for you, saith the Lord, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine: and I will cause you to be removed to all the kingdoms of the earth.

⁹ And you, masters, do the same things to them, forbearing threatenings: knowing that the Lord both of them and you is in heaven. And there is no respect of persons with him.

¹ Masters, do to your servants that which is just and equal: knowing that you also have a master in heaven.
