⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite if through covetousness he take by violence, and God deliver not his soul?

¹³ Even so are the ways of all that forget God, an the hope of the hypocrite shall perish:

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall decay, and the way to escape shall fail them, and their hope the abomination of the soul.

¹⁶ And he shall be my saviour: for no hypocrite shall come before his presence.

³⁴ For the congregation of the hypocrite is barren, and fire shall devour their tabernacles, who love to take bribes.

⁵ That the praise of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment.

³ Is not destruction to the wicked, and aversion to them that work iniquity?

¹⁴ The sinners in Sion are afraid, trembling hath seized upon the hypocrites. Which of you can dwell with devouring fire? which of you shall dwell with everlasting burnings? ¹⁵ He that walketh in justices, and speaketh truth, that casteth away avarice by oppression, and shaketh his hands from all bribes, that stoppeth his ears lest he hear blood, and shutteth his eyes that he may see no evil.

²⁶ For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul?

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut the kingdom of heaven against men: for you yourselves do not enter in and those that are going in, you suffer not to enter.

³⁶ For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his soul? ³⁷ Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul:

²⁵ For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world and lose himself and cast away himself?

²⁰ But God said to him: Thou fool, this night do they require thy soul of thee. And whose shall those things be which thou hast provided? ²¹ So is he that layeth up treasure for himself and is not rich towards God.

⁹ For they that will become rich fall into temptation and into the snare of the devil and into many unprofitable and hurtful desires, which drown men into destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the desire of money is the root of all evils; which some coveting have erred from the faith and have entangled themselves in many sorrows.

¹ Go to now, ye rich men: weep and howl in your miseries, which shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted: and your garments are motheaten. ³ Your gold and silver is cankered: and the rust of them shall be for a testimony against you and shall eat your flesh like fire. You have stored up to yourselves wrath against the last days.
