²⁰ Let mercy forget him: may worms be his sweetness: let him be remembered no more, but be broken in pieces as an unfruitful tree.

⁷ A tree hath hope: if it be cut, it growth green again, and the boughs thereof sprout. ⁸ If its roots be old in the earth, and its stock be dead in the dust: ⁹ At the scent of water, it shall spring, and bring forth leaves, as when it was first planted. ¹⁰ But man when he shall be dead, and stripped and consumed, I pray you where is he?

¹⁴ I have said to rottenness: Thou art my father; to worms, my mother and my sister.

¹⁶ Let his roots be dried up beneath, and his harvest destroyed above. ¹⁷ Let the memory of him perish from the earth, and let not his name be renowned in the streets.

²⁶ And I shall be clothed again with my skin, and in my flesh I shall see my God.

⁷ The memory of the just is with praises: and the name of the wicked shall rot.

¹⁰ I saw the wicked buried: who also when they were yet living were in the holy place, and were praised in the city as men of just works: but this also is vanity.

¹⁴ Let not the dead live, let not the giants rise again: therefore hast visited and destroyed them, and hast destroyed all their memory.

^{14 (4:11)} He cried aloud, and said thus: Cut down the tree, and chop off the branches thereof: shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruits: let the beasts fly away that are under it, and the birds from its branches.

¹⁰ For now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that doth not yield good fruit, shall be cut down, and cast into the fire.
