¹⁹ Behold the voice of the daughter of my people from a far country: Is not the Lord in Sion, or is not her king in her? why then have they provoked me to wrath with their idols, and strange vanities?

¹⁶ They provoked him by strange gods, and stirred him up to anger, with their abominations. ¹⁷ They sacrificed to devils and not to God: to gods whom they knew not: that were newly come up, whom their fathers worshipped not. ¹⁸ Thou hast forsaken the God that begot thee, and hast forgotten the Lord that created thee. ¹⁹ The Lord saw, and was moved to wrath: because his own sons and daughters provoked him. ²⁰ And he said: I will hide my face from them, and will consider what their last end shall be: for it is a perverse generation, and unfaithful children. ²¹ They have provoked me with that which was no god, and have angered me with their vanities: and I will provoke them with that which is no people, and will vex them with a foolish nation.

²¹ Blessed be the Lord out of Sion, who dwelleth in Jerusalem.

¹⁰ The Lord shall reign for ever: thy God, O Sion, unto generation and generation.

² Let Israel rejoice in him that made him: and let the children of Sion be joyful in their king.

⁴ Woe to the sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a wicked seed, ungracious children: they have forsaken the Lord, they have blasphemed the Holy One of Israel, they are gone away backwards.

⁶ Rejoice, and praise, O thou habitation of Sion: for great is he that is in the midst of thee, the Holy One of Israel.

⁵ To them that come from a country afar off, from the end of heaven: the Lord and the instruments of his wrath, to destroy the whole land.

²² For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king: he will save us.

³ Then Isaias the prophet came to king Ezechias, and said to him: What said these men, and from whence came they to thee? And Ezechias said: From a far country they came to me, from Babylon.

¹ Arise, arise, put on thy strength, O Sion, put on the garments of thy glory, O Jerusalem, the city of the Holy One: for henceforth the uncircumcised, and unclean shall no more pass through thee.

¹⁶ Say ye to the nations: Behold it is heard in Jerusalem, that guards are coming from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Juda. ¹⁷ They are set round about her, as keepers of fields: because she hath provoked me to wrath, saith the Lord.

³⁰ But when thou art spoiled what wilt thou do? though thou clothest thyself with scarlet, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, and paintest thy eyes with stibic stone, thou shalt dress thyself out in vain: thy lovers have despised thee, they will seek thy life. ³¹ For I have heard the voice as of a woman in travail, anguishes as of a woman in labour of a child. The voice of the daughter of Sion, dying away, spreading her hands: Woe is me, for my soul hath fainted because of them that are slain.

⁵ Why then is this people in Jerusalem turned away with a stubborn revolting? they have laid hold on lying, and have refused to return. ⁶ I attended, and hearkened; no man speaketh what is good, there is none that doth penance for his sin, saying: What have I done? They are all turned to their own course, as a horse rushing to the battle.

¹⁶ And I will scatter them among the nations, which they and their fathers have not known: and I will send the sword after them till they be consumed.

¹⁹ Hast thou utterly cast away Juda, or hath thy soul abhorred Sion? why then hast thou struck us, so that there is no healing for us? we have looked for peace, and there is no good: and for the time of healing, and behold trouble.

⁶ For there shall be a day, in which the watchmen on mount Ephraim, shall cry: Arise, and let us go up to Sion to the Lord our God.

³² And it shall come to pass, that every one that shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved: for in Mount Sion, and in Jerusalem shall be salvation, as the Lord hath said, and in the residue whom the Lord shall call.

²¹ And I will cleanse their blood, which I had not cleansed: and the Lord will dwell in Sion.

¹⁷ And in mount Sion shall be salvation, and it shall be holy, and the house of Jacob shall possess those that possessed them.
